Typrowicz Painting

Typrowicz Painting

I met James Typrowicz during a real estate transact as my wife and I had just relocated from the…read moreWest Coast to Suffield CT. We had an offer in on a 2600 sq./ft. house and realized after the home inspection there were issues with the ceilings on the first floor. While the issue was purely cosmetic, we decided it needed to be addressed prior to our moving in. When the house was built much of the tape on the ceiling was installed incorrectly. In many areas you could see the tape on the ceiling was not flat or covered with mud, and was separating from the sheetrock. This situation was not acceptable for a home we were about to move into. James recommended removing the acoustic material from all the ceilings and sanding them smooth before painting. The entire oversized 2-car garage needed taping and painting as well. While I'm not a contractor my profession has put me close to the construction industry. While in California I had contacts with contractors covering various residential trades. Once we relocated I had none, this was a problem for me as I have high standards when it comes to the quality of work being done in my home. This was where James and his crew came in. We had a short time to close escrow, to compound matters, we had been on the road in our RV for nearly a month, and were currently living with relatives as we shopped for a new home, we were ready to move ASAP. We were referred to James by the seller's real estate agent, this in itself did not instill our confidence in him since we figured the seller would do most anything to keep the sale moving forward. Our confidence was boosted when our real estate agent had good things to say about some of James' work he had seen in other homes on the market. With that we decided to give him the job. James would not be able to get to our project for at least two weeks, then it would take 1-1/2 weeks to complete. Considering the amount of work to be undertaken we thought the timeframe was rather ambitious. To get a better idea about where James was coming from I had a conversation with him about his background and experience. James is a local guy who grew up in Southwick MA, and now resides close by in Feeding Hills MA. He and his crew of three long-time employees cover a large geographical area for his clients (commercial, industrial and residential) taking care of painting, wallpaper, and sheetrock needs. Over the past 25 years James has seen pretty much everything from the best quality work to the worst quality work performed by others. In 2000 he decided to open his own business. Since then he has worked hard to maintain the high standards his clients expect. No sooner had we closed escrow and we got a call from James telling us that he had finished all the other jobs he and his guys had been working on and they were ready to jump on our project and hit it hard. We were still concerned about the timeframe but James seemed to be a man of his word so I put my faith in him doing what he said he would do. To complicate matters, they started the job on Monday the week before Christmas. To our surprise they finished the job five days later on the Saturday before Christmas. Upon final inspection all the tape joints were now well hidden, the ceilings were flat and smooth, and the cut-ins where the paint from the walls met the ceilings were as straight as could be. Not only were we very happy with the quality of the work we could not believe how clean his guys left the house when they were through. Now mind you, these guys sanded the ceilings in every room on the first floor of the house, if you have ever had this kind of work done you know just how much of a mess this can make with fine dust finding its way into every nook and cranny imaginable. I (Mr. High Standards and basically a P.I.T.A.) was blown away by how little dust could be found anywhere. Sure we had a little vacuuming and wiping down to do, but nothing like what we had expected. We really thought we were going to have hire a cleaning crew to spend the day at the house but that was imply not the case. Not only did James and his crew delivery everything he said they would, they started on time and finished far sooner than expected, all with no additional upcharges! We have a couple of things that need painting on the outside of the house and you can bet your last dollar come spring James is going to be one of the first people we call. I know this review sounds too good to be true but fact is fact and based on the service we received from James the least I could do let others know what a great experience we had with him and his top-notch crew. I don't write that many reviews but when I do they are for people and companies that I really believe in, James Typrowicz is one of those people.

Bumps from nails and sheetrock tape simply painted over rather than sanded and wiped down first. Brand new expensive ceiling fan - so full of plaster dust that it spews the dust out of motor onto the fan blades even after 2 cleanings. Plaster dust throughout the new radiator fins, all over the closet wire shelving, thermostat, etc. Many sags in the paint, and one baseboard that is only primed or painted in flat vs semi gloss, and is now a fuzz-under-paint mistake. Doors had to be re-purchased 3 times because he couldn't get the stain right, and I had to buy the fourth set of doors--pre-painted. Then, this painter wanted to spray paint the finish coats, in my newly-built room! (Dead winter, no ventilation, no spray booth). Ridiculous! This is in new construction and several times they have been made to redo it by the general contractor. Not satisfied at all. Plus, the owner kept blaming the general contractor and the drywall company for painting mistakes. This was a custom construction job through Barron and Jacobs in Northampton, MA, using Bergeron Drywall and ProGreen Painters of Agawam UPDATE: For the painting of those 3 rooms (2 small bathrooms and one medium bedroom and a closet) The painter and builder tried to charge me over $4,000! This was on an allowance/actual basis and the original allowance was very high at $1,200, but they tried to kick me with a huge increase. Wouldn't use either company in the future.

They got spray on many of my windows and screens. There were woodpecker holes on the west side of the house that they were suppose to fill in and sand before painting. They slapped putty on the holes which shriveled up and sunk in as it dried which they needed to refill and sand but did neither and just sprayed over it. I told Mike I wanted the exterior doors the same color they were but didn't have the color or paint can. He said he could match it, no problem. The door color they painted on 3 of the 4 doors were very different than their original color and didn't bother to do the 4th exterior door. The interior room and 2 of the interior doors were all the same color with the walls being a flat and the doors with a gloss finish. They somehow managed to mix the paints so some of the walls have flat and gloss on them. I got a call saying they were done and wanted final payment and I asked Mike to come look at my house with me. The only thing I said was for him to look at the job and tell me what he thought of it. His reply was he would send back his best crew. They didn't do much better. I ended up cleaning the windows and screens the best i could and the paint started peeling right around the one year mark. From now on, when having a contractor, I will be home to make sure the work is done properly. I guess perhaps I should have done my homework better on this company. Would never recommend them to anyone.
