Long overdue review! Highly recommend Pins & Curls! I booked a virtual consultation and hair lesson with Pins & Curls a few months before my wedding in April 2022. Although the in-person service is on hold during the pandemic, the virtual experience was fun and informative! I learned different techniques to create the style I liked. Something I am grateful for because I learned curling techniques that I would not have known about if I had my hair professionally done. Michelle is a great instructor - she asked for styles I wanted before the lesson, provided a list of supplies (e.g., hairspray brand, comb/brushes, hairpins, etc.) to use during the lesson, and used a mimic type method to show how create the desired hairstyle. She also recommended hair accessories that would work best with the hairstyle and showed hair style placements during my lesson. It was easy to follow the steps. We took turns creating the hair style with Michelle taking lead. During my turn, she provided tips which was very motivating (since it looks a lot easier than doing it yourself). My first style turned out really great! She asked for feedback before showing me two other ways to recreate the a similar style, yet easier. I thought this was a great alternative in case I had issues with the more intricate style. It was a great feeling to receive compliments in which many were surprised that I did my own hair. I am long overdue in writing this review, but look no further for your hairstyling needs. I found the hair and makeup vendor search one of the more difficult aspects of wedding planning. A friend referred me to Michelle/Pins & Curls and I am SO grateful. Michelle is extremely responsive over email and she created a wedding day hair and makeup schedule for the bridesmaids, MOB, and MOG that would make an Excel lover/Type A bride swoon. Now: the hair. I was 100% happy with my hair on the wedding day. It was even better than the hair trial. It felt fabulous and looked incredible in pictures. My bridesmaids also looked phenomenal (many went with updos, which can sometimes be hit or miss). My MOH, who is so particular that she chose to do her own makeup and almost canceled her hair appointment, was so thrilled with her hair that she booked Michelle for another event a few months later. I couldn't wait to write a review for Michelle, she is THE best hair stylist. I had the honor of having her do my bridal hair over the weekend for my wedding in Napa and it was perfect! I had about two different bridal hair trials with other stylists before I found Michelle on her instagram page and I'm SO thankful I found her! She knew exactly what I was asking for even though I wasn't sure what I wanted myself. I changed my hairstyle about 3-5 times throughout our trials up until the actual wedding day and she was so accommodating and understanding. Michelle is fantastic! I was lucky to have her do my hair for both my wedding day and another wedding banquet celebration a few days later. I also had another trial session with her before, and she totally nailed the hairstyles on all 3 days. She is super talented and the end result will be just as great as you hoped for. We did 3 styles together: a half-up hairstyle, a full updo, as well as curls with volume. She will listen to what you want and make any adjustments that you prefer. I just recently got my wedding photos back from my photographer, and it's been so fun to relive our big day from last October. Michelle is a hair whisperer. I have no idea how to do my hair and wasn't 100% sure what I wanted, but she was able to take my hand gestures and vague ideas and turn it into the most beautiful wedding hair. She really worked with me to make sure it was exactly what I wanted, and she was also incredibly patient and sweet about how scattered I was during wedding planning. The hair trial went so smoothly that I wasn't worried about the day-of at all--even though I waffled last-minute on whether to keep my hair up or down! What I didn't expect was the unbelievable amount of care and concern she had for me as a bride on my wedding day. As soon as I booked Michelle, I was immediately impressed by her responsiveness and professionalism. She is super organized and knows exactly what to prepare for from beginning to end. Michelle even found a makeup artist for me and booked the both of them together as a package so I only had to deal with one point of contact. Michelle is amazing! It was supposed to be a pregnant friend who was going to fix my hair, but 2 days before the big day, the baby was not having any of it so I had an emergency situation. Michelle saved my big day, despite coming with little notice and without a trial run and just made magic happen. She listened to my hair aches and pains, such as having an abundant amount of thick straight stubborn hair, where it can't be too high because my hair gets heavy and I get a huge headache, I have layered hair so braids may look messy, it usually isn't able to keep curls (thus thick and stubborn hair), I'm wearing a veil for part of the ceremony and then I want to take it off (so it has to adapt to both situations), and I want a few hairs to stay down to frame my round face. She also looked at my dress and veil to consider the whole look. Also, I couldn't decide on my hairstyle, even after looking at examples, mostly because hair on one person can look completely different on another person. So I came with some challenges, but Michelle handled it with grace and professionalism. My hair was beautiful. I loved every curl she did. My hair didn't squeeze my skull, so no headaches. You have to find someone who is reliable, consultative, punctual, and can look at a picture and execute it perfectly on their first try on an unknown head of hair. She is so versatile and works with you to create the look that you envision (or even if you just have a rough idea!); you can see the range of styles that she's done on Yelp, Facebook, and her website. And to top it all off, she is such a sweetheart! She did my wedding hair trial and wedding day hair. Not to brag, but she made my hair look SO GOOD. Starting with my first email communication with her, I knew that she'd be wonderful to work with. She was always available to answer any of my questions, even before I decided to work with her officially. And once I booked her, I never looked back. At my trial, we tried 2 different hair styles based on my different photo inspirations. One of them didn't feel like me. I liked the other one however, I really felt that we needed some adjustments in volume to make it work on the wedding day. I chatted with Michelle about all my concerns, and she was so great at assuring me that she'll make some additional changes and allot extra time on my wedding day to ensure that we get it right. Michelle is also extremely organized, for all those brides (like myself) that love having everything about the scheduled nail down to the minute! About 3 or 4 weeks before the wedding, she reached out to me and Julie Dy (my makeup artist) to start coming up with a hair and makeup schedule since we had 7 women total (including me). She also was thoughtful to leave some time in between each of the women so that we'd still be ok on time even if we ran over a bit. Day of the wedding, she and her assistant, Danielle, arrived a bit earlier to prep, and the rest of the day went off without a hitch! All those concerns I had from my trial? All out the window! I had a hair trial with her in her studio and she was super patient trying 3 hair styles on me based on my feedback. After that, she sent me all the trial pictures and followed up for more feedback. In addition to all my natural hair, I also added extensions for my wedding day. Michelle did a great job handling my hair through multiple trials as I was very fickle about what I wanted! She was relaxed, patient, flexible and nice! I was really, really, happy with the results on my wedding day. Since I live far away I was hoping to not do a trial but ultimately am very glad that I did - to get to meet Michelle ahead of time but also because trying out hairstyles on your own hair is helpful before the wedding day- what looks good in a picture doesn't always look the same on you, so I am glad I did the trial in the end. All of my bridesmaids also showed her pictures the morning of and were wowed by how amazingly on point the styles were compared to the pictures they showed. Michelle is amazing! She went above and beyond anything I had ever imagined. Let me start off with how difficult my hair is. It's thick, frizzy, and my bangs like to split into 2. And to top it off, my skin is allergic to a lot of hair products. Oh yeah, and I live on a humid island known as Oahu. I know, I don't know I manage to leave the house everyday. But Michelle was able to tame the beast and produced the best hair day of my life. Michelle is a hair genius! I have very thick, coarse hair which makes it very challenging to get a tight style done. Wow! I could not be MORE pleased and enthused with how my hair turned out! I was performing for a concert event in SF, and I wanted to look great on stage. A few of my band mates and I decided to book Michelle to style our hair before the show. We had booked our appointment late in the evening since we were not going to go on stage until after 10:30pm. It was really awesome that she was able to accommodate us, since a typical salon would usually not be able to do that. Michelle was super organized, and very responsive in corresponding with us. As always, our sound check ran a lot longer than expected so we were late to our appointment. Michelle is the best hair stylist ever! I was lucky to have her do my hair for my wedding. I actually had 2 hair trials with her and from the first one I could tell she was the real deal. She did exactly what I wanted, which was side swept bangs with a big bun in the back. (I showed her a picture earlier and what she did looked exactly like the picture.) The most amazing thing was that she made it look like I had double the hair I actually had. The bun in the back was beautiful! It didn't look like a bird's nest, which was what happened at my hair trial with another hair stylist. Michelle just knew exactly what she was doing. My best friend hired Michelle to do my hair this past January. I was getting married in San Francisco's stunning City Hall on the mayors balcony by the honorable Gavin Newsom. Michelle was absolutely a pleasure to work with! Amazing job! Michelle was fantastic and so talented!
