Mt. Holly is definitely up there with the best skiing/snowboarding hill in Southeast Michigan. Yes, the hills aren't the longest or highest but they're well taken care of and there are some glades/trees. The terrain park is cool too if that's your thing. Also, it's a bit more advanced than other hills close by to here. The VALUE definitely gets worse year by year and I see genuine reactions from complete strangers to the price when they hear their totals at the register, always like "What!? Is this right?!" A very fun afternoon with the family and friends. Not much else to say the scene is snowboarding there is always enjoyable, I would say that there is probably better places but, not as convenient as Mount Holly. We went as a family, spent the entire day, drinks in the lodge, and we actually got some very outstanding Pizza. The ski lodge has a very much alps kinda feel mixed in w/ a little Frankenmuth vibe. Definitely had the charm of a older and capable ski lodge. Plenty of places to step inside and get warm, grab a beer or enjoy the sun beating down on the patio. Beer is a little pricey, but it's hard to find a place that doesn't raise beer ($7) and food prices. There are the tow rope areas for the beginners and also another nice green run that really allows the first time snow friends to figure out the basics. It's wide, long and isn't too steep. The blue runs are pretty decent and allow the beginner ready to take the next step fairly easily. Most runs were long and winding creating a little more fun and time spent rather than those fast straight down hills. Lots of variety and even a very cool back area for the more experienced. Also there is a run on the back side that connects all all of the lifts in case you need to abort the mission and get back to a blue or green run. Also all of the people I encountered were friendly on the lifts; you don't always find that on the hill. Overall great little place and worth the visit for a fun day in the snow read more

My first time here. The Slopes were well groomed and the People were all nice, from Lift Attendant to Bartender and Ticket Sales. I will probably return if I'm in the Detroit area with my Skis. Yesterday was our first time there. The hills are beautiful compared to Mt. Brighton but the employees are much friendlier in Brighton. The woman at the register at the cafe was rude. A kid had a cup with a hole in it and she told them to go get another cup. They hesitated and she said "right now" in not a nice tone. I saw people going in just for drinks so I did and she shouted, "Mam, there IS a line." Being my first time I didn't know to tell them nor did I want to interrupt her very busy line of customers. I understand the process and didn't want to cut but standing in a line for one self serve pop seemed unnecessary. My son frequents the cafe and said that everyone knows she's rude. That shouldn't be acceptable. The teens working seemed to rather be somewhere else. The young woman with blonde hair and glasses that took our boots was the only one that was friendly and told us to have a nice night. I know the youth of today do not have the social skills that I was taught but speaking to others with kindness and respect should be the very least they could muster and should be a job requirement. Even a man in the ski patrol was not friendly when I needed directions. A smile and a greeting of "hi" or "Can I help you" goes a long way. I know first hand working in the service industry for many years that you have to fake it even if you aren't in the mood. We need to do better as a society. I know not every employee is like this but these were the ones I encountered in my first visit. This is my first review ever but it seems appropriate in this case. I feel like if I spend $130 to bring my son skiing one time that I should feel welcomed as a customer. We will go back since my sons love to ski but I may have to offer some constructive criticism to the woman in the cafe. She's old enough to know better. read more

Probably my favorite local mtn here in the metro Detroit. Yes, it does not compare to the big mountains but we are lucky to have some places we can learn and enjoy the winter months. This is the mtn I learned how to snowboard on and keep coming back. The place is like any other place here but always provides an enjoyable time were you do not get bored. Mt Holly itself, has ever difficult level you can imagine. However, like I stated before, it does not compare to the big mountains in Colorado and California. The staff there are always helpful and eager to serve. They have classes for all ages. I would definitely look at their website to see the deals and what slopes are open. They sometimes have to make their own snow so do not come here thinking you are gonna get the real stuff when there has not been any snow in alone time. Overall, I love this mtn and all it has. It has helped me learn and conquer. Also, it is not as busy as the closer mtn, so you will not have massive kids going done the slopes as you try to avoid them. read more

Our instructor Mark was so patient and knowledgeable- we learned so much. So I debated on weather I should give holly 3 or 4 stars.. If it was in any location with mountains besides SE Michigan, it would be getting 3 stars, but because it is the best mountain in SE Michigan, it gets 4 stars from me. Even though Mt. Holly is a further drive and a bit more expensive than Brighton, I still would prefer to go here any day.. Holly is a much different type of Mountain than Brighton is because: -It has longer runs; it takes a good amount of time to make it to the bottom of the slopes which is great cus no one wants short runs! -The trails have some curves and winds to them which actually makes them feel more like trails -There's lots of trees which is really great and makes it feel like a real mountain -Even when it's super windy out, the trees block the wind so it's not as harsh on the skier/boarder -the atmosphere in the lodge is very homey and cozy which I love -I find that the people at the mountain are friendlier whether we're talking about staff or skiers/riders All these things are problems that Mount Brighton has.. And with that being said, Holly has lots of advantages over Brighton. The reason I'm comparing these two mountains is because I feel that they are competitors. I'd choose Holly over Brighton any day and would recommend Holly to people that I like. And for the people that I don't like, they should go to Brighton :) lol. Keep Calm & Snowboard On read more

This ski hill is the biggest in the Detroit Metro area. It has the most runs and the highest vertical height. We went here over the holiday break and found the snow in great condition. They have a new magic carpet ride to pull beginners up the hill. We had our kids use this and it was great for them. It takes you about 3/4 up the beginner hill. We also used the tow rope which tore my gloves up! We did not run the chair lifts this time but in the past have found them to run fine without major stops. Inside they have lots of seating in the bar area and the general cafeteria area too. We sat in the general cafe. We brought some good and bought some too. The chicken sandwich and hot cocoa were decent snacks; however the beef soft taco was amazing. The ingredients were fresh and the meat tasted very good! The bathrooms were fairly clean and could have used a bit of a scrub. Maybe next time it will be in better. We will return again with the kids as this have the "magic carpet" ride! read more

Helmet....Helmet.... HELMET!!! (Only $10) I don't care if you think you're a pro; if you love your brain, then you would wear it even though it makes you look a little slow. Lol! This was my first time -- OMG my body hurt the following day and my neck. The lodge is really crowded but it was only because we were by the bar but there several other spots (seating areas) located within the lodge. I'm not a beer drinker but since it was only $3 (bottoms up) and I had peppermint hot chocolate with whip cream on the top (YUMMY!) for only $6.50. **If you are a person that don't believe in knocking down little kids, then I don't think learning snowboarding would be for u. Lol! I've told my best to avoid hitting people and little ones but I could do was scream "SORRY!" as I continue moving because stopping was the hardest thing. REMEMBER YOU WILL LEARN TO LOVE IT AFTER THREE TIME DOING GOING -- Everyone was telling me that and I totally agree. Not sure how much a instructor cost -- I was lucky enough to have a friend who was previous a snowboarding instructor, so I saved money. I will be going back in the future! read more

My favorite skiing near Ann Arbor; further than Mt Brighton, and a little pricier, but well worth it. The hill's not huge --- 350 feet vertical --- but by Michigan standards it's fairly sizable. Most of the lifts are older (there's only one high-speed quad), but there are a bunch of them; I rarely wait in line, even on fair-weather weekends. The steeper terrain is away from the lodge, and the easy stuff is close --- well laid out, without sharp green-black transitions and the associated two-sided culture shock. The lodge is mellow, and sizable; the main cafeteria area is usually full, but the overflow section upstairs rarely is. There's also a fancier area that's trying for an après-ski feel and mostly missing, looking more like a 70s lounge. I've never rented equipment here, but the rental area seems better-organized than most. read more

For Michigan and being only an hour from Ann Arbor, this is the best skiing you're going to get. It's not as good as say, anything in Colorado or some other state that actually has mountains, but I had a great time skiing here for the day. Ski trails run from green to black, with a terrain park here and there. I took my friend skiing here his first time, and he was skiing the black runs after two hours. So, you won't find anything here to be dangerously difficult. Great for beginner to average skiers. read more

I was worried when I moved to Michigan that there would not be any downhill skiing so I'm just glad this place exists! The vertical drop is about 350 feet, which isn't too bad, and there is a variety of trails. The terrain park is nice when you're ready for a change from the trails, or just want to watch experts catch air! Only one out of the five lifts moves quickly, which was a bit frustrating when I wanted to check out other parts of the mountain but didn't want to spend 20 minutes riding the chair lift. Horrible customer service. They are rude an threatening to customers. Save yourself the money and go anywhere else. Alpine Valley, Pine Knob, My. Brighton are all down the street. Their employees will actually treat you with respect. The handful of times I went here, I left early because I couldn't handle the downright aggressiveness coming from ski lift operators, the ticket line, customer service. Went skiing on this past weekend at Mt. Holly. All in all it was a pretty great experience. I rented my equipment there for $27 (skis, poles, and boots), lift ticket on weekends is $34..total was $69. I thought that was pretty fair for a skiing from the morning to around 5:00pm. Lifts were pretty fast, the only hold up was when someone would fall when getting off...but that is typical. Food was pretty decent. Ordered the french onion soup in the bread bowl. The only change I would make is less cheese...what is up with Michigan and adding a million pounds of cheese on everything? Anyway, soup was great and the waitress brought extra broth which was great. Def will be returning here for more skiing! :) read more

Ski hill is decent for southeast Michigan. Just about the best the area has to offer. As for their food options, they are very much lacking. I just paid $10.75 for a terrible grilled chicken sandwich, cafeteria quality fries, and a 16oz bottle of water. I'm willing to pay inflated prices at a ski area, but the food needs to be semi-worth it. Although Mt Brighton isn't as tall, their other amenities are making them a better choice for me. read more

Mt Holly is close so we go there often. They are a bit expensive if you are not in a club and able to get discounted tickets. There are not a lot of green runs, so be prepared for more intermediate skiing. We do like the convenience and they have a good program for the kids to learn. The staff is friendly. They charge way too much for what you get, their season pass prices are ridiculous, their lifts are slow, and their man-made snow is full of ice balls. Was in the area visiting family and wanted to check out a local ski resort. Typical Midwest slopes with all skill level runs. They had a speed lift which was nice. Short lines for a Friday until the ski clubs showed up around 2pm. I would defiantly go again. read more

He grabbed my board and shoved it from one wall to the other denting the other wall and claimed "the painting is 1,000,000$" I was sincerely offended. When my father asked him he said well not that much but it was a lot. He yelled and screamed things that really offended me. Do not bring you children here please. Go to cabrifea in Cadillac or apple mountain in Saginaw. Better prices and better people. AS I REPETE DO NOT GO. YOUR EQUIPTMENT WILL BE MESSED WITH AND PEOPLE THERE ARE VERY RUDE. Its hard to complain about a ski resort near the Detroit area, because you should be thankful there's at least something there right? Its def. not anything like resorts in Colorado or Cali, cant even try to compare them. With that said, Mt Holly is a good place to go if your trying to learn. Now, that's not to say they don't have runs for intermediate people, they do, the problem is all of the runs are Suuperr short, your on the lift more than your actually going down the hill. They also have 2 terrain park areas, one with a lift and one with the tow rope to bring you back up. No half pipe. My level of boarding is good enough to carve down most types of hills, and I have to say it got kinda boring after an hour unfortunately. I think most of the fun to be had is if your starting out, or rocking the terrain park; it leaves the intermediates kinda left out. Again, its better than nothing. If your in good company, you cant really have a bad time here. I'll be checking out Alpine valley next. Peace. read more

Was visiting Michigan from Texas for the holidays and took my girlfriend up to Mt holly ski for her first time on the slopes. She took the $25 one hour beginner ski lesson and said the ski school instructor was a 5 out of 10 as far as really giving her useful information, but otherwise had a good experience. I had previously only been skiing out west where you can't spend a day on the slopes for less than $100. At mt. holly we got rentals (skis, poles, boots and a helmet) and a full day lift ticket for $85 each in the middle of their holiday rates. I thought it was absolutely worth it! The lift lines weren't very long though it was definitely a busy ski hill. I was impressed with the staff overall, they were very friendly. The mountain had some good runs - variety of levels and many chair lifts. My gf and I had an excellent day on the slopes and she was able to do a couple of the blue runs by the end of the day after practicing on the only long green run they had for most of the day. Would've given five stars but I had hoped the instructor would have given her a little more to work with, I ended up having to teach her how to ski myself since they didn't really give her a baseline to work from. I would absolutely come to mt holly again if I were ever up in Michigan but might spring for the $60 private lessons for someone just starting out. read more
