Being blessed with myopia from an early age, I've gotten so used to wearing glasses that they now…read moreseem an inseparable part of me. I don't really notice them there until it starts to rain (note to self - invent glasses with windshield wipers to make instant fortune) or when I accidentally damage them I take them so much for granted that I probably do let my eye health lapse longer than I really should. However, with Specsavers on Wimbledon Broadway offering good deals and more customer-friendly appointment times for eye tests, I've been better lately at keeping my 6 monthly check ups. There are frequently 2 for 1 deals and it's worth waiting for one of these. They also often offer repeat customers discounts on eye tests. I find their opticians good and efficient. I never let on that I'm a doctor and am glad to see that they still offer a good and thorough test. They have a decent range of frames. Be aware though that the basic price of the lenses is quickly raised if you want any of the coatings like anti-glare, scratch resistance, extra thin, etc I've also been in for minor repairs which they cheerfully do for free without even asking whether you're one of their customers. I can see clearly now.......

I could spend hours in Specsavers (to the annoyance of others) trying on…read moreevery pair and then deliberate for hours over two pairs that look, to the untrained eye, like the same pair, before ditching them both for something completely different. The first time I was told I needed specs (which wasn't a huge shock, I couldn't see people's faces if they were more than a foot away from me) I stupidly got caught up in a moment of excitement at finding a pair that suited me and forked out over £300 for them. They were gorgeous, they were shiny, they were Chanel. Anyhoo there's no nicer way to put this, I went out and had a cracking night one Friday after work. It was a bit of a crazy night with perhaps a few drinks thrown in. I woke up sans specs. Humph. Had I insured them? Erm, no. So I headed on down to Specsavers and discovered to my delight you could buy two pairs for the price of one! And they were so inexpensive too! Why did no one tell me this? Well apparently a million 'should've gone to Specsavers' adverts HAD told me, and they were right! I SHOULD have gone to Specsavers! The only problem I personally have is after you've chosen your frames and hand them over to have lenses put in they start telling you about all the extra add-ons you need such as an anti-glare lens. Then charge you about £40 per pair of glasses for these 'add-ons'. Well yes, I'd rather on a hot sunny day people didn't need a pair of sunglasses in order to speak to me! Puts a slight downer on relations if you're burning the retina of all those you cast your eyes on (although great if you're looking for some kind of new superpower!) Overall it's a great bargain in the grand scheme of speccy shopping but beware the dreaded last minute extra costs!
