Buongiorno E Buonasera - Italian Breakfast & not only

Review for summer 2019:…read more You know that feeling of exhaustion from heat, endless walking, dodging too many tourists and you just want a piece of heaven... well, you can find it here! We had our sites on another eatery, however thankfully for us we found this gem instead! Do not expect aircon inside, however you will be greeted with friendly staff, pleasant tasting food and plenty of tables inside and out to dine. Cuisine took me back to some places I visited in Italy, and the staff's Italian between one another I think also influenced my experience! Their pizza is FAN-tis-tico!

Summer in Oxford feels like summer at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco -- tourist-ridden. While…read morerestaurants on the high street offered refuge from the crowds (and the unusual UK heat wave), I was craving something a bit more unique to Oxford. Alas, there's a location in London as well. But this cozy, homey pizza restaurant certainly stood out from the dozens of chain restaurants that we had walked past earlier. The restaurant's interior, with tasteful splashes of color, feels a bit like an Italian grandmother's kitchen -- imagine shelves full of pasta boxes. After an early morning visit to the Ashmolean Museum, we got there shortly after 12:30 p.m., which means that we had just missed the lunch rush. I doubt it would have been a problem had we decided to dine earlier, as there are plenty of tables in the restaurant. The pizzas are rectangular and come in both whole and half versions. (Buongiorno E Buonasera encourages you to order the latter so you can share.) There's a sign somewhere in the restaurant that derides untraditional pizza -- I can't remember what pizza blasphemy it cites, but pineapple on pizza, chicken on pizza... you know the drill. As I don't eat red meat (part of me wished that they served a pizza with chicken, but c'est la vie...), I mentally prepared myself to order a margherita pizza. Which, you know, is delicious in its own right, but I wanted something a bit more daring. I shouldn't have worried. Still authentic, the vivace pizza checked all of my boxes: tomato sauce, mozzarella, peppers, chili, and basil. An extremely filling lunch for less than £10!

The deliver unitl late and the pizzas that they do show up with have, in my experience, but not only tasty but hot AND on time! Pizza is a pretty straight forward thing to have locally, but this has the added bonus of being able to both order and pay for online so no more scrabbling about and looking for change to make up the order total or having to remember to go to the ATM on the way home. Sounds silly, but makes a big diference at the end of the night to have something be so easy! Quite a large choice of toppings, drinks and side orders etc to pick from so should keep every one happy! Happy munching people!

(I suppose to be fair that when you're a takeaway only, you don't need much room!) You can either call up for home delivery or collection, or you can go into the shop and place your order there and then. You do have to sit in the 'waiting area' though which is a bit of a downside because in the winter it's absolutely freezing as there is a constant flow of customers coming in through the door! The pizzas are reasonable value, although probably not as cheap as the likes of Pizza Hut (nearest one is Aylesbury). There is usually some sort of meal deal on offer as well so you could strike lucky and get a bit of a bargain.

Else, you can also order pick-up via their app. With the app, you just pay in-app, choose pick-up time and location (Summertown or Jericho), then just show them your confirmation number when you get there. Pizza is not bad. Each is thin and light enough that even a person with a light appetite can finish one whole by themself. Pasta dishes are more generously portioned. I found the margherita has way too much sauce and tomatoes, which make everything but the outer edge a soggy mess since the crust is super thin. With less sauce-heavy pizzas, however, the crust is more like a thin cracker. I prefer the prosciutto cotto e funghi. If you crave a more bread-y and robust crust, and perhaps more value for money, there are other places to try. Overall, good place for artisanal pizza. Staff was so-so. Maybe it was my bad luck, but when I visited, there were 4 waiters standing around, more two of who saw us walk up and wait by the "Wait to be Seated." Rather greet us and acknowledge us by telling us someone would be by to help us, they just each walked by and stared, then clustered around one another, including the one who would eventually come out to help us. There were only about 5 tables total when I went, and clearly the staff weren't overwhelmed if they were all gathered around one another just looking around.
