Welcoming Environment!…read more After many years of painful and non beneficial physical therapy and countless therapists at various facilities, I was referred to Mattew Mailloux, DPT, CMTPT at Pivot PT - Mechanicsville, VA. Finally a specialist with a knowledge base of Ehlers-Danlos and an understanding of the challenges a Zebra faces. From day one, Matt listened to my concerns and discussed the treatment plan which was tailored to my care, taking into account my complex medical conditions. I felt heard, I felt validated, I was encouraged and clear communication which provided confidence along my healing journey. Not only is Matt an exceptional physical therapist with a passion and desire to learn and grow in his profession, he provides outstanding quality of care and a passion and willingness to initiate and walk alongside fellow therapists to aid in clarity and understanding of a Zebra-Map (complexity of intertwined symptoms and conditions overlapping like a typography map). Patients get the initial evaluation in one of two private rooms, but after that, patients are lined up on one of eight(?) different tables and treated in the open. So, be prepared to have several new friends who know ALL of your medical business, add their two cents to your conversations, and just straight up hijack your therapist while they are working on you. It felt pretty much like group therapy. I wasn't a fan of being scheduled for whatever therapist was available, as I had to repeat answers to questions and it didn't feel cohesive, so I preferred scheduling with the same therapist. Katrina was great. She listened and took her time and I feel she really tried her best with the tools and options she had available to help me get better. I also wasn't a fan of spending 75% of the 1-2 hours I was there having assistants watch me do the prescribed at home exercises and getting heat and/or ice. I can do all of that at home. But for the 15-30 minutes of manual manipulation, the appointment was completely worth the visit. I'm glad I explored the option. Billing with Aetna was a mess, as they contract a third-party, who takes what PPT submits and combines it into a different code, so the Explanation of Benefits "Total You May Owe" does NOT agree with the bill I actually received in the mail. Fortunately, the EOB said I owed more than Pivot billed. The bill arrived almost two months after service. Also, Pivot doesn't offer online payments and getting the billing department on the phone wasn't fun. And to top it off, when I did get them on the phone, their credit card service was down and they couldn't accept payments. {sigh} IMHO, I don't have much experience with PT, especially in this area, so I don't know where this lands on the standard scale of PT available, but I wasn't impressed.

The therapists they have working there are excellent, however anyone else you interact with there will not be. You can look forward to a jammed place with clearly overworked therapists who are doing their best, but the systems around them have failed. You can expect bills months after you've stopped that they can't justify and a business owner who truly doesn't bother listening versus hearing his own voice. Be better.

I wasted three weeks trying to get seen by a professional PT. I am so grateful for my friend, Lynn, who steered me toward PT Solutions in Mechanicsville, VA. Professionalism amoung all staff is exceptional. I like the personal care and kind attention from all staff--from Allen, the owner on down. Allision if great and today I got to 113 degrees bending my knee. I'm told many PT's left during Covid is the reason for staffing issues. PT Solutions has figured it out. This is unacceptable in health care. I hope their other "standards" are better. If we as patients are unable to get in touch with them, why should I set up any appointments with them? I was sent to Sheltering Arms due to Migraines, and very severe Vertigo. What I found out, thanks…read moreto my very attentive and caring Therapist was so much more. Were it not for her caring and in depth knowledge, I would have just slipped through the medical cracks; as I have for so very many years, and continued to have the trouble I had. My Therapist figured out that the crystals in my ears were severely spread out through multiple passages in my ear canals. Once she fixed those (which took weeks) she discovered huge problems with my balance. Through her patience and testing, I've not only improved, but I have no more Vertigo! This is all she does, this Therapist deals with Migraine and Vertigo, nothing else. I have been (and continue to go) going for over 2 months now, I am able to walk without stumbling, or bumping into walls. My Therapist found out that the 2 nerves in each ear were devastated, due to a medicine I was given back in 2012 to save my life. Sometimes the cure comes at a price, that price was my balance. Thanks to her, I will be seeing specialists regarding my ears and my Migraines. My Therapist also evaluated the 3 types of balance that we all have; eyes, legs, and inner ears. All three of mine have been affected in one way or another, however my eyesight balance has made substantial improvement as well as my leg balance. I am truly grateful to all of the friendly and helpful staff at Sheltering Arms. They are kind and caring people, who give to people like me, far more than they realize. I am never tasked with anything that is beyond my reach, and it is a safe environment to get stronger. My Therapist is cognizant of all of my limitations both there and at home, and she has made me feel comfortable and safe telling her anything regarding my health. She truly has gone the extra mile for me, as far as her knowledge, and her innovations to my therapy program. I would recommend this facility to ANYONE! I would recommend my Therapist to people suffering with Vertigo. She doesn't work miracles, you have to do the work, however she does help and works very hard to make you feel respected, and treated with dignity as a whole person not as a condition.

I was referred to Ortho Virginia at the Boulders Parkway location by my PCP. After the appointment,…read moreI informed my PCP's office to never send me there again. Dr. Miller had no interest in viewing the MRI that I had done for the visit, telling me "I don't need to see that'. He exited the room and left me waiting for 10 minutes. I had to look for someone to explain to me what was going on. I was told by the initial attending nurse that Dr. Miller was "organizing" xrays. I informed her that I already had xrays done at the hospital. The xray tech came in next and ushered me into the xray room. I went back to the consult room. Dr Miller re-entered the room, complaining about "their system being slow". This is a multi million dollar, private equity ortho clinic and your system is slow? He then gave me a cortisone shot and walked out. Everything about this place is unprofessional. Dr. Miller is way past his retirement date.
