I went in with my dad's LT. Col. Army dress cover (hat) because this shoe repair store has been in its present location for as long as I can remember. I would only trust leaving something so important to me here. I explained to Oscar what I wanted him to do and he assured me he would treat this precious item with tender loving care. He was true to his word. When I arrived to pick the hat up he told me to look for it in the store. It took a few seconds to spot it high above every other item showing me that Oscar knew how valuable this was to me and he kept it safe. Oscar hand stitched the inside band back in place and mended the "scrambled eggs" on the front. I know this took a long time for him to do. I cried, emotions just came over me. Oscar understood and couldn't have been more compassionate! The owner of the store, I'm guessing, Lou, talked to me about the great honor of my dad achieving the level of Lt. Col. I'm writing this review to forewarn any potential customers that may patronize this establishment about a extremely "poor" customer experience I encountered. On January 10, 2022 I took a pair of my Gucci sneakers to get resoled to this place. And, upon dropping them off the manager "Oscar" stated to me that he would need 2 weeks to do the job. And, I was perfectly fine with that and told him I'd see him again to pick them up on January 24th. Now on January 21st, I figured I'd just give him a call to by chance see if the sneakers were done ahead of schedule & if I could pick them up. And, when I spoke to Oscar he stated, "They're not ready yet and they won't be ready on January 24th either". So, naturally I was disappointed and bothered by the update considering the inconvenience this was causing. Then Oscar stated, "Give me until Thursday January 27th now!". And of course I was even further perturbed by this inconvenience he had caused me and I just said, "Fine...(out of disgust)". So, come Thursday January 27th, I show up to his place to pick up my sneakers he had told me the day before would be ready and low & behold my sneakers HADN'T BEEN TOUCHED!!!!!Needless to say I was livid because here this so-called "manager" told me blatantly over the phone that they would be ready and here they weren't and looked the same way I brought them in nearly 3 weeks ago at this point!!! As a result of my displeasure, I informed him that I wanted my sneakers completed and ready by the next day or provide me my back my money and them as well. In his reply to me as to why they weren't ready he had the unmitigated nerve to say, "My deliveries on soles have been delayed so that's why I didn't get them done for you sir...". And, that excuse to me was unacceptable when he could have clearly over the phone told me the issue or even better yet could of called me to explain the situation... Needless to say I WILL NEVER go there again because of the despicable customer service I experienced. And, to add to it, when I went to pick up my sneakers the job he did on the soles were poor and he didn't even have the courage to wait on me or offer me any sort of extended apology. He is a perfect example of why great customers much like myself will never frequent his establishment ever again... read more

I took a pair of Joan and David leather high heeled booties that I've had for 20 years to get the heels repaired. He also said the entire bottom sole needed to be rebuilt. That was fine and the work looks solid but he took the fully leather sole that was a beautiful camel tan and covered half of it with a black rubber sole. I understand he was trying to make the shoe more functional but it compromised the look of the sole which is now half black and half tan. It would have been better if he matched the color of the sole he replaced. The wait to get them back was also a week and a half longer than expected. I hate that this was the outcome because he was so very pleasant. read more

A.MAZ.Ing! I took my brand new custom made Italian Loro Piana boots into Pilgrim to have them weatherproofed on the bottom, conditioned, and have the leather tongue on the zipper trimmed. Have only been here twice but great results both times. Most recently I needed one shoe of a pair to be stretched. I left the shoe to be stretched, came back and tried it on as asked. Seemed fine. They said just bring it back if I needed more stretch. No charge. That's what you need in a cobbler. I'll be back. read more

Not only was the person manning the desk friendly, but he basically did a "quick fix" on the problem and charged me nothing for it. He also examined the boot closely and told me about the materials and how it was made. He also recommended a polish that would make the boot water resistant, which was helpful. I went to Pilgrim Garden Shoe repair and Lou was no longer there and sold his business. He trained a very nice young man in the art of shoe repair but forgot to teach him how to price fairly. The work was fine but the price was not fair as I had a simple pad put in the back of my golf shoes and was charged $40 dollars. My mistake a should not have agreed. I asked him to polish another pair of black golf shoes and he wanted $20 dollars!! Hopefully he will able to stay in business and continue the tradition that was established by Lou. It will become more cost effective to buy new shoes if this pricing practice continues. The shame of it he lost a customer who would spend on average over $100 dollars a year. I think he needs to learn how to deal fairly with customers. read more

This place is not super fast if you have significant repairs to premier designer stuff like a Burberry bag or something similar that needs to be repainted or whatever it is they do but they are well worth Any applicable weight because you can't rush perfection and they have perfected their craft. read more

I received a pair of leather western boots for Christmas. I was going to ship them back because they didn't fit my calf at all. I decided to give Shoe stretching a try. I'm so happy I did. I met "Lou the Shoe", he is a friendly helpful man who told me I could give stretching a try. He took extra caution with my boots because of where the seam was at in the leather. I came back a few times and we would stretch them for another week. Now they fit 100% better than when I first got them. The best part is I don't have to ship them back. That would have been such a hassle. For only $25 and a few weeks of cautious care to sit in a stretcher I can keep my boots! Love this shop and Lou is amazing! No way...so googled nearby shoe repairs and found Pilgrim Shoe Repair and what a gem ! The "cobbler" was friendly and when I asked how soon I could pick them up , he said that he could repair them while I waited .... and the charge? $12 ! I highly recommend this place! I have a very thin calf and thigh area and haven't been able to find a pair of over-the-knee boots that fit me properly. I ended up buying a pair with the idea that someone could modify them to fit my leg. After visiting a cobbler that basically told me it wasn't worth his time to help, I visited this place without much hope. I was super surprised to find that they were completely happy to help. Today I picked up my boots and they fit me PERFECTLY. I will absolutely take other shoes back for modification and after basically reopening my boot and putting it back together, I know that they could easily fix other simpler shoe problems.
