The atmosphere is fantastic -- it truly feels like you're up north in the Northwoods. It has that cozy, laid-back ski vibe that makes you want to hang out after your runs. The food is reasonably priced and always hits the spot. Drinks at the bar are a little on the expensive side, but that's pretty typical for ski hills. I've never had an issue with any staff members -- everyone has always been friendly and helpful. Service upstairs in The Hideout can be a bit slow at times, especially during busy hours, but it's nothing that ruins the experience. Overall, it's a great place to ski, relax, and spend the day. Highly recommend -- especially if you're looking for that true Northwoods feel.

There is terrain for everyone from super long greens that still have some roll to blues with big head walls and steep groomed and ungroomed blacks and glade runs that let you explore- you can have it all here. In a year I wasn't going to head out west, Powderhorn filled my need for great skiing! The lodge is new and comfortable (next year we will be able to use it more) and there are lots of places to stay including ski in and ski out on mountain (we did AirBNB 10 minutes away). If you want more adventure, Black Jack and Indianhead are a short drive away. There is not a big terrain park here but we still found lots of jumps and rock outcroppings to keep us busy!

Bought our tickets online the night before, since we weren't sure about the crowds for the fall colors. Head to the little shop to check in and get your ticket (purchasing online just guarantees you a spot, and is not your actual ticket) and make sure you check out the super cute and reasonably priced jewelry by local artisans featuring U.P. copper. I snagged a pair of earrings Head over to the ski lift and you're on your way for breathtaking vistas; on a clear day you can see 3 states and Canada. Once off the chair lift you'll wait for a ride up 18 flights in an elevator, and once off the elevator you can enjoy the view, or climb another 100 or so steps to the top for an even better view! If you're not faint of heart I suggest taking the stairs, which run alongside the ski jump, back to the ground instead of taking the elevator back down. The really in shape can take the stairs from the ground all the way to the top in lieu of the elevator. The view was gorgeous and we felt the entire experience of seeing the fall colors was worth the cost. We had a fun day and would recommend it to fellow leaf peepers!

The ski hill centers around a high speed 6 person lift, which runs very well with friendly staff. Buy your lift tickets online (it is cheaper), then you get RFID card at the outside ticket counter. Do the waivers online ahead of time, will save time as well. The runs are well groomed, fairly well marked. Lots of variety, good for beginner to advanced skiers. Additional lifts are present throughout the terrain, with really nice, friendly lifties. I highly recommend as a destination ski area for the Midwest. MFSR has spent $15 million upgrade this hill, and it shows.

Despite staying for the weekend and the resort being practically empty, they refused to cancel even part of the reservation or offer a future credit because it wasn't canceled 30 days in advance. My mistake ended up costing me $600. None of the front desk staff seemed to have the authority to make decisions about refunds. The only person who could--Teegan--had no direct line, never responded, and despite calling for an entire week, I never once spoke to her. To make matters worse, the unit above us had a water leak, and our bathroom ceiling literally collapsed. Still no refund, no compensation, not even an apology from management. I have great memories of skiing these hills back when they were Indian Head and Black Jack. Sadly, after this experience, I won't be returning.

It's a fun hill with so much variety and you can just get lost with the runs and possibly not even do the same run twice! The wine hut is the greatest perk, we even had friends snowmobile and snow shoe to meet us who didn't ski with us. The staff is so friendly and I love that they all work at the lifts and the restaurant and the wine hut and swap around. The restaurant is great too, fast service and fast menu. Love having a pool and hot tub to use. And we stayed nearby with the perfect ski in ski out unit!

This year we snowshoed for the first time. The trails are perfect for the beginner who is looking to gain some experience. The ski chalet has such a warm ambience and the cross country skiers are everywhere! Maybe next year we will try that!
