You can decide if you want to bring your boat, bike, organize a picnic, hike, run or everything. 30 minutes driving south Edmonton and you are in the middle of a beautiful area. I've visited this park several times, during different seasons and the experience is always great. During my last visit we did a 14 km hike round trip and went back to the parking lot area to enjoy our picnic. There are enough tables for everyone, nice trees that are happy to give you some shade and a big area for the kids to run. Busy during the weekends but you will always be able to find a parking spot. Read the signs carefully and follow the maps if you decide to go for a ride or a walk. Remember if you see some wildlife, don't feed them, they can't eat human food and digest it properly.

Bunchberry Meadows is a privately owned conservation area just west of Edmonton and north of Devon…read more From my home in the Windermere area, I was able to drive here in about 20-25 minutes, with easy access off the Henday. The turn in to the area from Range Road 261 is easy to miss, but once you make the turn, large signs tell you that you're in the right spot. The entire area is really well maintained, with a gravel parking lot, maps and concrete outhouses (which were very clean!). There are a number of trail loops, and if you do all of them, expect to walk about 9 km, or two hours. Depending on the trail route you select, you could walk much less than this. The trails are stamped down grassland or peat, and were easy walking, but I wouldn't recommend a stroller due to uneven ground. I was also more comfortable in hiking shoes than I would have been in sneakers or sandals. The whole trail system is very well marked throughout, with maps and pointers giving walking distances and times back to the parking lot at every trail fork. Along the trails there are placards with information about trees and wildlife in the conservation area, and I especially loved the birch forest - rare and beautiful. I visited in early September, and mosquitoes weren't an issue with some bug spray, but with marshy areas I would expect them to be out in full force during warmer months. I enjoyed my visit, and would definitely return, especially once the leaves start to turn in the fall. Note: dogs and bicycles are not permitted due to some of the sensitive habitats in the area.

Such a quiet spot on the weekend when we visited! Marsh birds, and only one other couple and their dogs, although there were 4 vehicles... The park was quite clean and well picked up, although we always pick up trash etc when we go to a park and try to leave it cleaner than when we came. Only picked up 4 petrified poops, and a small trash bag of plastics and cigarette butts. Smoking in dry grass?! Come on folks. And you brought it in, you carry out your butts?! The walking areas are grassed, mowed & level, although it is a marshland, so there are some areas subject to mud, soft spots etc. Lots of variety of grasses, low shrubs and reefs/water for the pups to sniff and explore. It is not very treed, so if sun is your nemesis, wear a hat if it's sunny out. A nice loop, in a little valley, but it was a calm day so can't say if the wind gets going. It is fenced on 3 sides, but not designed as an off leash park, definitely not secure. There are garbage bins, benches, picnic tables and a poop bag dispenser sponsored by Bone & Biscuit at the parking area, but nothing around the far side of the pond, so be prepared. There are no human toilet facilities, (at least in April 2021 when we visited), again, be prepared. Look forward to visiting next time we are in the area.

Amberlea Meadows- They don't want our business…read more We called in September and then again later in the week. We left messages requesting hay bales for bunnies. No one returned or answered our calls, so we went out to the site, thinking they were too busy with horses to answer our calls. Their website says they are open from 8 am to 10 pm on Saturdays. We arrived at 4:10. There was no one around except someone grooming their horse. Whoever it was explained that the owners were at a horse show. So I saw a light on in the farm buildings and rang a doorbell. A young blond woman finally came to the door. She feigned surprise that we were there looking for hay bales on a Saturday, and so late (it was about 4:20 by this time). She told me the owners are never here on the weekend. I explained that I had phoned early in the week but no one had returned my call. I asked her if she could text the owners and ask about bales of hay. We waited outside for about 10 minutes. Through the window screen I heard her mocking me to a male companion. Finally she came back and told us she would sell us a bale- do you have cash? Despite the fact that my friend had bought two bales for $16 the previous year, she was firm on $20 for one. I would suggest the following: 1. update the website to include office hours.eg 10-noon Mondays to Fridays . 2. Hire someone to answer your phone if you are unable to. Or, very simply, put a "not available" message on your answering machine. 3. Possibly forward your messages when you're out of town. I was disappointed by the rude and disrespectful greeting we received from the business, both by phone and in person. To them I say "You might not want to sell hay bales. You might be only interested in horse owners' business. But you should not be just plain rude to people making inquiries. Especially when you don't bother answering your phone or responding to messages. Also, if you don't want our business, make that clear on your website. Then we wouldn't waste your time or ours."
