The start of our trip was not great when Captain Bruce told us he ran out of bait. I was obviously not happy but after a discussion we were able to get things in motion. The weather sucked so the surf was rough, but Bruce did a nice job finding a cove that we could fish in. He also did a great job with my sons. We caught a few bass and could have a snagged a few more but they got away while reeling them in. Given the circumstances, we were happy we went out and caught a few. Totally worth it.

Can't say enough about the cheerful, straightforward service. Going north gets you some fun poking about and exploring branching channels in a scenic salt marsh. South gets you a straight shot up that branch of the estuary past more marsh, also pretty, to a bridge and chowder house where you can turn around. Because the shop is near the mouth of the estuary, both directions are easier to paddle on a rising tide and return once the tide turns. So check a tide table and then call to confirm their rental hours, usually starting an hour or two before a high tide.

Which was perfect because it's not a long off shore whale watching trip where you're going to get bored and possibly not see anything but water. This excursion takes you only a short distance from the shore and you're able to view land at all times. The boat was clean and comfortable. The captain was a friendly fellow and pretty funny. He did a nice job explaining some of the history of the area, pointed out some noteable waterfront homes and who their owners were and pulled up a few lobster traps from the water to get a close up and learn a little more about the delicious crustaceans. The trip is reasonably priced (which is a plus for any family vacationing in the area because EVERYTHING here is pretty expensive). The weather was excellent and my group had a really nice time with the crew and other folks on the tour with us. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone looking to fill a few hours throughout the day and gain a little local knowledge of the area.

The boat is small and shabby, and there's insufficient comfortable seating, which meant that some of our party had to be uncomfortably perched on the side of the boat. We couldn't hear anything the entire sail, although we were told we didn't miss much) and for one person, this included the quietly mentioned instructions to move our feet before we turned. Why this wasn't explained loudly before we even left the cove, is beyond me. This led to him almost being pulled off the boat, and with a terrible rope burn that required medical treatment. The "crew" could not have been less concerned, and expressed nothing but annoyance. Even if this had not occurred, the sail would have been painfully boring if we weren't all trying not to vomit from the rough waves. We sailed straight out, straight back in, and then repeated. There truly couldn't have been less effort put in to the experience. Bottom line, if you value safety and competence, avoid this boat at all costs.
