An older lady walks up to us, "we're closed now, time to check out". It wasn't even 6pm. A lot of people were in this store at this time as well. No overhead announcement of "closing soon" or any type of courtesy to let people know they were closing. We go to check out, one register open for all the people in the store. The same older lady had to let us out of the door since it was locked, sarcastic tone "Thank you for shopping at five below". Honestly think I'm going to be happy that you turned the lights off on everyone and then came to tell us "time to go"? Customer service is awful these days. Disappointing.

My mom and I went into this location like we have done many times before to pickup a few quick things. Store was cleanish, found what we needed and headed to checkout. Only to find no one at the register. Mark, who was on duty was nowhere to be found for 5 minutes. Finally, he decided to come and do his job. If we didn't really need what we went in for we would have left. When he walked up there was no apology for the wait, he didn't even acknowledge my mom and almost threw her receipt at her. We almost thought he was just having a bad night until the customer behind us walked up to the register and ol' Mark just lit up like a Christmas tree and came alive. It was clear to us then that his attitude and demeanor had nothing to do with having a bad night but it had everything to do with us being african american. So maybe take a better look at the caliber of people you hire. If they're racist customer service might not be the line of work they need to be in.
