The ready food display has so many Mediterranean treats, some I've had before some I've never heard of and everything I tried was amazing. We got the cabbage rolls and Armenian veggie dolmas. Great flavor, both specific items I haven't had before. Nice citrus, spiced flavor to these. I'd say they're have to try items. Not only found jarred tomato paste, which I've been on the hunt for but they had choices in this category and that's another first for me. Will have to go back and try the others. Also got the cured Serrano ham -amazing. And I thought the prices were going to be insane having a spot right in the middle of the city and nope- pleasantly surprised for my goodies, great prices even less than some of the other stores I frequent in the suburbs. Twice I slipped in this Store, fell on my back, and was unable to get up for More than 10 minutes…read more The first time, not too long ago, before the store was shut down for bankruptcy, I reached down to pick up the basket around the "Customer Service Counter " and slipped because the floor was wet. The second time, the fall was again because the floor was wet from a water drip while an employee was stacking food in the upright freezer. The fall was worse; my right leg became stiff, and I could not move. Asked the employee to call 911, who came and helped me walk to my car. HERE ARE SOME SAFETY SUGGESTIONS FOR THE CUSTOMERS. 1. Watch out for any dampness on the floor; alert the staff to mop the area. This store does not seem to have adequate staff to constantly monitor safety issues and take immediate "Corrective Action". If they do, they huddle around the office area. 2. Avoid baskets and use only shopping carts. The cart will provide support against any potential slips. Do not leave carts unattended. 3. Don't keep the upright freezer open too long. This will minimize condensation, maintain the require temprature range, and help food shelf life. You need to exercise your civic awareness. 4. Be very careful around the Produce Section. This is one area prone to having a wet floor. 5. Don't instinctively lift a fallen person unless he or she asks you to help. Let a professional Paramedic (911) handle it. 6. I will bring it to the attention of the City of Houston to request to carry out a diligent inspection.

The male owner was helpful, but acted as if I was a lot younger than my age and treated me like I was ignorant. I couldn't find the sweet Indian snack, but I did find something a lot better. When I started my associates degree I would come here too since Houston Community College is right across the street from it. I am happy to see that this small grocery store is still standing. Although this grocery store is small, it carries a variety of products. It has poke bowls, rice bowls, sushi, and bento boxes for you in case you do not have time to prepare a meal. Nippon Daido also carries a large variety of beverages that are very known in Japan. They also carry different kinds of beer from Japan and sake as well. Everyone is obsessed with matcha right now and I saw they had a different variety of matcha. I myself am a fan of tea. Theu even have different kinds of tea that I hope to try all of them one day. If you are not a fan of tea, I also noticed they had different kinds of coffee. This grocery store also carries a good variety of Japanese candy. We have all seen and heard about the different kinds of KitKat, well, this place carries them. I ended up buying the milk tea KitKat and it a nice delight of a flavor. I noticed that this place carries stuff to do hot pot and barbeque items in the frozen section. Japanese ice cream is carried too like taiyaki vanilla ice cream and red bean ice cream. I myself am a big fan of Kirby and noticed they had a Kirby cup. As much as I wanted to buy it, I had to pass up on it today since I own too many Kirby items. They also carried some Sanrio items but a lot of kitchenware without any design. What I like about this grocery store is the fact they had origami paper and Japanese notebook if you wanted to practice writing in hiragana or katakana. I used to buy those notebooks when I was practicing learning how to write and understand Japanese. In the same section they had very adorable toothpicks to make your own bento box. Something new I saw was that this grocery store has its own little sweet shop called Sweets Oyatsu. I tried the strawberry matcha latte and from I am seeing their famously own strawberry mochi. When I tell you the strawberry mochi is to die for! It has a very sweet flavor coming from the strawberry itself with a hint of sweet red bean. The chewiness of the mochi made the experience even better. The strawberry matcha latte was pretty good. You could really taste the sweetness of the strawberry and the slight bitterness of the matcha. I grew up in Alief my whole life. Nippon Daido is a hidden gem that Alief has in Houston. This small grocery store really brings the Japanese culture closer to home. I always like supporting small local businesses and as much as I do not visit this area anymore. After making a purchase, my mother who had just traveled internationally for nearly 24 hours to visit me wanted to buy another bag as a gift for friends back home. We waited in line again, but the cashier refused the sale because they recognized us from our earlier purchase. However, we saw other customers rejoin the line and purchase additional bags without issue. There were no signs explaining this policy, and it appeared to be enforced only against us. As Asian customers, this left us feeling singled out and questioning whether discrimination played a role in how we were treated. What made the experience even more upsetting was the way we were spoken to. The employee's attitude felt rude and accusatory, as if we were doing something wrong or trying to steal, when we had simply followed the same process as other customers and spent a significant amount of money in the store. We left feeling embarrassed, upset, and unwelcome. I would appreciate an explanation as to why the policy was applied differently to us than to other customers.
