I was even given Sara Flores' direct cell # but no luck. The reception doesn't have any information and always rush you to get off the phone. I can only imagine how upset I would be if my child was a student at El Sol Academy. How many others have experienced the same???

First was appetizers and mingling. There were a lot of people so it was hard to maneuver but we made it work. There were two open bars with beer, wine, and soda so I enjoyed some Chardonnay. We browsed the children's art pieces that were for sale and they were gorgeous! Some of those kids have a true talent! After we looked at the art we were ushered across the street to the main dinner event which was located outside in between some of the classrooms. The school itself is very beautiful and well maintained. I was very impressed. While people were taking their seats there was even a band playing and it was all middle school students! So neat! They did a great day! The food was great. The speeches were amazing. And I heard through the grape vine that a lot of money was raised for the charity! YAY!!

Calvary is deeply rooted in Christian values, and you truly see those values lived out daily through the way teachers care for students and how the community supports one another. One of the things we love most is the strong sense of community. Families are welcoming, and there are many opportunities for parent involvement, which makes you feel connected to your child's education. We strongly believe parent involvement plays a huge role in shaping our children's future. The school also offers many field trips and hands-on learning experiences that keep students excited and engaged. The teachers are experienced, caring, and genuinely invested in each child's growth--academically, spiritually, and socially. With over 50 years of history, the school has a strong foundation and clear mission. We also appreciate the diverse student body and the emphasis on mission opportunities. Academically, we love the focus on spelling bees, speech meets, and foreign language instruction starting in first grade. We couldn't be happier with our experience!

I appreciate your response, but I want to be very clear: no one from Calvary has ever reached out…read moreto me directly to discuss my experience. There was no follow-up, no attempt at reconciliation, and no effort to understand what I personally witnessed. What I shared was not based on "emotion" or misunderstanding. It was based on what I saw with my own eyes. I witnessed Mrs. Morgan yank a first grader by the back of his hoodie and yell at him to sit down. I witnessed her grab another student by the arm and push him to the ground during a class field trip. I witnessed her publicly embarrass a student in front of his peers, telling him he doesn't listen. These were not secondhand accounts. These were direct observations. Additionally, when I brought a serious concern to administration regarding a student telling my son she "didn't like Black people," the issue was minimized rather than meaningfully addressed. That was deeply concerning. You may state that investigations were conducted and documentation exists, but my experience as a parent was that my concerns were not handled with transparency, accountability, or care. Instead of focusing on defending reputations, I would hope the school would focus on reflection and correction. You consistently teach Christ-like love and character. My experience did not reflect those values in practice. This was my lived experience. Dismissing it as a difference in "perspective" does not change what I saw or how it was handled. I stand by my review. My phone number nor my email has changed.

From the very beginning, this experience should have raised red flags. On our first day to tour the…read moreschool, the person who scheduled it wasn't even in the office, and we had to wait 15 minutes for another staff member, to show up. This experience has honestly been stressful, exhausting, and completely disappointing from the start. A week before school started, we were informed that a last-minute change had been made from 30 kids being accepted to the class down to only 28 spots, resulting in our twins being dropped. We had already purchased all the school supplies and uniforms for our three children. The coordinator who had been guiding us gave daily updates, misleading us by saying that if other kids didn't show up, spots would open for our twins. On Tuesday, we were told that kids needed a total of three unexcused absences for spots to open. On Wednesday, we were told there was still no final decision. On Thursday, we were promised an answer by Friday, and finally, on Friday, we were informed that it was an oversight and the wrong grade had been reviewed. After this entire exhausting nightmare, we called the principal twice and left two voicemails, but have yet to receive a call back. This entire process was unprofessional, disorganized, and completely unreliable. If this is how the school handles enrollment, it raises serious concerns about how teaching and protocols are managed. We share our experience so other parents can avoid this extremely stressful and traumatic process.

Why Fitz Intermediate Deserves a Closer Look: A Critical Perspective…read more When evaluating middle schools across California, academic performance, student support, and overall environment are key indicators of quality. Unfortunately, Stephen R. Fitz Intermediate School in Santa Ana consistently ranks in the bottom tier of these metrics, raising serious concerns about its effectiveness in preparing students for future success. Academic Underperformance Fitz Intermediate ranks in the bottom 50% of all California schools for both math and reading proficiency. Only 25% of students meet math standards, compared to the state average of 33%, and just 44% are proficient in reading, below the state average of 47% A B. These scores suggest systemic issues in curriculum delivery, student engagement, or instructional quality. ‍ Overburdened Classrooms The student-teacher ratio at Fitz is 23:1, higher than the California average of 21:1 A B. While this may seem minor, it can significantly impact individualized attention, especially in a school where many students may need additional academic support. Larger class sizes often correlate with lower student performance and reduced teacher effectiveness. Declining Enrollment and Limited Diversity Enrollment has dropped by 18% over five years A, which may reflect dissatisfaction among families or broader demographic shifts. Additionally, the school's diversity score is 0.23--far below the state average of 0.63 A. While the student body is predominantly Hispanic (over 84%), the lack of broader cultural representation may limit exposure to diverse perspectives and experiences. Socioeconomic Challenges Over 90% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch B, placing Fitz among the top 10% of California schools with the highest poverty rates. While this isn't inherently negative, it underscores the need for robust support systems--academic, emotional, and nutritional--that may be lacking or underfunded. Reputation and Rankings Despite some positive reviews from parents and students, Fitz ranks #930 out of 2,803 public middle schools in California on Niche, and only #523 for teacher quality B. These rankings suggest that while some staff may be dedicated, the school as a whole struggles to compete with higher-performing institutions. --- Conclusion Labeling Fitz Intermediate as "the worst" may be dramatic, but the data paints a troubling picture. Low academic achievement, high poverty rates, and declining enrollment signal a school in need of urgent reform. Rather than ignoring these issues, stakeholders should view them as a call to action--because every student deserves a school that helps them thrive, not just survive.
