Ranked as the 6th best burger in the world by Food and Wine magazine in 2024 ("Organic beef…read morecheeseburger with onions, pickles, and a house Gasoline Sauce. $16 "), the Gasoline Grill hamburger restaurant has multiple locations throughout Denmark. It's one of those things where I was glad I stopped by, but didn't really experience anything with the food or ambiance that would make me recommend this as a out-of-the way stop that the ranking would seem to suggest. This one is the original, using the station building as a walk-up window with the kitchen inside. They have a few picnic tables on the side for outdoor dining, and I do think that it's important to eat the burger as soon as possible. The interesting thing is that it is still a working gas station, with an island with multiple pumps dispensing petrol (which I didn't see being used during my wait) and some electric charging stations (which was actively being used). I was able to place my order (nothing customized, just wanted exactly as they described after about a 10 minute wait, got my lemonade right away, and waited another 10 minutes to get my food (everything is made-to-order). The cheeseburger was 110 DKK, fries was 40, lemonade was 35, and dipping sauce was 10 with 10 off for being a combo. So total was 185 DKK (about $28.88 in USD). The process and food reminded me very much of a Shake Shack, with the young workers working together to produce well-made smashburgers using great ingredients. The color scheme reminds me of a Wingstop, though. I squeezed between a couple of single diners and dug in. The burger was good, with that loose smash burger quality. It came with a mayo based thousand island like sauce (their gasoline sauce), and had tomato, pickles, red onion slices, and a gooey, plentiful cheese. The lemonade was good, and the hint of elderflower made it memorable. The crinkle fries were good, well done fried which I appreciate. Ate the meal fast before my hands started to freeze up, tossed the remains in the gas station islands garbage bin and was on my way. I really do think a food like this is all about where you eat it...if on an airplane, or at a ballpark, or at the beach...yeah, I could see the appeal. But at a gas station in freezing weather on a picnic table...not so much.

This place completely hit the spot. The burger was everything you want; juicy, flavorful, and…read moreperfectly cooked, with just the right balance of toppings that didn't overwhelm the meat. The bun held up beautifully without getting soggy, and the fries on the side were crispy and golden. You can tell they really care about quality ingredients here. The ambiance was great too; casual and relaxed but still with a cool vibe that makes it feel like more than just a quick stop. It's the kind of spot where you can hang out with friends, enjoy good food, and not feel rushed. Service was excellent. The staff was friendly, quick with recommendations, and checked in at just the right times without hovering. Everything came out promptly, and you could see they genuinely wanted customers to have a good experience.

The burgers are perfectly cooked, and the crisp vegetables and pillowy bun make everything even better! There is a nice variety of canned beverages, including beer, and we stuck with soda. The employees are friendly and definitely proud of their work, as they should be. Be forewarned that, at least at this location, there are no places to sit, and there is just a counter to stand and eat at. We were on the move and figured we'd just eat there. Even if you take it to a hotel room, you might stink it up for a while! Therefore, standing and eating isn't the worst plan, especially when it's this food. (Time to drool like Homer Simpson.) My husband randomly brings this up when someone mentions burgers, he sees one in a commercial, etc. This restaurant sets the standard for burgers anywhere in the world. I am very glad I did some nerdy research and pointed him toward it, because we both are so glad we went :')

The cheeseburger we had was very tasty, and we also tried the French fries with their herb dip, which was a delicious addition. One thing to keep in mind is that it's fairly common at some places in Copenhagen to charge extra for condiments such as ketchup, mustard, and dipping sauces. Overall, the burger was excellent, but I personally still prefer POPL, the burger restaurant from the team behind Noma.

I think if we had gone to the original location of Gasoline Grill (the converted gas station), it may have been a cooler experience, but this location was closer to us than the other. Broens is a courtyard with several different eateries inside, like pasta, Greek food, and crepes, but our group had our eyes set on one thing - Gasoline Grill. Even though we weren't at the original gas station location, the branding was still on point. Just the simple green with big block letters, just like the OG location. The line was super long and Broens was very busy when we went. So it just made sense for us all to go to the same place and not wait in multiple lines. The staff was very efficient with how busy everything was, but the wait time to get the food after you ordered was quite a long time. We each just got the burger and either a frozen lemonade or shake. That was how their menu worked. Either a cheeseburger by itself, or with a shake or lemonade for 30-50kr more. The shakes and frozen lemonades were great. Not overly sweet, as was everything in Denmark that isn't overly sweet as it is in the U.S. So they were perfect with the burgers, as anything sweeter might clash with a burger flavor. Now on to the burgers, the supposed star of the show - they were a bit of a letdown. We had wildly different cooks on our burgers. Some were pretty burned and some were even almost completely raw still. They did have a vegetarian option, which was great as one of our traveling friends with us is a vegetarian. However, he said it also wasn't one of the best veggie burgers he's ever had. Translation: he hated it. He is just too nice to say that outright. I'd say if you're wanting to try the world famous Gasoline Grill - go to the original location so you get the atmosphere of the cool repurposed gas station, and maybe the food is a little better at their original location, too.

This wasn't worth it.
