As time was running out, I turned to Google, and 4Structures came up with a very helpful article on the topic. I called the number on their site late in the day, and John Darer picked up directly. He was about to board a plane, but I explained the situation briefly, and he said he was pretty sure he knew the answer, but he'd do a little extra research to confirm while he was on the plane (via wifi), and would call me back after he landed, later in the evening (well after normal work hours!) Sure enough, John called back as promised, and had a very clear answer and plan of attack for the issue moving forward. We solved the problem very soon after that. Whoever is running this business should be ashamed of themselves. My mother passed a number of…read moreyears ago. Her very simple estate was all "transfer on death" (so, not in probate) except for one account. These vultures used free court records to find her name and the names of all family members listed as alternate executors, and have been sending all of us scam letters since her death, claiming that my mother's estate is "currently tied up in probate court" and that we are all heirs (if we just pay Advance Probate via "flexible funding options.") Absolute crap. The estate was settled years ago. None of these family members (except me and my sibling) were heirs. I had to explain this to my elderly aunt and a cousin, who received these scam letters. Absolutely mortifying. Also, the letters say that "Advance Probate" is a "BBB A+ Rated Accredited Business." The Better Business Bureau says it is not. And you might notice, there's no address listed on the letters. Just a phone #. Stay away. Don't get scammed.
