We built with MJC and had to go to Pine Tree to select the lighting for our entire house. Brad was rude and impatient during the process, but we didn't have much choice in the matter so we got through the appointment and moved on. The light fixtures look fine but they all have different sized LED bulbs, many of which have burnt out ridiculously fast (starting just a few months after install and continuing every month or so until now a couple years later). It's been a giant pain to find matching bulbs and replace them constantly, not to mention the additional cost of so many bulbs. We also had a can light go out and they came out to replace it, which was appreciated, except they put a different size up which left a ring visible around the outside of it - when I pointed it out, he just shrugged it off. The icing on the cake of problems was the coach lights we initially ordered for the garage. The style coach light we chose covered our address block, despite them coming to the house for a walkthrough to re-familiarize themselves with the layout before the light selection appointment. Accidents happen, but we were then forced to spend even more money on alternate lights to rectify the problem they should have prevented and guided us through. I would never recommend this company to anyone ever. read more

Just had an extremely positive experience at Pine Tree. They supplied the lighting fixtures for our subdivision house built a few years ago. A light cover was broken yesterday. I called them just now and talked to Sara K. She was very friendly and seemed to know everything about their business and was the perfect person to talk to. I confirmed with her that Pine Tree was indeed the supplier, she looked up my sub and lot number and could see the exact fixtures I ordered. I sent her a photo of the light and confirmed we were talking about the same light. She is ordering a replacement glass from *their* supplier for me free of charge, shipped to my house. I connected with Pine Tree, got through immediately to the right person, explained my situation, got it resolved satisfactorily all in less than 30 minutes. Last time we'll ever visit this establishment was today. Been in Lake Orion a long time, and over the years have had occasion/need to shop at Pine Tree. EVERY single time I've left feeling like I was doing them a favor by shopping there. Staff is consistently rude and condescending, and not friendly or even very helpful. Maybe I'm not the "target audience", and that's ok.. but my money is still green and my credit is good. I was looking for replacements for two lighting fixtures in our kitchen over the sink. We want it to be very bright for the sink and adjacent countertop work areas. Pine Tree Lighting did all of our lighting fixtures when we rebuilt our house so when I explained what we were looking for they were already familiar with what we have for existing fixtures. They showed me several options including a simple flood lamp design with LED bulbs that would be rather inconspicuous yet provide plenty of light to the sink and work areas. Also it won't detract from our centerpiece fixture over the island. The price was very reasonable so I placed the order and put down a deposit. I also arranged for the installation once the fixtures come in. We are really looking forward to brightening our days...and nights! read more

My wife and I recently relocated to Michigan and were recommended Pine Tree by some local friends. The store was busy when we went (Saturday) and after browsing for 15 minutes, we were approached by a sales associate named Diane. Diane walked us around to get a feel for our tastes and then sat down with us to dig a little deeper in their catalogs. She did an excellent job of listening to what we liked and advising us on a variety of options that suited our style. We didn't want to have everything the same "family", but preferred to have fixtures that worked together well. We ended up purchasing kitchen, island and dining room lighting, all in the form of chandeliers. Our experience at Pine Tree was 5-star all the way. Diane even threw in a few free bulbs so we could decide if wanted to go with LED or incandescent candelabra's for the chandeliers. read more

They sold me a rather expensive lamp but the electrician they recommended was not able to install it because of the nature of the wiring in our home (nor were others). This was after a 3 week delay in delivering the lamp. When I went to return it they asked for a 25% restocking fee, which would have been a considerable fee given the high cost of the lamp. Everyone disappeared, I guess they all went out to lunch except two older women that shut themselves in an office right in front of me(with glass doors, awkward) I was pretty much brushed off and ignored. We built a home with Hunter Pasteur and like others we got horrible customer service from a salesman named Mike. He was so incredibly rude and condescending when I tried to explain what I was looking for. Before, I could even finish a sentence, he would say, "let me guess, you want it covered in crystal?" It was so incredibly rude. Then he was snickering the entire time my husband and I were talking to him. We still don't know what was so funny. Ordered lights from PTL. Called salesperson well after they were supposed to have arrived in store. Salesperson said, oops - lights backordered. Seemed more likely the order was never placed. Lights came in a month later. Went to pick them up. Stood around in showroom with no acknowledgement from anybody in the place. We tracked down a manager who had someone come out of the back room. Paid bill with credit card. Double charged, PTL said due to new credit card chip technology (NEVER happened to us before or since). Several phone calls to bank and PTL later, duplicate charges finally resolved. We find this situation really sad. We try to support local brick and mortar retailers for obvious reasons. We have worked with PTL in the past and the experience had been fine. However, it seems as if something has changed here. Attitude towards customer service seems to be all but non-existent. It will be another retailer in the future. This series of experiences at PTL makes online ordering seem so much more palatable. So long PTL. Hope you figure it out before it's too late. read more

Our builder had recommended Pine Tree, and we were initially very pleased with their selection and the shopping experience overall. Despite a very good first impression things progressively got worse as their follow-up has been absolutely abysmal. After ordering all of our fixtures and making a down payment we did not hear from our salesperson for over a week (after being told that we would receive a call from her within two days to inform us if one of our selections was in stock or would need to be replaced). After calling her she did finalize our order and everything arrived satisfactorily with the exception of one broken fixture. Attempts at having this fixture replaced have been shockingly difficult. The first solution was to order replacement glass, but again the saleperson ordering the glass NEVER gave us an update and only after repeated calls to her did the glass finally arrive. The glass they sent was not the correct shape/size and could not be used in the fixture. They did order us a new fixture, but the same lack of follow-up continues to be experienced. Calls are not returned promptly, and almost every time an update is promised days go by until we are forced to call the store to find out the status of our order. Overall, the place has an excellent selection and the salesperson we worked with was very easy to deal with while we were in the store, but if you go to Pine tree just know that you will be all but totally abandoned as a customer after they receive your money. Our initial order arrived promptly, but the near total lack of communication soured our experience with them and to date the issue remains unresolved. read more

Stopped in today for a drum shade for a chandelier I purchased online and to browse the store for other rooms we need to furnish lights for in our home. NEVER have I been treated so rudely by a 'salesperson' in my life! When asked if I could order a drum shade, I was abruptly told, "NOONE sells drum shades by themselves. They are sold as part of a chandelier set. It is good to support LOCAL BUSINESSES!" Really? I thought that was what I was there to do! I retorted with that comment and turned around to leave. Pssttt, with attitude like that, I will continue to purchase online and more than likely from the same Chinese distributors that they get their merch from. Here's a word of advice, STEER CLEAR of this place unless you like being treated like a second-rate citizen! This place is terrible! Dirty, dark and sales people have an attitude. We went there today to purchase fans and lighting. YUCK... So packed with merchandise that you can't focus on what you went in to purchase. VERY traditional offerings that look like grandma's attic should be cleaned and aired out. Built a house in South Lyon and this company was the lighting supplier. We met with the owner a few times and spent a lot of money upgrading the lights for our home. Some of the lights we purchased were not on display in the store so we were picking them from a picture in a catalog. When the lighting was installed, I was not happy with the lights in the kitchen. I was assured by the owner that it would be no problem to exchange these lights. Once we closed on the house though, he stopped responding to emails and we haven't heard from him since. read more

Had a salesman Mike a month or so back. He was incredibly rude, poor poor customer service. I don't know why they keep him. I told him about how we just built a house in West Bloomfield and I was looking for lighting and light fixtures for almost every room of the new house. He stated "oh, you're one of them?" And chuckled. One of them? I thought. I tried to brush the comment aside and continue to search for what I had in mind, considering I drove almost 45 minutes to get there. The whole time it was just snide comment after snide comment. Example, I was looking for a ceiling fan to go in our attic bar upstairs, he told me if that's what I'm looking for there's a Home Depot right down the street. What?! You're trying to send a good paying customer who is willing to drop thousands of dollars to a Home Depot? I got fed up with him and told him that I needed to leave. I have the benefit of not only buying lighting from this store; but my home (built in 2003) was fully outfitted by Pine Tree. When we purchased this home, the lighting was one of the standout features. To this day, we are asked what interior decorator selected our lighting. No problems of any kind. In the process of moving out-of-town and need to upgrade a few fixtures in our new home. Stopped by; granted they have ALOT on display; but it isnt overwhelming at all. We walked around for 20 mins just looking at all the merchandise and came to the service counter where all the magazines are located. Not one sales person asked us if we needed anything. I would buy lighting from Walmart before I came here again. In genereal the salespeople are rude. My husband and I worked with Dennis who was nice enough and no coplaints about him. We ordered lighting for our entire (new build) house in the first week of February. The first week of May we recived only partial. Had to call several times to get answers regarding a dinette light and a missing outdoor garage light. Just so happened the time i threatened to have all my lighting sent back the truck with my lights just pulled in. Scheduled for the next week to install. Installed the dinette light with missing parts. Was told PineTree would expedite the part to me that day. That was 5 weeks ago. I have been trying to reach a manager for days but apparently they are not in... EVER! I will say the quality of the lights are very good but not sure if it's worth the headache. read more
