One word: Poppadoms…read more Not what you would expect from a chinese restaurant, but amazing poppadoms. The best poppadoms I've ever had anyway. I think it may be testament to the quality and cleanliness of the oil in their fryer. But really good poppadoms. And, here's the best bit, they're free! I know! Free poppadoms! Unfortunately only if you spend over £10, but then who manages to order a chinese meal without it being that much. Now, this is a traditional British Chinese takeaway. You know, the really heavy, gloopy, greasy, salty loveliness that is a good Friday night chinese takeaway. The sort you eat til you burst. And bursting is a real possibility when you see the portion sizes! I always try and fool myself and say that I'll just get Singapore Noodles, cos its smaller than a meal and separate noodles. And then it arrives (they deliver) in a double size container! Although I like to 'forget' this the next time. The prawn toasts are amazing as well. Whole slices of white bread, deep fried and really good and hot prawny filling. Mmmmmm. If you want a feed, you want it delivered and you don't want to move afterwards (and a partial to left over chinese for breakfast, look em up and give em a call. Oh, did I mention the poppadoms?

I eat way more than I should do and it still feeds me for two days, even when I only order two dishes. The noodles are some of the best I've ever had, the chips are great, the meat is always tender, and if you order over £10 or £20, you get free poppadoms or prawn crackers respectively. Their menu is huge and they have a wide variety of vegetarian meals. They're also great with fussy eaters, happy to take out any ingredients you don't, or can't eat. They deliver to nearly everywhere in Cardiff and I've never waited more than 45 minutes for an order. And their food comes in those nice plastic tubs rather than tin trays, keeping it nice and warm while you're eating, and ideal for putting in the fridge to eat the next day.

Super Chinese Takeaway is a reasonably unremarkable Cantonese style Chinese takeaway situated on…read morethe beleaguered Clifton Street where Roath meets Splott. That's not to say that it isn't good, it's just that there's nothing out of the ordinary about it. And, in a lot of respects, this is a good thing! It means that it's consistent, and so it can be relied upon to make your time-honoured favourites just how you like them. They have a fair sized menu, and so there's something for everyone. I can't remember quite how much they charge for delivery, but it's something like £1.00 to £1.50, and the area that they cover is reasonably broad. If you spend around the £20.00 mark it's well worth asking them to knock the delivery charge off, or to throw in some prawn crackers, or a free starter... the harder you haggle, the more likely they are to oblige. Collections are tricky these days if you are calling in to collect, especially if you are driving from the direction of Splott. The new one way system that the council implemented about a year ago is wreaking all kinds of havoc in the area! They also offer a selection of Thai dishes which are worth trying.

Also, and I regard this as genuinely helpful, the delivery driver is absolutely wonderful to deal with. Polite, prompt, happy to say hello and ask how we are. The food was amazing and our group got bigger each time, which further confirms how good the food is. My mouth still waters when I remember a prawn and chicken dish that was so delicious and aromatic.... i couldn't stop eating it. Although I have been living in the US for the last 27 years, I still have fond memories of Swallows. Besides the food, the owner became good friends of ours over the 3-4 years that I lived in Cardiff. From the start he was kind and courteous, always offering us some free desserts and so appreciative of earning our frequent business. He knew we were students, living on a limited budget, and would always give us some extra food. It left a lasting impression, that goes beyond serving great food. I am sorry to hear about Sir's health and hope you are doing better. I will visit Cardiff this year and hope to meet you again after so many years. You might not remember me by my name, but you will if we have a chance to meet again face to face. I would like to meet you and in some way show my appreciation for all those years when you went above and beyond just serving us food. Best, Deepak PS - I highly recommend it to everyone. I would like to come back here again and again.

Slightly at the high price range than most of the other Chinese establishments in the area. Easily the best Chinese restaurant on city road you'd be mad not to give it a go. The service is spot on and the food has never been less than fantastic, its small wonder they haven't taken over other Chinese places to improve the general trend. I recommend chicken battered balls with sweet & sour, beef because it's so tender and the duck in rolls, yummy. You cannot go wrong with this place.

DISCLAIMER: I've only ever ordered from Albany Fish Bar off Deliveroo - I haven't actually physically been in the shop myself so cannot speak on customer service or anything like that CHIPS: The only thing that saves this place from 1 star. Their chips are actually pretty decent. Not the best I have but well-cooked. I probably would be satisfied if I only ever order chips from Albany. FISH: Just awful. They leave the skin on, which normally isn't a huge issue but the skin is not crispy and is just a soggy mess. I have to dissect my fish and remove the skin otherwise you get a mouthful of squidge. So if you like non-crispy fish skin, maybe that's for you. However... *BONE WARNING BONE WARNING BONE WARNING* I've ordered from Albany Fish Bar several times (I know, I never seem to learn my lesson) and EVERY SINGLE TIME the fish has been riddled with bones. I spend more time picking tiny bones out of my teeth than actually enjoying my meal. The only reason why I've ordered from them more than once is because if you're doing delivery, there are very limited options depending on time of day. I always end up thinking "Maybe I just got unlucky" but with the fish being consistently awful I can't do it anymore. If I have a craving for fish and chips, I'd rather eat canned soup than the fish from Albany's at this point. --- Overall, come here for everything else but fish.

As far as I can tell, Mc Doner's is in no way special, but it does seem to open its doors a little earlier than most of the others. Offering the usual fayre in terms of fried chicken, kebabs, burgers, pizza and fish and chips etc, and charging 30 pence for a dollop of mayonnaise, it is however a little more pricey than some of the others, once you've added up all of the different costs applicable. It is also a little bit bigger than the majority of other fast food outlets on this strip, and is always clean and well presented. I've not tried the fish and chips, or the chicken curry and chips, (which is cheap at £4.20), but their pizza is good. Prices start at £4.50 for a Margarita, (which they spell Margherita. I believe that this is the correct spelling, or at least the most authentic.. so may be they're not so linguistically challenged?). Another thing puzzles me though... If the guys at Mc Doner's aren't so good at speaking English, who came up with the idea for the name? Surely it wasn't some happy accident that it appears to be a play on words that alludes to another fast food outlet with a global presence? Has someone been pulling my leg?
