We ended up at this restaurant because it was the last one open at the time; we sat around waiting to be seated for an hour and thirty minutes, gave our orders swiftly once seated... and then waited another hour thirty to get our food. We arrived around 8 and left at midnight. They let us drink at the bar while we waited, but it proved futile as they provided no menu and declined to make run-of-the-mill drink requests. It took a long time for anyone to even acknowledge us after we were seated, and we weren't the only ones who noticed; we actually watched a younger couple get up and leave after waiting too long to be helped. That's never a good sign. To be fair, the food wasn't bad -- just very average -- but when paired with the slow service and underwhelming atmosphere, it's hard to find a reason to return. We've been traveling to OKI for over 6 years and never knew this little gem even existed until recently when a friend and I stopped in for lunch. He ordered a bbq sandwich and I got a burger, both of which were quick, affordable and delicious! This place is a little difficult to navigate, there's multiple doors near the front all saying hostess stand outside. I didnt realize that meant on the other side of the building from where the parking is at. That's not the real reason im writing this review, im mostly complaining about the food. The shrimp po boy I ordered came out around 50 minutes after I was greeted. It smelled fishy and like the shrimp had gone bad. The Po boy also came with fries but they were rubbery and like they had been sitting out for 15 minutes under a heat lamp waiting for my po boy to be served with it. The server I had was nice but the only time I was spoken to was twice, the first was when I ordered and the second was when I got my check. We come to OKI all the time and love trying all the local breakfast gems--there are so many great spots to choose from! So when we saw Pirates Deck had started serving breakfast, we were excited to add a new one to the rotation. One thing that makes this place stand out right away is the space--it's big! While many of the local favorites are cozy and charming (and we love them for it), Pirates Deck offers a bit more breathing room, which can mean shorter wait times during those busy beach mornings. The vibe inside is great--bright, open, and super cute with a relaxed, beachy feel. The staff was amazing--genuinely friendly and on top of things. Our food came out hot and fast, which is always a win. The menu had something for everyone, and the prices were almost shocking (in a good way). Nothing we ordered was over $10! The daily special was a sausage quiche with a perfectly buttery crust and lots of flavor. The waffle? Absolutely massive--like, dinner plate big--and somehow still light and fluffy. I grabbed a six-piece French toast to-go for only $5, and it was easily enough for two people to share (or one person to aggressively enjoy alone, no judgment). read more

This place is a scam! Watch your bill! Charged me 86.00 on my receipt, got a returned ticket for $93.00. Said it was for a 4% credit card fee. Credit card fee, when I questioned it, they threatened to call the police on me! Avoid this place like the plague! The manager doesn't know how to deal with a customer questioning her authority. She tried to call 911 and they didn't answer for her. Must not be the first time. Awful management and leadership! read more

Took over an hour to be seated at tables that were empty from the time we arrived. Then took a hour and a half to get the food for it to be mixed up. Had the wrong steaks with the wrong sides. My wife got an order of scallops that tasted like they were bad. Then after all of that I got charged the wrong bill for $70 more than mine was. read more

Visited on a Sunday night during off season for beach. Had no problems getting a seat. Gabby was right over to get our drink orders. She came right back with drinks and took our food order. My beer did not come out frosty cold. The dining room is a large and very open with several television monitors, pool tables and a few games. There is an open bar at rear of building and has cornhole boards. In the winter they capsulate bar area and turn on heaters. My wife ordered a bowl of seafood chowder to start which was thick, meaty and taste good. Gabby came soon after with our food in good time. My wife ordered a crab cake and I ordered hot wings. My wife could not eat the crab cake as there was some kind of spicing in it that we have never tasted. I ordered the mild hot wing sauce which was very mild. The wings were cooked pretty crispy the way I like them. Should have ordered the hot coating. Gabby offered to bring my wife something else but she was not very hungry and had her heart set on the cake. Our bill came and Gabby had removed the crab cake from our tab. read more

Our out of town friends chose this restaurant because the menu appealed to everyone in our group. 2 of the party had the pick 2 seafood, both ordered flounder and clam strips. Flounder was fried until it was dry and was full of bones making it inedible, the clam strips were just what you would buy in the Walmart freezer, nothing fresh about either of those choices. Cole slaw was out of a container, I will say the hushpuppies were very good though. One in the group ordered the boil basket special of the night, all of which were just "ok". Another in the party ordered the grilled scallops and said they were "on point" and very good. Our server, whom I couldn't understand what she said when she approached the table, was not attentive, drink glasses empty, did a drive by check on the table. That being said, she already knew she was guaranteed a 20% gratuity that is added on the check, as we were a table of 8. The auto gratuity of 20% for tables of 6 or more and the 4% surcharge for using a credit card is well displayed as is the uncharge for grilling an entree choice. This is by far a quality establishment in my opinion. Look around for another choice, food not fresh our server was lazy, there was only 5 tables in the entire place. I'm sorry it was this bad, I know how long it took to reopen, please work on improvements, I'd love to be able to go back, can't see it happening. read more

On our girls' vacation, we went to Pirates Deck after having no luck finding a restaurant that wasn't overly busy. We called and were told it'd be no wait, but when we arrived less than 5 minutes later, we waited around 40 minutes for a table. That's fine--things happen. But the worst was yet to come. After we were seated, our waitress came to take our order. She was helpful and let us know that they were understaffed that night. We placed all of our orders. One of us tried to order a crawfish boil with sausage added. Our waitress came back ~5 minutes after the orders were placed and let her know that they ran out of sausage. No big deal. Then she came back about 20-30 minutes after THAT, (when you'd think our food was about done), and told the same girl that they didn't have any crawfish. That was a bummer, especially since our food was on its way out of the kitchen. Why weren't we told that 20 minutes before? Not sure. The waitress tried to convince her to order something off the menu of "equal value." I'm really not sure why. Maybe so she didn't have to switch it in the system? Either way, my friend ended up replacing it with a burger. All the food came out while my friend waited another 15-20 minutes for the burger. It was very underwhelming. I got one of the seafood combos with shrimp, flounder, and deviled crab. It was ordinary frozen/fried food. That's the way it seemed for everyone's meals. Nothing exciting or honestly very good. I didn't eat my flounder because the "skin"looked really disgusting. Our waitress informed me that it's supposed to look that way, but my other friend ordered flounder and it didn't appear that way...I believed the waitress, but still--not appetizing to look at. My friend who ordered the burger had her original crawfish boil sides come out because the kitchen made them already. She was charged for those. She really shouldn't have been charged for them since she didn't ask to have those + the new meal she was getting. But we didn't complain. The salt was empty and leaking liquid, there were dead flies all over the windowsill, and the soap in the bathroom was in a styrofoam cup on the sink. Little things but definitely starting to add up! To top off the night, two of us paid with cash--the waitress never asked if they wanted change back, and instead, pocketed the change. When my friends asked for their change back, the waitress appeared annoyed and went back into the back room and pulled it out of her apron (they saw it happen). Nice. TLDR; Don't go here. It is not worth your time, money, or stress, and it will waste a vacation dinner night! read more

The pirate deck offers a great location on Oak Island. The food is mediocre and the service at least the night that we went wasn't great. We were there for a Charity event and music bingo while the songs for the bingo were fabulous, our service was lackluster and we had to ask repeatedly to bring napkins as well as silverware... By the end of the evening as people were leaving the service got a little better. This is a great place for an event in the front part. However, in the back part of the restaurant the bar is a little bit more. Chill and easier to get drinks and food and napkins. read more

Had I not been absolutely starving when I ate my meal, I wouldn't have eaten it at all I ordered the flounder basket, and it was totally dry, with honest-to-god, NO seasoning whatsoever. Not even salt or pepper as far as I could tell. Nothing on the fries, nothing on the fish, and nothing on the singular hushpuppie I got either. The tartar sauce was the only thing that made it edible, and there wasn't nearly enough provided to save the dish. However, it was the only place that would serve us to-go @ 8PM on a Sunday (for some reason no other restaurants nearby will do that?) so I'll give them that. read more

Incredibly great cost for drinks. Pool tables add a good mix in activities. Went two nights in a row while in town recently. Not sure why this place does not have more positive reviews or if there's new management that's changed.. But bartenders and waiting staff were all great and the place was very clean. Went for Saturday breakfast & food was well below expectations. We did get a Bloody Mary & believe mixer was bad. We were both sick & that was only item in common. Food extremely greasy - scramble eggs & waffle which also had a strange taste. Only good thing about this establishment was our server who was friendly.
