A couple blocks from I-69 exit 87, this gas station / convenience store location has been a…read morefavorite stop of mine. 20+ years ago, I first learned of this place when it was more of a truck stop. My construction battalion had been assigned some work at the nearby Crane Naval Station and while in the area, we found every restaurant, watering hole and gas station within 20 miles. This stop had hot food to go, a couple diesel pumps for big rigs and convenient parking on site and in an open lot across the street. Oftentimes, local truckers hauling everything from logs to sand and gravel to long-distance truckers could be found parked across the street. Back then, US-231 turned and went north out front and SR-58 continued east. There was talk of how I-69 would come through the area 'someday'. Skip ahead to today and everything has changed. Gone is the original building, replaced by a modern facility with ADA-compliant restrooms, the newest fuel pumps, and of course, the modern-day I-69 expressway. And, it is no longer much of a truck stop. Gone are the diesel pumps for big rigs, and on-site parking is virtually eliminated. A couple parking spaces across the street where the old roadway still sits is as close as a truck will get. They have chicken and sandwiches, donuts and such inside, hot coffee fresh brewed. Tucked away off to one side of the storefront is a little lunch nook for dining in. Other than that, it is a 24/7 safe haven for weary travelers. And it continues to be a favorite stop of mine.

I normally have pleasant experiences at this establishment, but the service was horrible last…read moreweekend. The pumps recently haven't been allowing you to type in your Fuel Rewards number. I forgot this, but quickly hit cancel on the pump, and proceeded inside so I could restart the transaction and be able to use my rewards. The attendant, an older man, was horribly rude and yelled at me. He clearly didn't understand what I was asking or saying, and he just kept telling me to "get out there and pump your gas! It says it's ready to go!" This happened several times. So not only does the pump not cancel your transaction even if you haven't picked up the nozzle, but then the cashier proceeds to yell at you because they don't know how to do it. It's fine if you don't know, but there's no reason to berate me because you don't know how to do your job. If the cashier or the pump would've known how to cancel then I would've proceeded across the street to BP, Road Ranger, Speedway, or Pilot. Any of which would've been better and that I would gladly give my business to.

They run various specials through the week. Other items found on the menu are meatloaf, chicken and noodles, and grilled chicken. They also serve a good breakfast. I have never had a bad meal here. Everything has always been hot and filling. Be prepared to eat, because the portions are generous. There isn't a ton of seating, and if you are there on a Sunday you may have to wait a bit for service. Other than that, you can get in and out pretty quickly. Make sure that you save room for some banana cream pie and coffee! The restaurant is connected to the convenience store so plan on filling up on gas and groceries while you are there. Also worth noting that they do sell beer in the convenience store and it is the only location in the immediate area that does so. The whole place shuts down a little early for a convenience store. I think they close up shop around nine, especially on the weekends.
