Anatolian Special
Christopher P.

We wanted to try some other food outside of seafood in Long Island, so we came here to try out their Mediterranean dishes. The interior has a warm, family-owned business-like vibe. It is great for groups and when you're in the mood for some Mediterranean delights. Service is great, the staff were very attentive to our needs, laid out the specials for the day, and shared their recommendations which worked out nicely for us. Within my party, I was the most experienced in terms of Mediterranean/Turkish cuisines (they have virtually none), so I am rating solely from my point of view. We started off with the Baba ganoush with pita bread which was good but I wouldn't say it really stood out from other spots that I have tried before. It is a safe and tasty choice. I had ordered the Manti, and I really enjoyed it, they came out in cute, bite-sized portions like gnocchi but stuffed with lamb and glazed over with yogurt and spicy sauce - in my past, I am used to Manti being much larger. For our main dish, we had ordered the Anatolian Special which comes out in a huge spread of lamb gyro cuts, adana and chicken kebabs, lamb chop, and bulgur rice on the side. These were grilled very well, lamb chops were absolutely delicious, the adana kebab and lamb gyros went very well with the minty yogurt sauce with bulgur rice on the side. I highly recommend this dish if you want an assorted selection! Unfortunately, we ran out of time and were not able to try out their Baklava, hopefully, we can come back to try again.

Food is amazing! The lemon chicken soup is better than home made( well my home made anyways) had the lamb chops and shrimp. Was perfectly cooked and spiced. The lamb was tender and super tasty. Staff is friendly and attentive. Owner even came by the table and had a chat! They had the doors open to let fresh air in which I Absolutely love Worthy stop!

Zucchini Fritters - Fantastic!

Damn good soup! Not that I normally get excited over soup. But on a raw, dreary day away from home Pita House was an awesome find. The Turkey Orzo soup, simple as it sounds, was banging with the flavors of Turkish spice and tender turkey. My daughter & I split the Zucchini Fritters appetizer. I think they put it in the wrong category as it was entree-sized. Three shredded zucchini patties, breaded, fried and covered with warm yogurt and tomato sauces: it was the best thing I've eaten in a while! The fritters also stuffed us. Had to take our Greek Salad and Lamb Adana gyro (huge) to go. They made great snacks later on. Service was great - friendliest people in the area. They walk you through the Turkish menu, happy to get others acquainted with their delicious cuisine.

We started off with the cheese cigar and eggplant in tomato sauce appetizer. Both were delicious. The cigars were crispy and the filling was creamy snd cheesy, a bit salty but normal for cheese cigars. The eggplant was flavorful. The chicken main was delicious. The chicken was juicy and light in flavor. The lamb gyro was okay. It was game tasting g. You could definitely taste the lamb so too much can be overwhelming. Maybe it needed to be cooked more, better cleaned or have extra flavor. The iskandar kabab was a huge disappointment. The breat was soaking wet (see picture). I don't know if they put water on the base of the plate or they didn't toast the bread well enough and just left it sitting on the plate for a while and added some kind of liquid but by the time I got to the table it was really wet it was unappetizing. The sauce on top of the meat tasted exactly like marinara sauce from ajar which is disappointing because usually the sauce is very flavourful on this type of dish. The French fries were very bad. They were thick but they were oily and mushy and overdone. We didn't eat them. Two of our mains cane with salad, which was okay. It lacked a freshness and the olive looked old and pruny. The lemon orzo soup was fine. Mera's tip: don't miss out on the appetizers.

So this spot has been a go to since I was a kid and it's truly fantastic. There's just clearly some moments they don't shine quite as bright as you can see in my varying reviews, but the truth is, I always go back for the door Turkish cuisine. And there it lies, Turkish. Their food is wonderful And last night was no exception Amazing grape leaves Amazing chicken kebab Amazing lahmajun

Update: We went back almost immediately because we couldn't stop talking about the first meal, and…read moresomehow it was every bit as amazing. The lamb shank was absurdly tender, the baba ganoush was smoky and rich, and yes, the ezme, beets, and pita remain mandatory ordering. But what really sets this place apart is the heart behind it. On a hard night for our family, a simple unexpected dessert brought genuine comfort and a smile when we needed it most. They don't just feed your stomach here. They feed your soul. I would go to war for this restaurant. An absolute gem, genuinely some of the best food I've had in the area!! I don't write glowing reviews lightly, but this place absolutely earned one. From the moment the food hit the table, it was obvious this was something special. Every single thing we ordered, from the mezze sampler to the drinks to dessert, felt like the best version of itself it could possibly be. Not one weak note. Even the pita bread was memorable. Warm, soft, fresh, lightly charred, and worthy of praise in a meal FULL of standout dishes. The mezze sampler was EXTRAORDINARY. The beet and goat cheese was one of those bites that makes you stop mid-conversation. The goat cheese was fresh, creamy, rich, and perfectly balanced by roasted beets that were unbelievably sweet and luscious. Honestly, they were almost candy-like. I don't know what they did to prepare them, but they were incredible. The spicy vegetable dip, Esme, was bright, vibrant, and bursting with flavor. Fresh, zippy, and balanced with just enough heat. The eggplant dip was equally impressive, with a silky texture, subtle tartness, mellow tomato notes, and that gentle pleasant bitterness that makes eggplant so satisfying when it's done well. The hummus was ridiculously creamy and rich with tahini, giving it a deep nutty flavor that made it one of the best hummus dishes I've personally had. We also ordered the Turkish manti, and they were fantastic. Little handmade parcels topped with cool yogurt and warm spiced oil that brought everything together beautifully. We didn't even manage to take a picture because by that point we were so completely absorbed in the meal that all manners disappeared and we just devoured them immediately. No photo. No pause. Just instinct. That might be the strongest endorsement I can give. The mint lemonade was perfect for a warm day. Bright, refreshing, tart, cooling, and mint-forward without being overly sweet. It tasted clean, balanced, and incredibly refreshing. Dessert completely sealed the deal. The Turkish revani was unbelievably soft, soaked through with milk, and had that luscious almost tres leches quality that makes every bite melt away. The fresh berries and raspberry sauce gave it just enough brightness and acidity to balance the sweetness beautifully. I had a cup of black tea with it, and the combination of cake, berries, and tea was one of those simple little moments that feels kind of magical. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Tasteful decor, warm atmosphere, and thoughtful design that feels welcoming without trying too hard. The service was friendly, attentive, and genuine. More than anything, the whole place feels like a labor of love. What blows my mind most is that this restaurant has apparently been here for over two years, and we somehow only just discovered it. We were legitimately mad at ourselves thinking about how many meals we could have had here already. Now we're just trying to make up for lost time!! For roughly $80 for two before tip, the value was outstanding. At first glance, the menu might look a little upscale, but once the food arrives, it makes perfect sense. The quality more than justifies the price. I've had good Mediterranean food before. This is operating on a completely different level. Without question, this is some of the best Mediterranean food I've had anywhere in the area, and I can't wait to go back.

We went for dinner at 6 pm on a Saturday, we thought we were the only ones there, again because of the empty parking lot. There were a few people already seated. We didn't have any reservations, and I thought - Why would we? We started with the appetizers, babaganoush and calamari. Both were good. My wife and I had the mixed platter for two. All the meats were tasty, seasoned well and weren't dry. For dessert, I tried the affogato, espresso over ice cream and that hit the spot. Overall, we were impressed. People did start coming in after 6 so it's best to reserve a table especially if you have more than 4 in your party. The don't serve liquor so it's BYOB!! For some, that might be the important thing to note .

We were waited upon shortly after being seated. The dining room is spacious, nicely lit, and the seating at tables is comfortable. We decided to go with all tapas to share. We started with a nicely dressed house salad. Then we ordered and shared grilled shrimp a la plancha, empanadas, chorizo, and lamb-beef-pork skewers. All were nicely plated and delicious. We each ordered a Spanish rose which was a perfect accompaniment to the tapas. We celebrated my wife's birthday with a scrumptious order of chocolate lava cake served with a scoop of ice cream. Service was friendly and professional. Sadly, however, the dining room was noticeably not busy. We wondered why- could it have been that people were worried about the upcoming blizzard and just decided to stay home? What a shame. This is a really fine restaurant. We asked the bartender if we could enjoy the Happy Hour at one of the tables, he said, No. Only at the bar. Something that was not spelled out on the menu nor the website. We sat at the bar. The menu listed the house gin at $5. I asked which Gin did they use as House Gin. The bartender said, I can give you Tanqueray but the price is not $5 like the menu says, it's $7. He said that menu was from Milford, not Westbrook. Weird...so I get a glass of wine, which did ring at $6 like the menu said. We ordered a few "tapas". Out of the four that we tried, the best one was the turnover (empanada), then the meatballs (tiny meatballs), then the fried calamari (which tasted and looked out of a frozen wholesale fried calamari bag) and last the pork medallion (not tasty at all). When the bill came, two of the tapas had the wrong price (higher than what the menu said)....I had to ask the bartender to rectify, which he did.....Poor people the ones that do not check their bills....they can easily be overcharged here....Big time..... Not recommended....not coming back.
