This review is for the Krystal Medical Associates located in Office U-3 at this complex. I had a…read morenegative experience at this office yesterday (6/29/10). First, this review should be prefaced with my personal background. I am originally from suburban Minneapolis and lived in Wisconsin for the 5 years preceding moving to the DC area in summer 2009. With that said, this is not the medical experience I am used to. They were able to make an appointment for me for a physical exam within a week and I showed up on time at 9am. The waiting room is very small and has green walls with fluorescent lighting. There was no air circulation to speak of, even with this sweltering DC heat wave. Signs typed by the receptionist state "We take walk-ins but the wait can be very long." and "No backpacks or bags in consulting rooms. Keep your valuables." Strange. The only nice thing was that they had Wimbledon on. The first thing the receptionist asks me is "Are you here to see the doctor....medically...or were you in an accident?" This was my first clue I wasn't in Kansas anymore. I assume this place capitalizes on insurance claims from auto accidents. After taking a copy of my license and insurance card (yes, I have insurance what a surprise) I filled out the paperwork. I have to admit I was wary of writing down all of my vital information, including my SSN, for use in this office. I proceed to wait for 45 min while patients with appointments at 9:30 etc are taken before me. Another "nurse" asks private questions of another patient in the waiting room in earshot of others, HIPAA anyone? After waiting this long, I decided this place made me too uncomfortable. I went to the desk where the receptionist replied that she had been waiting on hold for confirmation of the insurance. I said I had changed my mind and wanted all of the forms I filled out returned to me. I took them and left, leaving the woman dumbfounded. I just wanted to be weighed, have the little ear thermometer put in, have my blood-pressure taken, and have the little hammer check my knee reflexes. Alas, this was not to be. I do not recommend this office at all.

Sally was extremely accommodating, professional and friendly. When I hadn't showed up 5 minutes into our appointment, she reached out with a very personalized text message to make sure I was not lost. Their studio had moved about two blocks down the street, but I still had the wrong address (completely on me). She made sure I knew how to get to the new location and even which side of the building to park on. Even though we started late, she was still able to perform my full one hour massage. I was extremely relaxed the entire time. The music was gorgeous and had me picturing beautiful nature scenes. I had to fight the urge to fall asleep a few times. I left feeling calm and serene. I felt more limber. The back and hip pain I had before going was gone. I would absolutely go back. If you are looking for a less commercial spa feel and more of a crystals, chakra, warm vibe, this is a great place for you. The parking is ample as well, but is metro accessible too.

Once you're in the door, they still follow strict hygienic guidelines in order to prevent the spread of illnesses, but with enough positive energy to get you into a relaxed mood. Sarah was amazing and really helped make my first time here an awesome one. They made it a safe space for me to feel comfortable enough to ask any questions and concerns. Throughout the massage, Sarah would check in with me to ensure that everything was to my liking. To summarize, this place "Shined" despite the rainy weather... Sorry, I kind of had to do the pun.
