It's a small supermarket in the capital on the sea front and across from where our ship docked. Our ship docked at 7am and was in port two days so day 2 we waited a few hours before we got off to let it get to 20c.
It's a small yet well stocked place with table seating outside as they made and served savoury and sweet food all day. Freshly squeezed orange, a sandwich and a coffee was about seven euro.
Our purpose was tarts. I do like a tart. We got two menu deal no 1 a coffee and a pastel de nata tart. It was €1.19 so each coffee and tart was £1 as I had bought euro with Revolut.
The staff were real friendly and although busy we didn't wait long to be served with a smile.
We sat outside in warm sunshine a while and watched the world go by. Then we bought 4 pastel to go for 65 pence each. As our ship departed we settled back with a cappuccino and a pastel facing into 6 days at sea. This is day 4 and it's 27c.
We also bought crisps and chocolate for some of the crew as a thank you.
A few footnotes, first the Azores has a traditional bread almost identical to Irish soda farl but not as dense. It's delicious and there are a lot of beggars who pester for just a small island. read more
