Piccolino's is one of the better Italian restaurant chains in the country (I'm thinking it…read moresurpasses Bella Italia for sure), and having tried the restaurants in Liverpool and Leeds city centre I decided to try Ilkley's own Piccolino. A relatively new edition to Ilkley's restaurant scene (it used to be a pub/bar/eatery called Johnson's) it is in a building which gives quality views over the moors - I know this from when it was Johnsons, unfortunately I couldn't get a seat by the window this time. And it was lunchtime! Yes, it was very busy at lunchtime, but that's because it's very, very good, especially if you regard Italian food in the same way I do - i.e., the best cuisine in the world. The pastas and more adventurous dishes all sounded great but knowing my Piccolino's, I went for a garlic bread pizza followed by another pizza (pollo) for my main. Their pizzas truly are some of the best you can get, and, other than Salvo's in Headingley, I can't think of anywhere I'd rather have on than at a Piccolino's. Little pricey though.

Well when a stomach talks to you, you either have to check into those padded walled rooms or listen to it. I went for the latter and some cheese action at Piccolino. With my best fake (and rather foolish) Italian accent I head on down. I love this venue. Not too far from those beautiful rolling hills and famous moors, it's in Ikley and it is Italian food served the real way. We're talking woodstone ovens here. It's nice to start with some traditional antipasta and then I move on to the pizza baby. It's all about the pizza and for me the goats cheese one is out of this world. Great bit of cheese action if I say so myself. There are plenty of other options too from fish to meats and it's just how an Italian should be. Simple yet delicious. Try save some room for the array of sweet delights and I'm always partial to a nice coffee served with the hard stuff after. Good service, great venue and as to be expected cracking wine list. It's not cheap but it's not the worst either. Plenty to sing about here in a good Italian operatic tone (or lack of).

Well what a find and totally by accident, only been open in its new location for 3 months. I cant praise this place enough, the staff and owners were very friendly and very helpful and for the Pizza Oh my Word! amazing ! Pasta was also fab, all made using the freshest ingredients. They also had 10oz fillet steak on which we are told is excellent so may try one next time, they had a good fish selection on as well. Stuzzi is a too-good-to-be-true trifecta of wonderful food, excellent service, and reasonable pricing. The menu is small sharing plates, as many places are these days. With a group of four we got to have quite a lot of that menu. The tagliatelle in ox cheek ragu was a marvel of simplicity. The arancini completely changed my mind about a dish I've always considered an overrated way for a restaurant to dispose of extra risotto. The wine and cheese were superb, chosen for us by the charming wait staff. The digestif menu features a small but punchy selection of grappas -- never a given at British Italian restaurants and always appreciated by me.

They also have a nice selection of Italian deli bits and bobs for you to take away with you. We found some of the charcuterie and cheese impossible to resist. The idea is to order a few tapas sized portions of various dishes and then mix and match with your eating partners - and it works a treat. Not quite full? Order something else - the kitchen is efficient and we have never waited too long. Now that we are semi-regulars the staff have got to know us to some extent. I am very much into my wine and I take some care when ordering a bottle any place I go. At Stuzzi when they ask me what I want to drink I now just ask them to 'bring me something interesting' and that is exactly what they do. They have never let me down. Every time the wine that arrives at the table is well selected - delicious and not unreasonably priced. This is a restaurant that wants people to enjoy the wines on offer so the prices are sensible - in so many places these days the price of a decent bottle is ridiculous, but here you will find the opposite. If you want fine dining and silver service that's not what this place is about. It's too laid back for that and it's now what they set out to do. Just been for my husbands birthday meal tonight. What a huge disappointment, he ordered plaice with…read morea cheese type sauce. The meal was virtually untouched it was not plaice, and the sauce completely took over the dish leaving a greasy feel in the mouth. We were also seated by the door to be jostled by staff, taxi drivers collecting take-aways, customers, etc. The lady taking the order was unprofessional and extremely loud.
