The Pittsburgh CLO puts on numerous productions during the year and is preparing for their summer series. I had the privilege to attend "First Date" in the Cabaret Square. The Cabaret Square is unlike the other theaters in the entertainment district in that in addition to a full bar you can get a meal served prior to the show as well as their specialty drinks of the evening. I settled for a salad which was very good. It is set up in tables of 4 as opposed to regular theatrical style seating The musical "First Date" is performed in 90 minutes without interruption. Two people meet for dinner on a blind date. Not only do they find themselves incompatable at the beginning but their date is constantly interrupted by three waiters who take on various characters in their lives. Many of them try to "bust" up the relationship in the form of various hilarious songs that had me laughing in stitches! These various characters even go completely around the audience and at times it seems like they are singing to you. All 5 members of the cast are exceptionally talented but I always give a hats off to the 3 actors who played multiple roles. Whether playing the ex-fiance Alison, the other boyfriend Reggie or even the head waiter's love song, all pull it off with costumes and props that are impressive and fun to watch. Please note that First Date has adult content in it and may not be suitable for all audiences. I am grateful to Yelp for giving me the opportunity to enjoy this fine show!

I went to The Toxic Avenger with Yelp. This was one of the most fun theater experiences that I have had. We laughed and giggle the whole night. The Cabaret Theater makes you feel like you are in the play. You sit in cafe type tables right on the floor. At one point, the Toxic Avenger just snuck up behind out table and walked right by us. The actors us the whole room as a stage. it is a great night. Also, it is pretty awesome that they had "toxic" themed drinks that you can sip on during the show. (There is also a full menu and full bar) I will definitely be back to check out other shows that go on there.

Jazz hands up!! I cannot deny myself the sudden urges I have to break out into song and dance. That's just the musical theater geek in me! The CLO reminds me of all the reasons I got into theater in the first place. For the joy of it! You can tell that they take their time with the casting. And they may bring in some Dancing with the Stars type celebrities for their shows (Joey Fatone in Producers = FANTASTIC) but the real talent lies in the local pool. It's an amazing thing to have so many local theaters and still snag the some of the most talented in the city. I really think the CLO does that. It's not just the acting, it's the singing as well, with some power house vocals. And to my surprise, It's also the dancing! Honestly, the dancing really blows me away. They don't skimp on some box step stragglers...they hire the triple threats. Fo sho! The one and only complaint I have, which is completely on a preference level is that I'm not a fan of all the show choices. Was I ecstatic when Into the Woods (my all time fav Broadway show EVER) came? YES! Did I see it twice it was that good? HECK YES! I hate the show The Producers, but the talent, again fantastic. Did I think Mame went WAY too long and el boro? YES! But it's a fact that in life you're not going to like everything. I may have been sitting by someone who was thrilled to be there for 3 hours watching that old dame strut her stuff. So I will continue to raise my jazz hands high year after year here because I'm proud of all those talented Pittsburgh peeps!

"First Date" performance and Yelp event. Lots of fun, great music. Doug Levine was the the music director and keyboard player, and he was phenomenal. There were lots of jokes and good songs with some more tender thoughtful moments near the end. It's a 90 performance without an intermission, and something to leave you laughing.

I enjoy live theater and I feel very fortunate to live in a city where there are a number of venues that support live theater. Although I can think of 10 theaters right off the top of my head, out of them all I'd have to say that the CLO Cabaret is my favorite. It might not support all of the theatrics of the Byham or Benedam; it's certainly not as intimate as the City Theater or the Off the Wall theater; it's not as nostalgic as the Carnegie in Homestead or the New Hazlet; but it's most certainly the most fun. I had the pleasure of attending last night's performance of Boeing Boeing. I luv being able to show up an hour early, be seated at a table and order dinner and drinks before the show. There's a full bar in the front of the theater that has a nice variety of craft beers. I had a Great Lakes Edmond Fitzgerald and an order of the hummus & olives as an appetizer followed by another Great Lakes with the steak satay. The hummus was as you'd expect but it came with a roasted tomato, a variety of olives and plenty of pita bread. The steak satay was delicious! It was a generous serving of tenderloin served on skewers that melted in my mouth with every bite. My only misgiving is that it didn't come with a side of any sort. A nice touch would have been to include some roasted veggies along with it. But for $11.00, I really can't complain. I've seen a number of shows here and I don't know why I always have a low expectation of the performance when I come here. I have always left with a "wow, that was really a good show" feeling and last night was no exception. The play was entertaining from start to finish and I'd recommend it to those that like comedic theater. I'll leave this review with a couple of tips for my fellow Yelpers. If there's a show in town that you'd like to see, check out the group-on sites such as "Living Social, Yipit, Goldstar, etc. I see a lot of shows and very rarely do I pay full price for a ticket. My second tip is for parking. Come in close here because I'm about to tell you one of my most valuable secrets.... Parking can be free downtown if you're willing to park on the street after 6:00 and walk a few blocks. Granted it's not available on every street but if you scout around you can usually find a spot. Last night I parked on 3rd Ave close to the PPG Building. Sure I had about a ten minute walk to the theater but it feels good to get the circulation going.

Through these offerings, the Elizabeth Seton Center has become an integral part of the Pittsburgh area, fostering creativity, learning, and intergenerational connections. I've been here in several occasions and have been impressed with their continuing support of the arts and the community. Most recently to attend the very first play that my son, daughter, and son-in-law performed together in. It was a very well done production by The Heritage Players of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. It is a fantasy play based on C.S. Lewis's novel, depicting the magical adventures of the Pevensie siblings in Narnia. They discover a wardrobe that transports them to this enchanted realm, where they aid the lion Aslan in defeating the evil White Witch and restoring peace. This timeless story, filled with magic, love, and courage, that was captivating. Catherine & Alan played Mr. & Mrs. Beaver and Matt played a guard to the evil White Witch. Rooted in the legacy of Mother Elizabeth Seton, the first American-born saint and the founder of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill, the center is committed to providing compassionate care and support for individuals of all ages and backgrounds. In keeping with this mission, the Elizabeth Seton Center offers high-quality child-care services, creating a nurturing environment for young children to grow, learn, and thrive. Through these programs, seniors can participate in stimulating and enriching experiences that promote physical and mental well-being while fostering meaningful connections with others. In addition to its focus on child and senior care, the Elizabeth Seton Center has established itself as a premier destination for music and theater enthusiasts in Pittsburgh. Through this collaboration, the center contributes to the vibrant arts landscape in Pittsburgh while offering a platform for performers to share their passion and skill with the community. The theater area is a spacious 300-seat auditorium with a excellent sightlines but the seating is old school wood and the acoustics can be challenging due to the high ceilings and the shear size of the auditorium The Elizabeth Seton Center's musical offerings further highlight the organization's commitment to promoting the arts and community engagement. Through concerts, workshops, and other events, the center fosters a deep appreciation for music and encourages both emerging and established musicians to showcase their talents. Bottom line: The Elizabeth Seton Center is a vital institution that exemplifies the values of its namesake, Mother Elizabeth Seton. With a strong dedication to child and senior care, as well as a deep commitment to promoting the arts through music and theater programs, the center continues to make a profound impact on the lives of Pittsburgh residents. By providing a welcoming space for learning, creativity, and growth, the Elizabeth Seton Center remains a true gem in the heart of Pittsburgh.

It is host to the Heritage Players who put on live performances throughout a year. I've seen my sister do productions with a couple of theather groups throughout the years. I would have to say this has to be the best one by far. The theather is old and has a bit of a 1950's nostalgia feel to it. I'm all for nostalgia but they could use some better seating. I was satisfied with the stage area acoustics and lighting making for a perfecting musical or play experience. If you're wanting any concessions for the show it's not really anything special as it's reminiscent of a table we'd see at elementary school functions consisting of candy bars sodas & a few other little snacks. But did offer a little alcohol. I would strongly recommend to BRing CAsh as consesions doesn't accept cards. I don't know about tickets as my sis gave me those free. I'd love to spectate some plays here in the future. I actually enjoyed myself a bit & will look into what else this Center has to offer.
