Once a beautiful utopia for families to go to and get away and see all types of birds and ponies, and so many other things now has become a destroyed tore down place since the owners have passed. We went on our 15th anniversary and the following year, we took all our children and have been going for over 25 years. There's no way to book it and it's all blocked off as though they never exist existed.. it's so sad to see this place gone to nonexistent and everything being diminished. Stayed last summer near the water in a tent and it was fantastic. Great location, etc. BUT, sadly, I just went to book another stay only to find out that the are ONLY seasonal now. No more weekend tent trips! Bummer! read more

Late checkout please! A hidden Jewel for RVs and tent campers. This review mostly speaks on the tent camping since that is what my group did. The turn onto the gravel driveway is easy to miss with only a small sign at the entrance. There are three desk people to check you in. The older man (owner), an older woman (the wife), and a younger woman (employee). We had the young woman. She was pleasant and informative, sometimes whispering so the older folks couldn't hear. "Check out is 3:00 p.m. but we don't really enforce it." We stayed in the tent area with electricity and water (circled in yellow) for about $50. We had sufficient shade and the spots were HUGE, about 50x100'. There are also non-electric/water sites for about $45. You might prefer these spots for their view of the water or proximity to the playground and bath house. I would definitely pick the tent area next to the playground and bath house if I had young kids. There are also sinks outside the bath houses to wash dishes. There is also a fish cleaning station behind the bath house (not shown on the map.) Each site had a 22" fire ring that fit the grate from a Weber kettle perfectly. The picnic tables were rickety we used duct tape to cover loose nails. A neighbor hammered his nails back in. Shade and tinder was provided by the pine trees. You might even find a spot to hang a hammock. The swimming pool appeared clean but we did not use it. The motel rooms were not available due to lack of housekeeping staff during our visit. Criticisms of this campground? Sure, the older lady behind the counter is a senior citizen. And the bath house might be 200 yds away from the tent sites. There is another campground with big billboards describing it as waterfront. We checked that out also. Waterfront? Yes. But it's the same waterfront that power boats and other watercraft will load in from. So expect trucks pulling them in and out of the water all day (and perhaps all night.) The tent sites are small. Possibly 20 x 30', we saw many tents butted up against the neighbors tent. I hope you don't mind your neighbors snoring! We will definitely return to Pine Grove on future visits. read more

I have been coming to this campground for 20 years. I confess the customer service is a little challenging (dry but I'm use to it) but all in all it's a great place to bring children. We always visit the waterfowl and go look at the horses and peacocks. They have a pool that compared to others is well maintained. For those who need a life guard I would suggest taking lessons if you need someone watching you swim, as for me I like the freedom of someone not watching every move I make. read more

We tent camped here. The campground is older, and could use some improvements. There are fire rings and plenty of picnic tables. The fire rings are just that and have no grate on them so keep that in mind if you plan on cooking over a fire. There are many seasonal and longterm RV camping here and a small lot for tent camping. The bathhouse is a walk from the tent area but there is a closer porta potty. Overall it is quiet and peaceful. We bought "cured" firewood from them which lit up quick and burned nicely $6 a bag. There is also ice, random souvenirs and other essentials. We also purchased sunscreen for $2 that turned out to be like milky water...overall this camp geound was ok for the value and certainly could use some improvement. If we come back to chincoteague we would probably check out other places. read more

Campsite doesn't really deserve stars but i cant post with out putting a star. the pool had no lifeguard. The bathroom were too far for tent users. The ponds with swans smelled terrible. My little sister got a tick at the pool and little girls were getting lice after being in the pool. The owners wife was rude and kept trying to over charge me for little things that made no sense especially since I read the rules and knew she was trying to fool me. I recommend no one goes here. read more

My boyfriend and I camped here this past weekend. Friendly staff. Clean bathhouse. It was cold! We were the only tent campers (many RVs on the premise). I wish that the bathhouse close to the tent area was open, but we arrived on their first day open and no one needed a bathhouse except for us tent campers, so it's understandable. There was no hot water when we arrived, but it was on the next day. Wish the bathhouse was heated, but it's not necessary since generally people only camp here when it's warm! The closed bathhouse also had a place to wash dishes and gut fish, but the water wasn't on for our visit. The campground is well-maintained. The pine needles make for a soft ground. Sleeping the first night was interesting since the many different types of birds make all sorts of noises, but once we got used to it, it was ok. The office is also a store with toiletries, etc. and the usual Chincoteague trinkets. Stake your tent down well! We didn't tie all the guylines the first night and the wind threatened to take away the tent! If we camp on Chincoteague again, I would return here for another trip. read more

It was a decent campground, but not recommended for tenters. The waterfowl are a little loud, and the campsites (without electric) are not marked. They just have a designated "tent" area where you can set up your tent anywhere you like. The spot is also right next to a swamp area, which doesn't fair well when you have a nectar-like blood that mosquitoes love. The bathrooms were fairly clean, although not quite as updated as I would have liked, especially since we paid $30/night for a tent site (seems a little steep to me). They had a port-a-john next to the tent site, so that helped, but since most of the time tenters are the ones needing bathhouses, it would have been nice to have had it closer to the area. They also seemed to cramp quite a few people into a very small space, so the people were loud as well. Considering there are only four places in the whole park, it would be my second choice (first would be Tom's Cove--stayed there the second night in Chincoteague. So they took my credit card information to make a reservation for one night. I drove all the way from the DMV on a Friday and called them on my way at 7:00 PM to ask a question and the lady who answered said that she can't find my name. I told her that someone took my card's info just the other day and she just said "I can't help you". She didn't even try to know how this happened, didn't apologize, didn't say she's sorry for this VERY inconvenient situation that I was put in. Very unprofessional and obnoxious and they couldn't care less. Terrible customer service and management and now I have to find another place to spend the night on a weekend, which is almost impossible! read more

I was up in June of this year and found the campground to be convienient, clean and very quiet, well except for the birds but they were comical. Theres a really nice pool, and a camp store, the bathrooms are clean and let me just say as a woman traveling alone the staff put me directly across from the campstore, and watched over me like a hawk. I will always stay here each visit to Chincoteague. Nice little laundrymat on premises, the trolley comes to pick up and drop off and its supercheap. My only advice is to make sure you take LOTS of mosquito repellent as Chincoteague is the worst place for them, but the whole community is so friendly and helpful. p.s. We were looking for a campground within an hour from home and looked around in Chincoteague. I just chose Pone Grove on a whim and we are very glad we did. There were a lot of permanent vacation trailers but they were in one area. We have a pop up tent trailer and were able to be with other short stay campers. The camping spots were a very good size with a picnic table and camp fire ring. Electricity and water is provided. The bath house was very clean with nice hot water for showers. It was very quiet in the evening and not buggy. Our daughter loved seeing the friendly ducks and geese in their fenced in area. We highly recommend Pine Grove if you want a quiet get away that is still close to activities and restaurants. read more

The Good: Quiet. Good value. Wooded. Nice view of marsh grasses. Free hot showers. The Opportunities: This campground needs a complete overhaul. The Wildlife Park doubles as a dump for trash and construction debris. It was disgusting. They sprayed for mosquitoes during dinner, exposing my family to chemicals. The free Wifi doesn't work well at all. The paid Wifi is $3/day. read more

We stayed at the rental apartment on the campground. At first, it was nice and we enjoyed staying there. The beds were okay. The living area is nice with old chairs and couch. TV was nice. However, we would not rent from this place again. We had ants in the dishwasher. The ladies at the office tried to help but they never came out to check them out. Not only that, the wifi sucked. Have been camping on Chincoteague Island for 4 years, stayed in hotels before. Pine Grove is my family's perferred site. The office staff is always friendly, and helpful. Very flexible with check-in times ( depending on the fullness of the campground ). Quiet atmosphere , can sit at picnic table and enjoy an early morning cup of tea and watch the waterfowl wander around. Visited Maddox campground our first year, also nice but rather noisy and crowded at times ( campers very close together). Bath houses are the typical campground type but plenty of hot water and an area to wash dishes. Island trolley stops right at the office so easy to get around if you don't feel like driving. Thinking of getting a seasonal spot next year we enjoy it so much. read more
