The greeter/waiter in a blue "I love Don Beni" sweatshirt could have cared less that we arrived. He was programmed in his comments, did not listen and made us feel a burden to be there. He left our drinks sitting at the bar for 10 minutes (we were the only ones there) then clunked them on the table and when I commented I would like ice for my drink and a tap water, he walked away. I got up and asked for ice and a pitcher of water after some time. When we ordered pizza as a starter, he did place the order. I then politely asked for the baked aubergine dish and he said, that will take 25 minutes and discouraged me to order it. Wanting to get up in leave, we stayed. I then ordered the aubergine dish regardless of his remarks and he then placed our pizza order as the starter and took my husbands order. After we finished the main, we were going to have dessert and coffee but no one came back so we paid up and left. We are very social people and were expecting to take guests there. We will not return nor recommend them. The food was good but we were truly disheartened by the treatment.

I was requested by the owner, Adriano, to send the money to a bank account but, unbeknownst to me, the funds were refunded a few days later. Meanwhile, my mother showed with 3 friends and a copy of the gift certificate, which I had forwarded to her. She said that as soon as Adriano saw the certificate, he gave her a big welcome hug (she had never been there before). He never mentioned a word to her or to those who accompanied her that it wasn't valid, but simply deducted the amount from the final bill. When checking in with her the next day, she said that the service was incredible, the food delicious (they ordered sea bass, raviolis and pizza) and the atmosphere fabulous. Adriano contacted me and told me that the funds hadn't gone through but he didn't want to embarrass my mother, especially in front of her friends - What a absolutely top-notch gentleman!!! Fortunately, we finally figured out how to make the payment go through. I never Yelp, but people like Adriano are few and far between and should be given the recognition they deserve!! Thank you so much for making my Mother's birthday a truly special one. I shall definitely be eating at your fine establishment every time I visit the UK!

Many thanks to Discerning 1, whose review prompted me to track this place down. :-))…read more We checked it out last Sunday for the £25 per nose lunch package: a good way of testing an establishment. Very impressed, as was la contessa. Four-course menu with a choice from 4 dishes for the first three thereof. The dishes were not these, which I think is just a sample. http://www.campagna.caldesi.com/page.php?intPageID=44 I had: Crab and avocado. A sort of overlarge fishcake that was stuck together with olive oil and subtly seasoned. Squid ink noodles with clams (squid ink pasta is great). *Calves liver with spinach. Melts in the mouth. All absolutely scrumptiliously delightful and the portions were not over-large, as they can often be in Italy. More 'nouvelle cuisine' size. The pudding course was a set mixture of 'bits and pieces'. I don't have a much of a sweet tooth and I have usually pigged out by then anyway, but this little collection was desperately pleasing upon the eye and the palate. The wines were reasonably priced for a place like that. £25 for a bottle of Chianti Classico, although it didn't fire me up like the one I had at the 'Old Devil Inn' for £18. (see separate review) I thought that the decor was a bit bland, but I tend to ogle plates rather than fellow diners or wallpaper. The staff were attentive and charming. Now I look forward to the autumn: Tuscans do some rather interesting game dishes.

This is a fabulous family Italian restaurant in Burnham…read more It opened around six months ago, and has around 30 tables. But already it is worth booking, because it has already become so popular. And here's why. The food is fantastic. The menu is wide, including all the normal Italian dishes you would expect from a good Italian restaurant, such as a variety of pasta, pizza, meat, and a couple of fish dishes. The pizza is home made from scratch and cooked in a wood fired pizza oven. Made with fresh ingredients, both kids and adults love them. The pasta is also home made, with a good range of sauces, such as bolognaise, seafood and penne arrabiate. If you like lasagne, they make one of the nicest I have ever had. Huge portion and so delicious. Tonight, we started with octopus and aubergine. The octopus came with a tomato sauce, on a bed of curried mashed potatoes. The aubergine was baked in a cheese sauce. For the main course, we had steak with a pepper sauce and vegetables, served in an attract wooden slab. And a chicken baked on a creamy gorgonzola sauce. Although we did not ask for it, the restaurant thought roast potatoes would be nice with the meal, so they brought us a portion on the house. We finished off with sticky toffee pudding. Unusually, not too heavy, coming with ice cream and cinnamon sugar, a great way to end. The food was perfectly cooked, and tasted exquisite. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. We went earlyish, so there were plenty of kids. The brought a very happy feel to the place. The staff were completely comfortable with it all. In fact, the restaurant is a place that seems laid back with just about anything. You can wear what you like, go for an intimate meal or go with a party of friends. The staff are always welcoming and friendly. The service was attentive without being overbearing, and warm. We have been a number of times. The meal generally costs between £30-£70 for two. Tonight, the meal cist £71 include bottle of Montpulcianno wine. Thoroughly recommended. If you go, you are in for a treat, with or without kids, alone or in a party. But you would be wise to book if you want to be sure you will not have to wait for a table.

The restaurant is in a period converted house, which once belonged to the family who owned number 6 (where the restaurant is situated) and the imposing building at the end of Rose street (I remember visiting the daughter in a past life here but we'll move on) It's intimate & warm and has a great feel at the front whilst there is a less intimate but larger area at the back principally used for groups. The Italian staff offer a genuine warm welcome and repeat visits make you feel part of the family! The menu is well balanced with a broad selection of Italian standards. The crab and cod ravioli with the saffron sauce is superb whilst the crab salad is a fresh triumph of a dish. Mains are equally accomplished, the fillet steak with fois gras delivers big bold flavours and Turbot is a another favourite of mine. The wine list which is exclusively Italian, offers a wonderful selection, the Russiz Pinot on my last visit was outstanding. Service is performed with aplomb, and it is performed, this place has a heart beat a rhythm and there is a pride taken in executing every task. Deserts are equally polished the Tiramisu is a rich sticky delight and the home made chocolate cake is to die for. All in all the food service and atmosphere are all top drawer. So to the trifling, grubby part, the bill. . it's not cheap, it's squarely in the top end of the range, but then so it should be, so it deserves to be. You'll leave lighter of cash but richer in spirit and bloody well fed!
