This particular night was my first night in town. I was jetlagged but hungry, so I came by myself to have an easy dinner and some good meat. I have been here several times before, but I always enjoy walking in and taking in the ambiance of the restaurant. Something about Fogo. I was seated immediately and ordered a Caipirinha and the buffet. I waited for my drink, which was excellent, and then headed to the buffet, starting with the salad bar. I headed back to my table, trying to keep my salad to a minuimum as to eat more steak! I turned my disc over to green, and the meat started arriving. I love Picanha, but I know they always hold back, so I have to ask to make sure they bring it. As I ate, the place filled up, and I noticed that every table was full. I ordered another Caipirinha and started to get full, as one does, eating this much meat! I finally turned my disc back to red and asked for the check. Pricey by Brazilian standards, but still cheap to an American. Yes, there are many Churrascarias here, but this one never fails to impress.

My exact thought was "wait...we have these in the US....I want something else, more local." HOWEVER, when I learned that THIS is the OG, the original Fogo, my thoughts changed. Service was excellent, the place was clean and classy, great experience all around.

Perched at the bar near the kitchen door we had a great view of the beautiful plates coming out of the tiny kitchen. We ordered off the regular menu but from what I saw, the 7-course tasting menu (R$149) looks like the way to go, particularly for a special occasion meal (or if you're planning on ordering 3 courses.) The ingredients and names of dishes will be familiar to those who know anything about comida brasiliera but with the presentation and flavours are taken to the next level. Everything we ordered was delicious. We also got some good wine/food pairing recommendations from our server. We came for a special lunch day that they were testing out opening on Fridays (usually they only open mid week evenings) and had a blast. We even got to sit next to Brazilian comedy star Fabio Porchat, since the restaurant is small and half of the seating is at a bar. Super fun! The menu is pre-set other than the main dish. Everyone in our three person girl group chose the Mouqueca and loved it. Literally every dish had us wanting to lick the plate and hoping it wouldn't end. Each plate was fairly delicate other than the main course but we were super full by the time we left. The atmosphere here is very intimate, with a small location, big windows to see the action in the kitchen, and a mix match of feminine silverware and plates. It was fun to see how the different playing could affect flavor - causing sauces and elements to mix more or less. The server was friendly and recommended a great half bottle wine pairing that was both tasty and affordable. I will definitely come back here if I can find a free weeknight and reservation!

Open since 2014, and recently the recipient of a second Michelin Star, it is after passing through a hushed hallway that guests find themselves inside Ralston's "kitchen theater," a staff fluent in English leading guests to polished wooden tables that extend back towards the bar and urban garden on the patio. A quiet and focused space in Vila Madalena, everything from TUJU's design to Cocktail list indicative of a Chef who has spent time researching both technique and his culture, guests visiting for the first time are encouraged to partake in Ivan's "Season Menu," the carte blanche taking into account allergies and dislike but otherwise consisting of thirteen courses served across two hours. Trained in the kitchens of Maní, RyuGin and Mugaritz, the latter identifiable in modernist spins on local Produce, it was while sipping on a strong drink of Gin and sweetened Acid that course one arrived, sliced and aerated Pumpkin forming the background for Peas and Citrus with herbs that carry over nicely to a "Taco" comprised of sweet Crab and shaved Corn wrapped in Nasturtium. Continuing light with translucent Shrimp swimming in vibrant Broth, its follow-up a comparison of local River Mussels to those from the Atlantic bathed in Manioc Root Juice, fans of Uni will be stunned by tender Tongues amidst a tangle of Leeks with Parsnip Cream while torched Cauliflower finds itself the centerpiece of a thick Sauce that tastes something like Mole mixed with Soy. Shifting back to Seafood, a tender Tentacle obtained through Chef Ralston's relationship with local fisherman accented in umami, one would be hard-pressed to name a more interesting *looking* dish than Arapaima Fish in Seaweed Pil Pil, the combination of snappy Flesh and Skin Crisps equally tantalizing alongside Artichokes and Bean Sprouts. Completing savories with grilled Tuna and two types of Palm plus unsweetened Açaí, a diversity of textures seeing the best bites those that incorporate a little of each into a single forkful, it is by way of Cheese that the palate is transitioned, the Blue and Parmesan-mimic particularly impressive, as too was housemade Bread and Butter plus the bright green Fruit described as a Fig. Not scaling back on sweets, Dessert number one perfuming stewed Berries with Mint in a makeshift Sundae, it was while Coffee dripped tableside that a tangy Yogurt Parfait dazzled, the Pour Over subsequently enjoyed with housemade Chocolates filled with everything from Dulce de Leche and Cashew Fruit to Garlic.

Yelp Review 2025 #163:…read more One of my birthday meals while in Brazil was at D.O.M. - a 2-Michelin starred restaurant. World-renowned Chef Alex Atala's brainchild. I made a reservation about 2 months prior to coming here. They do charge your credit card for a deposit which they apply to your final bill anyway. Knowing how I've been feeling about tasting menus lately (a general lack of stamina to eat over 10 courses) and my time in São Paulo was very limited, I opted for the Executive Menu which offers traditional Brazilian fare. I arrived 30 minutes early. Upon getting seated, they gave me a welcome drink of alua, a mildly alcoholic drink made by fermenting pineapple rinds, and roasted cashews. Executive Menu: Offered only for lunch Monday to Friday, from 12pm-3pm. You have 3 options for proteins: fish, chicken or beef tenderloin. It comes with rice brown beans and black beans, green salad, beiju with a spread made from fermented cashew, rice, sautéed potatoes, sautéed kale with bacon, breaded banana, and farofa. To finish the experience, you get pudim (Brazilian flan) for dessert. Chef Alex Atala's pursuit of going back to traditional Brazilian cuisine brought this menu together and has been on the menu for more than 25 years since the restaurant opened. I opted for the tenderloin and it was tender. I really liked the potatoes, black beans and rice with farofa. It was a lot of sides. They gave me a coconut cake for my birthday. And I got the chance to meet Chef Alex Atala himself which was the highlight of my trip to Brazil. It was an amazing and unforgettable birthday meal. It started my trip to Brazil on a high! One thing to add is that even Michelin-star restaurants in Brazil do not have a dress code. They prefer you come in with whatever you're comfortable wearing. I unfortunately couldn't find the dress I had planned on wearing so I came in with leggings and a hoodie and they were perfectly fine with it. Unpretentious despite the prestige they have.
