As first time home buyers, we were not sure how to decide about the condition of the house, beyond what we could 'see'. He was passionate and did a job as if he were buying the house. Having recently been scammed by another inspector on the same property, we knew what bad looked like. And John was on the exact opposite end of the spectrum. Trust him to give you an honest, expert and professional review of the house before you make a call. We actually decided not to buy the house as we learnt about the structural issues in the house - we would've been stuck with a lemon if not for John.

What I appreciated most was how straightforward and easy Ron was to work with. He provided the information I needed without making minor issues seem bigger than they were, while still making sure nothing important was overlooked. That kind of practical, experienced perspective is extremely valuable when you're making a major purchase. I would highly recommend Ron and Brick & Mortar to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, thorough, and dependable home inspector. As first time homebuyers we were unfamiliar with the process, but he gave us incredibly detailed reports with pictures and recommendations for each area of the house. There were some things he could not complete on the first day (no fault of his own) and he graciously didn't charge us for them until he completed the job another day. I'd highly recommend this company. Ricardo went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of, especially given the price point.

He walked us through all of the services he provides and the cost and answered all of our questions in detail. Other inspectors gave very brief descriptions of services provided, so we felt more comfortable going with Phil. We had the general inspection, wood destroying insect, radon, sewer camera, and oil tank sweep all done through Phil. On the day of the inspection, we were half an hour early but Phil was already there looking at the exterior of the house. He explained his process and invited us to shadow him and ask questions about anything we didn't understand. He was very detailed in his inspection, and took the time to explain to us any issues that needed immediate attention. The inspection lasted almost 4 hours, which I guess is uncommon because both real estate agents thought it would only take 2 hours. We closed on the house last week and have used the report a number of times when hiring contractors. Phil pointed out some structural issues in the basement which we are now getting fixed, and are slowly working through the rest of the items in his report. His detailed report makes it easy for us to send to other contractors so they know the scope of the issue. We would highly recommend Phil for any first time homebuyer with lots of questions about their new house!

In my case, Parisen Associates saved my bottom...and over $470,000...on a purchase I almost made. I came across a deal that I honestly thought was a great one. The building looked great, freshly painted and renovated. Nice upscale kitchen and bathroom remodeling, etc. The house was like something out of a TV commercial, if you know what I mean. The neighborhood was a good one and everything about it seemed like a go to me. I was excited about this purchase. I hired Parisen Associates because I felt it was just part of the process, not thinking anything was wrong. Well, Dave Parisen showed up...on time...which is great to see for starters. He did a thorough inspection and spotted foundation damage that had been hidden (to my amateur eyes, anyway). I'm talking damage that would have cost me the better part of my savings to fix. Not sure why this damage hadn't been fixed by the owners before the sale...maybe they just ran out of money investing in upscale kitchen appliances, who knows. There were other things wrong with the building as well, mostly annoying electrical things that could have been a hazard, let alone expensive to fix (I'm not much of a handy person and hire out most of my work). Parisen's report was thorough and down-to-earth. All in all, while I was really depressed about my failed purchase, I am grateful Parisen Associates discovered the hidden problems before it was too late. It could have been a disaster. I really recommend these folks and will use their service again when my new perfect house comes along.

Michael provides a super thorough inspection and pays attention even to the smallest details. He points out loose stones in the stairs, narrow parking spots that claim to fit more cars than it is realistically possible, stair handles placed uncomfortably, among other things. He also points out important things that are done not up to code and can cause serious issues down the line. It is a responsibility of a buyer to evaluate the findings and apply them, whether in negotiations with the seller, or just for your own reference later to understand what requires fixing and how urgent it is. And knowing that in advance, I think I received a superior service, because thanks to Michael, not only I received a concession from a buyer to fix an improperly installed, though working, garage door, but also avoided troubles with insurance company later by requesting asbestos removal and obtaining corresponding certificate. Michael's commission may be a bit higher than the market, but it's well worth it.
