Everything was good. Solid food and service either ambiance you would expect in what I would consider family friendly. Visited a couple of times when my husband and I didn't feel like cooking but wanted something of substance rather than cheese and crackers or whatever else might require little to no effort. Each time we left feeling we had made the right decision. We also visited with friends just for a drink. It would definitely of become our local. However we moved out of the area. I love this place. For some reason I decided, without knowing anything about it, that I would come here for lunch before watching a football match at the Gabba, and I must say I was impressed. They have some of the cheapest meals that I have seen - in fact they have an entire menu of meals for only $10.00, which is an absolute bargain. Mind you, you don't get the deals in the actual restaurant, and it seems as if everybody knows about this place because it was pretty packed when I came here. The area out the back is awesome - they have a huge screen where you can watch football - and real football at that (I'm talking about AFL), and they have a really nice view of a park, though the park actually isn't that fantastic. Man, has this place had a face lift! Like many of Brisbane's old, dodgy pubs the Pineapple Hotel has been tarted up, ready to face a new affluent populace with plenty of glass and polished wood flooring. It's not a bad move actually, it's a much more welcoming venue for a drink or a meal now. There's a good mix of booths and bar style tables to sit at, and the open terrace is a great spot to cool down on a summer night. Families are well catered for with a play ground and child friendly weekend activities. I always find this a bit bizarre at a pub but as the Pineapple Hotel is more a steak house now I'll let it slide. The steaks aren't cheap but they're damn good, and that's always worth the money in my book. Ditto for the burgers. read more

I joined one of these meet-up places where we talk about online SEO stuff, information which is helpful to online business. Where we go to 'meet up' is at the Pineapple Hotel. I didn't grow up in Brisbane, so this place was never part of my cultural awakening onto the Brisbane scene. I just used to drive past it heaps. When I first walked into the open planned eating area, which I believe is referred to as Park Bar, I was quite blown away with its views and contemporary design. I liked it and I instantly became a fan. Of course, I was purely judging its appearance. I had to try the food. It was a Thursday and I ordered the Steak & Chips and paid only $10 for it. Bargain! The food arrived soon after and it was cooked quite good. For ten bucks, I wasn't expecting to taste as good as it did. However, it did have a bit too much fatty bits for my liking. Despite that, it was all good. After our meal was done, the rest of the Meet Up crew were starting to arrive so we all shifted to one of the private rooms to have our meeting and discussions. Fortunately for the Meet Up crew, but unfortunately for us, it was quite cramped in there. Not enough tables. I guess they weren't prepared for our large group of Meet Ups. The Pineapple Hotel is a place that's looked down upon by Brisbane's hipper, younger clubbing crowd. This is more of a generic pub than many of Brisbane's pub-cum-bars. As a result, the age range and clientele demographic varies here. Since there's a mixed crowd here, "The Piney" fails to be completely overrun by young yobbo drunks. (That's not to mean there's no sleazebags here; it's a pub.) Ten years ago yobbo activity was evenly split between sleazing and punching, until eventually The Pineapple Hotel underwent a refurbishment and tried to foster a more cultivated vibe. It wasn't entirely successful. A few months ago The Pineapple Hotel underwent another, much more minor refurbishment via including an outdoor section in the inside. This hasn't failed to really get the numbers going here on Friday or Saturday nights, however, when The Piney's been shutting up at around 11pm at the main bar because no one's there. There are signs of big cutbacks here - no more bands, no more Tuffy (a Brisbane performer who reminds me of the drunk uncle at a wedding) and no more decent 2-for-1 meals. As to meal quality, it's hit and miss: sometimes delicious, sometimes bland, based entirely on who's cooking that night. read more

The Pineapple Hotel. A bit of a difficult one to rate, this is a place that we had driven past quite a number of times and thought about visiting. It's a good looking venue, and always looks busy from the outside. So, how did it stack up? Venue? Great. Service? Fantastic. Friendly, helpful, professional. Presentation of food? Excellent. Prices? Pretty standard for this sort of establishment (about $25-30 per main). Quality of food? Hmm. Below average. I had a special for Good Food Month, which was a Seared Duck Breast, and my wife had a Lamb Shank. The duck serving was tiny, entre sized even, and wasn't particularly tasty. The lamb was tasteless, with poor texture. Mash and spinach were good, but the lamb was a total disappointment. Overall, a disappointment, which is a shame because the rest of the experience was very good. read more

Unbelievably bad. From a 6:30 ordering time until 9:00 when our last diner finished eating because food just wasn't brought out to the table. 1 hour to get food in a restaurant barely a third full. One of our group was just starting on her meal when the rest were finished. Orders were wrong: the waitress admitted the kitchen didn't even know what the menu was. No dressing on the tasteless Vietnamese salad, waitress brought out a thimble-full of olive oil after we complained. Lettuce in one salad was basically rotten. $8.50 for two prawns. Literally. Two prawns. The waitresses were... incompetent mostly. The heartfelt plea to forgive them was basically just a list of things they had messed up for everyone in the place all night, phrased as some sort of explanation? We know your restaurant is rubbish. Just listing the reasons isn't an explanation! They bribed us with a free round of drinks which also took 20 minutes to arrive! So nice to have a beer with your dessert. A shit experience all around and we won't be going back after a decade or more of visiting a few times a year. This place has died in the arse - unless you want to booze up with fat old geezers betting on the greyhounds. Too expensive for such ridiculously bad food and service. Basil Fawlty would have a hard time doing worse. read more

The worst pub feed I have ever had. All three meals were cold and tasted like a old thong

At the beginning of this June, I dropped in at the Pineapple Hotel in Kangaroo Point. The main purpose was to retreat from the endless soul-destroying study of the first semester, by watching Queensland's sporting blockbuster, the "State of Origin". Despite my ill-grounded negative expectation, the quality was not that bad in the end, though some of my fears came true. This is not a must-visit place but it is still not-bad to go casually. A modern complex to drink, dine-in and watch sports. It is easy to find a traditional hotel on the main street of this historical precinct. These sorts of hotels are often dominated by pokies and sport bets, cramped at the edge of a slightly dark room, and filled with stinky alcoholics. It is not an adequate place to dine-in or to enjoy watching sport. I thought this hotel would also be this kind of nasty pub. However, I was completely taken aback by their well-organized system. The format of the hotel is a combination of both food- and liquor-related businesses: a traditional British style pub, a generous steak house, small liquor store and a stylish modern sports bar with high ceiling. Ultimately, you can enjoy everything from dining in with your family to watching sports and betting with the other punters. The destination is not for a gourmet There are various decent brews and wines in the pub and the wide range of beers and spirits is not bad. However, I did not find that the meals they served were perfect. If I was to categorize the menu, it would be classified as fast food. The items available are nothing special and follow quite traditional recipes. The served Chicken Parmigiana that I ordered was partially burnt. The cooking staff's attention was on the maroon jerseys on the screen instead of the frying pan. For better or worse, the complex is primarily designed for drinking along with watching sports, chatting or betting in the company of your friends or colleagues. Reasonable price... maybe Basically, the range of prices is reasonable and acceptable when you take into consideration that you will enjoy watching sports, chatting or drinking in cozy room. In my opinion, you should check the website before you go because they offer some specials at lunch time as well as in the evening service hours. However, nowadays almost every pub provides these sorts of specials so you may do not think these are very "special" any more. In the end, I had fun time there, except when Queensland lost the match! If you want to enjoy a reasonable meal and atmosphere, without going all the way to the CBD, it's not that bad. read more

Went for the $10 lunch special. So gross. Got the caesar salad. Consisted of cos lettuce in clumps (nobody pulled the leaves apart) and mainly stalk, a ice cold egg (as in clearly out of the fridge rather than made fresh), clumps of dressing over the top rather than dressed properly, and a stingy serving of prosciutto and croutons. I've been to many an occasion at the Pineapple Hotel or as Brisvegans call it 'The Piney' over the years but since the refurb the Piney is a better option for lunch than it is for drinks or evenings out. Located on Main Street between Woolloongabba and Kangaroo Point it's a bit out of the way for 'public transport' and the onsite parking is barely enough for a 7'11 convenience store (ie not enough). If you're lucky to find a park on the street then an Summer afternoon spent on the verandah overlooking the park in the park bar is not a bad way to pass time. The Piney also does some great specials for lunch which usually run about $10. They also do some really great food if you want to have a function, with a lovely BIG function room upstairs (perfect for work drinks etc). It is a pub so don't expect a full fantastic restaurant but it's not a bad option for drinks, casual meal or a catch up with friends. read more

Firstly, about 20 minutes after I ordered my meal and was handed a buzzer, I went to the kithen to enquire about my meal and there it was sitting onder the heat lights. No idea how long it had been there as there were about 5 people in the park bar and it was clearly warm, i.e. had been sitting there for a while. I paid $35 for a Rib Fillet and have strong doubts that was what I received and whatever it was was cooked terribly. I have had better $10 steaks in a front bar. To top it off, I ordered a can of coke with a glass of ice and was handed a glass of post mix. Terrible meal Saturday night. Slow cooked pork ribs were dry and fatty and tasted disgusting. Not what the menu said as they were braised not slow cooked. Bar staff in the restaurant had a terrible attitude when you ordered drinks. Restaurant manager wasn't apologetic about the meal and defended the cook. Very poor customer service. Never going back never ever. Waste of money. Oh and by he way don't by the pavlova dessert a 5 year old could have made a better pav! read more
