My Uncle Dan is straight out of a movie. The most Italian man you could ever think of. Straight out…read moreof the Goodfellas, thick accent, wife beater, gold chains, etc. He has more money from his construction business than he knows what to do with. He's in his twilight years of working so these days he mostly spends his time making his own red wine from scratch, hunting turkeys, and growing vegetables in his garden. He clears the vibe check. I'm yapping now, but all this to say he picked Il Gatto E La Volpe for dinner so I knew this food was gonna SMACK. We started with margherita pizzas for the table, arrancini, calamari, and a couple bottles of red wine picked by Uncle Dan. My Mom got the gnocchi bolognese, which I knew I would get 80% of as she eats like a mouse, so I went with the Florentine steak. I hate to be corny and say "everything was sensational," but everything was sensational so Imma leave it at that. My favorites were the gnocchi bolognese and arrancini though, as I had never seen gnocchi bolognese on a menu. It honestly should be a more common dish. I'm making a prediction that by 2029, gnocchi bolognese will be a standard item on all Italian menus. Service was great, vibes were up, and this was just a great place to enjoy some much needed family time over some red wine. These haters got me stressed. SHOUTOUT TO UNCLE DAN! They had a high top bar and a few tables outside but seating is limited and I think they mostly do takeout. We got the Americano pizza which tasted great. Has small pepperonis, good amount of cheese and a nice chew to the crust. There was a slice or two that had a bit of a burnt crust. The second pizza we got was the spicy Nduja sausage with mushrooms and a sesame crust. It tasted good but I didn't find any sausage if there was some. Would probably not recommend ordering that. They mixed up our order as well and got the small mixed up with the large and had to recook them. So we waited another 10 to 15 mins. Kids liked the Ferrero Tiramisu but I thought it was just okay. Needed more Ferrero and hazelnut flavor imo. The garlic sauce was good as well. Would come back to try some of the other unique flavors like pistachio despite the issues. Hopefully they were just a one off thing.

Worth the hype for affordable slices…read more Red Swan Pizza delivers in green pizza boxes. We were nearby after an appointment and decided to give them a try based on the positive reviews. First thing we noticed were the current pickup deals plastered on the window including $4.95 for 8" and $13.95 for 14"with any 2 toppings each. The 8" was well-sized for one, while the 14" was enough to feed a small family. We were really impressed with this pair of pizzas which were ready within 10 minutes. From among the over 40 pizza options, we went with honey garlic chicken with pineapple, and BBQ chicken with green pepper. Both were delicious especially in the light tomato sauce and even cheese layer, finished with an aromatic sesame seed crust which surprisingly came included at these prices. This small pizza chain across Canada seems to have consistently good reviews. The free sesame seed pizza crust is great. Plus they have other creative toppings like donair beef, butter chicken and alfredo chicken with accompanying sauces. Skip it or hit it? We'll be back for another pleasant bite. There are even deals for repeat customers.

Yet another Italian restaurant going with the whole mafia theme, as suggested by their name,…read moreGoodfellas. They do tout themselves on their wood oven pizza, so naturally we got a magherita pizza. The portion was quite decent and the pizza was passable if not just average. I really liked the cheese they used. It was a bit savoury and had a rich dairy taste. I really wish their tomato sauce had more acidity and was less salty so that it can balance out the cheese. The dough however was slightly too chewy for my liking and the centre is a bit undercooked. When you try to pick up the slice, gravity starts to do its work and half the slice sags and the cheese topping goes down with it. I was not a fan of the tagliatelle con ragu. I thought I had ordered a pasta with veal in it, but it came across as a vegetarian pasta. I actually tasted a tiny bit of meat in my second last bite. If you are charging $26 for a pasta, please don't be a scrooge with the ingredients. But, what's not acceptable was the fact that the tagliatelle was overcooked while there were a few strands that were undercooked. We did dine in at an odd hour at 4:00pm, but service was definitely a bit slow. It really took the server awhile to acknowledge us and it was only then that she tapped us up with water. Perhaps, this is a bad location? Or we went at a bad time on a bad day? Nonetheless, it was not satisfactory experience.

We finally decided on this spot, which used to be located in a different plaza with a completely different vibe. The minute we step in, we're greeted kindly by the hostess, and wow the place was gorgeous. It's really warm and cozy, but also has an elegant feel to it. Right by the front door, there's lots of gelato which caught my attention. Our waitress was an absolute sweetheart, she was so kind, attentive, and we actually had a conversation with her about their older location. She was such a kind lady, I can tell she truly values her customers. I ordered gnocchi bolognese with an aperol spritz, while my friend ordered a short rib pasta and a hugo spritz. Our meals were super delicious, creamy and full of flavour. They definitely satisfied our hunger. The waitress added cheese on top of our pasta, which made it 10x better! The drinks were a nice touch. We also shared cinnamon sticks which came with chocolate, strawberry and caramel sauce. The portion was huge!! I loved this place so much, from the tasty dishes, to the amazing staff and gorgeous interior. I highly recommend this spot to anyone searching for authentic italian food!

Seeing as my husband has a gluten sensitivity. I noticed on their menu they did have gluten-free options for pasta so it helped with our decision. He didn't have any reaction when we had the pizza at Penelope's, so I wasn't too worried about it having it here. I made reservations for Wednesday night and it wasn't too busy (also it was a little bit earlier we went).Client service was fantastic. No complaints. Seeing is that it's the first time we've been there. We tried lots of different things pizza, meatballs, pasta, short ribs, and of course a dessert - all in all great flavors. We made no substitution with the pasta and it just seems that my husband again with the sensitivity, didn't have any reaction to anything. We had so much leftovers and it was honestly so delicious to eat at the next day. Best believe we definitely will be coming back.
