Our family had a fantastic time at Pine Knob -- our first time visiting! We were visiting relatives in Michigan for the holidays, and elated to spend the day here. My three children took snowboarding and skiing lessons, and their instructors were fantastic. It was their first time snowboarding/skiing, and they loved it! We rented our equipment, and the entire rental/return process was smooth and easy. All of the staff we interacted with were courteous and helpful. We arrived at 9 AM and stayed until 5:30 PM -- definitely a wonderful and fun day. read more

Not impressed with this place at all. Everything is very old, they should definetly invest some $$ in modernization. Inside there is a musty smell that reminds me of school gym. The rental facility is a joke, they should be ashamed for taking money for some of the stuff. Skis have some damage and they were not sharp at all. Helmets were falling apart and boots are very old. I won't be renting any equipment from them anymore as it is terrible. I didn't had a chance to eat anything but I doubt they have anything vegan. Slopes are OK, mostly for the beginners but if you are an experienced one you can have some fun too. We don't have much else in Michigan except Boyne Mountain which is a drive so for a quick run to get some air and exercise it's ok. read more

Popped over to this place on a Saturday for the first time. I was overall impressed by the division of the lines. By that I mean, it is decently spread out to help the lines not get too overwhelming busy. I wish they had a little more hill variety, but not disappointed. The bar area reminds me a lot of Mt. Holly in how it looks. Definitely a chill vibe and good wait staff. We enjoyed some spicy popcorn, fries and poppers on our visit as well. Oh and the music entertainment really balanced out the place. Solid work. read more

Mary Jane is an amazing ski instructor. One lesson and my fundamentals are set. Leaps and bounds better than the Mt. Baldy intro to skiing lesson that I took in California. I was hard stuck on the bunny hill without a good understanding of how to proper stop or turn quickly and she cleared up all of my misconceptions, even going into a bit of the physics. Her explanation and steps were intuitively all connected. I graduated green and blue, and even tried the bottom part of the black - on that same day. I think she taught me too well for a follow up, but I will go for another when I'm back in Michigan for the blacks. Highly recommended! read more

my family went to look at some thing that was not marked off as employees only. A man approached, cursing using the F word to my kid that they should not effing be there. This man claimed to be an employee yet every other word was the F word.spoke to the manager, Sean Kennedy, who allowed his employee to continue to curse at adults and children. PSA...Warning to all parents (especially girl parents). My 15 year old daughter was assaulted by 3 teenage boys tonight at the top of a hill just feet from security. They threw chunks of ice at her face, resulting in lacerations to the face, a swollen jaw and a black eye. After speaking to management...absolutely nothing done, absolutely no apology, zero refund. I will never allow my daughters to go to this resort again! So sad! We've been going there for over 10 years and it just continues to get rowdier and it's tolerated by staff. My friends and I went on a ski trip as soon as we became fully vaccinated. I don't think I would have gone here if I wasn't vaccinated. People were wearing masks, but there was too many people and not even social distancing, especially indoors while getting our rentals and dining. My friends and I ordered a group private lesson. Not only was our personal ski instructor friendly and patient, but so were the other ski instructors out on the slopes helping us up when we fell. The food at their cafeteria is below average, but they're able to charge above average prices because they know you'll be starving after skiing. Also, their grill just so happened to be broken after right when ordered my meal so I had to wait about 15 minutes for my cafeteria food to be ready. read more

Mike over at the snowboard ski school lesson area is one of then nicest most understanding good guys out there. His staff is excellent and is a testament of his leadership. Caden is such a great guy who recognizes anyone he has given lessons to past present. That's a true gift. Looking forward to the club for many years over for our little guys and being a chaperone which is also fun For the adults. Bartending staff is top notch. Good variety of beer and just plain friendly and accommodating. Hard to find these days. Only slight gripe is the ticket window folks. Very rigid on specifics relative to ski school. It's definitely #2 on my list as far as I'm concerned. One of the better of the 4 ski resorts that are in striking distance of Metro Detroit. The attendants are really nice and they're very attentive. I'm not very good at snowboarding yet, but I find the long 1/4 mile slope is really cool and great for novice skiers and snowboarders. There's definitely gonna be some population after school gets out... here's a hint.. **come early** This particular resort is really good because they have these things called ski lifts. Apparently it takes you from the bottom of the hill with your equipment attached to you, then deposits you at the top of the hill where you would start you snowboarding/skiing pleasure. That right there is the best thing since sliced bread. Also, there's an attendant at the bottom that would stop the lift if you are in need of assistance or if you fall off the chair. They've really got everything covered in this resort. Best thing about this resort is that their slopes are covered in snow!! OMG!! That is mind blastingly awesome!! It definitely cannot get better than this!! Their lodge is also awesome cause they have chairs and tables everywhere. So that you or your friends can put your equipments and jackets and such down while you SIT and chat. This is an awesome concept!! My goodness!! Then if you want to buy some coffee or hot chocolate or you might rather fancy a snack. They've strategically placed a cafeteria shop at the corner of the lodge. This resorts potential is limitless!! We were not sure what to do for Valentine's Day and decided why not hit the slopes. Glad we did. We had a blast. It was not overly crowded and just the right amount of people for a Sunday Funday;) We definitely did not want to go to a restaurant for dinner and I prefer to cook at home mostly, as I enjoy it and it tastes better than many restaurants anyway...as I digress. After a couple hours on the slopes. We went in for a quick bite. It was fairly busy in the food area and we found a spot with ample spacing and felt comfortable. We just might go back tomorrow since we are expecting up to 8 inches of snow tonight! read more

45 F and rain all day, the whole park was pure slash and totally empty, could not roll over our overpriced camp fee into a private lessons option. The ski terrain park camp had 3 instructors for 5 kinds and snowboard camp had 1 instructor for 3 kids. No accountability, oversight or transparency. Andy at ski school and all the other employees were pretty ticked off about me asking. They are only famous because are close and conveniently located to the suburbs, so they don't care about service since they have enough customers. Very set in their ways - for example at the beginning of ski season always 4 h wait to get your pass because they have only single employee and 1 machine printing passes for hundreds of people in line at the venue.... Won't open waiting lodge areas despite still COVID around so they don't have to clean them and instead cramping everyone at the same small place for ease of stuff. read more

PK is decent for that urge to ski in SE Michigan. We usually ski the Belgium Brewing "Thunderbolt Racing" league on Tuesday nights. Sometimes it can be busy with kids schools; however, they all leave by 7:30pm. And then the real fun begins, since there is no one on the hills you can ski the runs quickly. The run are mostly straight but there are a few next to the quarter mile that has a bit of curve to it. The beginner hill is off to the right and the more advanced is to the left. They have one new lift this year that is a speed lift. It's worth riding this one when it's busy. Inside, it is typical old school 70's decor. They really need a makeover but the food is decent and overpriced. The bar area is probably you best bet. They have good Michigan brews on tap, yummy popcorn, and great service. This is the best ski resort ever I hope there I love this place the skis are so cheap and the helmets

The hill is tiny, so after about three runs you will probably get bored. The staff and management are pretty rude; the food is mediocre. The bar allows cigar smoking, which makes your clothes smell like an ash tray. The lift attendants do a horrible job of loading, which I believe is dangerous, especially for children. Several times, an attendant neglected to hold the chair and it resulted in wacking me in the back of the knee. There are no safety bars, so having children ride the lift unattended is probably asking for trouble. Actually, I skied here for several years until I got fed up with the terrible treatment and poorly trained staff. Now I just go up-north, where my kids ski free, the hills are bigger, snow is better and the service is much more pleasant. It's amazing to me that they can treat their very best customers so horribly and still remain in business. Go figure. read more

Even as far as hills go, this is small. Let us get that out of the way. That said, it is within a half hour of Royal Oak and we just gotten a decent snowfall. They are really good at doing a lot with what they got. There are a decent number of runs (given the 200' drop) and you are never waiting too long for lifts. I had not been boarding in a couple of years, so this was perfect for getting my bearings. It was annoying that they shut down the entire hill for grooming. I wandered into the lodge, which was packed to the gills with high school kids and families. No matter, they opened up the hill after about an hour and I was back up there. read more

For the past ten years going to Pine Knob, I swear they have the worst, meanest, rudest, most condescending staff, management, and owners. From their people who give their lessons, to guest services, to the owners of the place, they're all terrible and awful to customers. Any interaction what-so-ever with anyone who works at that establishment has been awful. If there was any place closer, I'd never go there again in my life! In all my years on this earth, 100% their staff is the worst of anywhere I have ever been!!! I've decreased my ski'ing, and will drive farther to other ski resorts because of Pine Knobs awful customer service and I hate going there!! read more

If you're complaining about the size of the hill, you just... don't.. get... it! The only thing that matters on any ski run, regardless of overall size, is the 15 feet in front of you! If you're the type of skier who skis statistics and not the snow in front of you, best look elsewhere. I hear Whistler out in BC has some really good statistics. Let me know how long it takes to drive out there on a Thursday after working a full day in Auburn Hills or Troy. With that said, Pine Knob has something for everyone. The operations staff does a good job providing something for everyone of all levels to ski. Additionally, the hill is often the first to open and with the most terrain. For example, I would guess that 80% of the hill was open within a week of the snow guns first firing up. PROS: First to open! Great beginner area that is well segregated from the rest of the hill Great intermediate area off the back (Quicksilver) with a nice long gentle pitch The only ski area with a consistent mogul run. Sometimes not until January, but they'll eventually make it happen! Majority of the slopes face north, doesn't loose much snow during warm spells Best ski school in the area (I might be biased) Rarely any lift lines 3 separate terrain parks: one for small features, one for medium and one for large. Perpetual 1980s retro music on the PA system CONS: Certain weeknights can fill up with am abundance of lift-line-challenged adolescents Lift operators do little to organize / enforce lift lines when they do get busy Lodge is quickly over capacity on busy evenings The longer magic carpet run has a slight tilt to the skier's left that funnels beginners back into the carpet. Great place to ski, close to home, and at a decent price that won't break me for 3 of us to ski. I've been skiing here with my 2 oldest (10 and 6) for the last 2 years, on Mondays as part of their Ski Club for school. I'd have to admit, Mondays are the highlight of our week : ) The ski instructors are amazing, very professional, knowledgeable, fun and enthusiastic. My kids each took one lesson with them, and were on their own from then on! The resort has 2 magic carpets, 2 tow ropes, and 6 chair lifts. They have a large bar area overlooking the slopes, with huge windows to warm up in, or to just sit and watch while your kids hit the slopes. They have a café to fill your belly full with snacks or quick bites and a ski shop to purchase clothing. Or if you're like me, to buy new gloves because you left yours at home. They offer discounted evening rates and early morning passes, both which will save you a decent amount. You can rent all your equipment here, so that's great too for those who don't own, or are maybe just getting started in the sport. Horrible experience. My first time ever coming out here and I will never come back. A lot of things with their customer service was horrible. I do not appreciate the way my friends and I were talked to and treated. It was almost 9 pm and the lift guy said they closed at 9 (it was Sunday) so we returned my rental and waited in the car for our friends. it was past 930 and we called pine knob because the lifts were still running. They stayed open till 10 that night even though the lift guy said 9. When we called to complain because that's a whole hour we missed out on, they didn't do a thing for us. We spent a lot of money to be treated this rudely by the staff. Very unhappy. read more

Very Expensive to ski on an old landfill! Everything is overpriced and not that great! You must use a 5 dollar minimum to charge your credit card with a sign covered by their 1$ marshmallows for your 5 dollar hot choclate. It is a small hill in SE Michigan... The nostalgia is definitely there, I have been coming here since I was a kid in the early 90s and they haven't ever updated anything. Trying not to be too judgy because maybe snow making has been so expensive it has blown the budget for cleaning the windows or generally everything. I am sorry guys, this place is gross and is in terrible need of an update. If you are really too broke to maintain the place and still have to demand such high lift ticket prices I am truly sorry. I love skiing and this is a great place to start. However, I bring my kids here with a ski school program and I am going to start asking them to look for another venue because every Saturday we come here, I have to drop serious loot for my kids to ski then sit in this dump all day during their sessions. My second kid started this year and my first's lift ticket price doubled, now every minute that ticks by in the lodge brings me closer to losing my mind. Clean it up PK. read more

The general manager Rob Shick treats his customers like garbage and yelled at me while I was on my cell phone during a business call in a quite place at the lodge. He claimed it was private space (banquet room) but no signs were posted and the door to the stairwell open. Unfortunately my customer heard everything this guy said. Pretty embarrassing. When I asked him if he worked there he didn't even acknowledge who he was but i later found out he was the so called General Manager Executive. This guy lacks basic people skills. He could have simply walked over to me and quietly and politely recommended another area in the lodge. Executives don't act in such a manner. I won't go back. read more

The terrain park is my home and these last two years we have had the best park crew in the state. This is one of my least favorite ski hills. I think only Alpine Valley is worse. My latest visit was during the week between Christmas and New Year's, one of the busiest times to be there. There weren't any extra lift attendants so the lines were ridiculous. A few lifts have multiple lines that merge into one line. There are many rude children that don't know how lines like that work and it would be nice if they had someone regulating. One of their lifts was not running on this oh-so-busy day. Yes, there was another lift close by that serviced the same area, but the line was HUGE. And again, the children cutting in and inappropriately using the singles line made it even longer. It's convenient when you've got to get your skiing fix and don't want to drive all the way up north but this place sucks. The resorts up north are so much better. I'm thinking the next time I have the itch to get on the snow I'll be patient and wait until I'm able to make the drive to high-quality resort and skip the "hill". After reading the above review to my husband he asked me if I had mentioned the ridiculous season pass prices for this "crap-hole". Seriously, go ski there one time and then see how much they think they can charge. It's funny. read more

I took my kids for their first ski lesson to Pine Knob this weekend. They are 5 and 7, so they did the kindersparks group lessons. It was perfect for them. The instructors were great, and my children enjoyed the experience. This is definitely a smaller hill, but for my childrend starting out with skiing, it was a perfect solution. Close to home, an reasonably priced We brought our own food and hot chocolate, so we didn't use the cafeteria. The lower level has a place to sit and eat packed lunches. The tables were all 'claimed' by random clothes and bags, but we just used one of the tables anyway. Everyone was nice, and we had no problem with this approach. read more

Dirty and old! Your better off at Mt. Brighton. the ski rental staff are terrible. Tried to fit my 10 year old daughter with broken bindings and old skis that haven't been waxed or sharpened in years!! Don't waste your money here. I'm a first time skier. I had a great time getting the gist of the whole process of learning how to ski, especially on the magic carpet. It started becoming more and more easier as I kept going. So I've decided to try the bunny hill with the chair lifts. It was becoming difficult with the speed control and I almost hit the staff's wife when I was going down the slope. The guy just comes up to me and starts scolding me for laughing at the fact I almost hit his wife! He clearly took it to the next level of immaturity! I was laughing due to be scared that I was going to fast down the slope. Anyway, I'm on the ground in a little pain and I kept saying that I'm sorry! He just walks off like nothing happened. I really think that Pine Knob needs to hire staff that are more mature and actually know how to do their job! I've been hearing that the majority of the staff are pretty rude and after what happened pretty much sums it up. read more

This place needs to be shut down. They have absolutely no business sense...not sure how it isn't bankrupt. I went on ski club night my two little kids. We rode up the chairlift in the kiddy hill. As soon as we got to the top, the kids asked where the skunk was. Knowing better, looked back to see the lift operator in a cloudy booth smoking pot. And this guy is in charge of how many kids on a dangerous lift?! I am reporting this to the TV news problem solvers as well as the state of Michigan regulatory authority. I informed the management and they do not care. Hence, I do not advise taking your kids there. I've been going there for 20 years and it has really gone into the tank. Given what we experienced, I am wondering who is in charge of maintenance. If you don't believe me, ask them for personnel files with drug testing. I guarantee that there are none. read more
