I always give a convenience store a high mark when they have a large selection of energy drinks and waters that are hard to find (Perrier, Figi, Voss Springtime and Aqualibrium). These artesian mineral waters are better for us all than all these "purified" waters we find like Dasani and generic off-bands. Cigarettes were also under cost here at less than $4 a pack for both David and my different brands.

I took a seat and my server came with a smile. She asked if I spoke Spanish. I replied not really and she said she did not speak much English, but we managed to get my order with no issue. I went with four tacos and I loaded them st their salsa bar. The tacos were pretty good. I was debating giving it four stars, but everyone here was just so incredibly friendly that I had to elevate my score to five stars. I would definitely recommend El Chido.

Right out of the gate let's make one thing very clear...you've heard of a dive when referencing a bar or restaurant, well this is the convenience store equivalent of that. More stuff than what you'll find at a normal convenience store, but nothing like what you'll find at like a Walmart or places like that. They do have some staples, I'm guessing because they are in the middle of nowhere and then a few miles beyond ... so they make it so the folks that are in the area don't have to drive forever (plus a little more) to get to a n actual grocery store. Now, where they excel is in oddities. The one that stood out to me - Peach Mango Angry Orchard .... until seeing it here, didn't even know it existed. Just one example of the different stuff you'll find here. Oh, did I say they also have a full service food area - kind of like a publix - fried chicken and all the fixin's. Here I cannot fault Meat Candy - the meat was plenty good enough for a hot summer day's lunch. There's more to a barbecue restaurant, though, like sides and sauce. It's here Meat Candy falters, because they appear to have no time to deal with it. After placing your order with the terse lady in the window (to be fair, I wouldn't want to be in a black metal box in the middle of a parking lot during the hottest time of day, either), you get your pulled pork or ribs along with a couple of scoops of generic baked beans. You can then choose to pump some sauce on it from store-bought mass production barbecue sauces (though one of those was a mustard-based sauce, which is my preferred sauce and not easily found in the area) and find some place to eat. Or if you ordered the rib sandwich, a place to go sit down and start shredding the meat from your ribs to make enough trimmings to place on a bun without biting into bone. A rib sandwich doesn't really make much sense, when you think about it. Meat Candy sets up in the parking lot of a food court, which makes them by default better than the Popeye's and Taco Bell contained within. Compared to Montgomery's actual barbecue restaurants, though, they don't really compete.

I had been on the road for a couple of hours on my way to a rental cabin at Lake Martin and popped in for some road snacks and a Coke Zero. What I found was a surprisingly great selection of beer and wine, snacks, and a very nice employee...and a helpfully talkative customer. I grabbed a couple of six packs, a couple of bottles of wine, some beef sticks and tater chips, then loaded up and hit the road. If you are in the area and need provisions, I think that you'll either find what you need here or find a suitable substitute. Huge parking lot and a metric butt-load of gas pumps.
