If Mr. Byrum ever used to care about the quality of his work, he doesn't anymore. Maybe he is tired of doing this after 50 years. Maybe the quality of his work has always been bad, but he has enough customers who don't know any better. Maybe, he is incapable of recognizing how bad his work is. I recently took a pair of brand new leather boots and a pair of lightly used, clean and conditioned leather dress shoes that have satin laces to get a rubber half-sole applied. Not only was the work done extremely unprofessionally, but my boots and shoes were returned dirty and stained. The half soles on the boots are uneven. The bottom surface of the shoes was excessively and unnecessarily removed behind the half-soles on both pairs, but especially the boots. The brand new heel on one boot was even damaged on the corner! The cherry on top were the black stains left on the satin laces of the dress shoes. I can't buy replacement satin laces in the correct shade of green anywhere to match these shoes in case the stains do not come out. When I expressed my dissatisfaction and asked for a refund, I was met with denial, refusal, and responses of, "I don't give refunds, that's how I do everyone's shoes." He took no accountability. He charged me $130. I would not bring anything that you care about here, unless you want to pay to have your possessions mistreated. If he can't respect your shoes, he can't respect others or even himself. Sad. read more

I marred my expensive, soft leathered shoe cap after a very first wear. I wore these newbies to a fancy restaurant and the table footing razor-cut the beautiful soft leather right over the toe cap. I was REALLY bummed and the blemish was very noticeable and bummed me out. So, I researched shoe repair services and this shop was recommended by Yelp. Well, this recommendation was SPOT ON. The owner fixed whiled I waited, it's barely noticeable now and the cobbler was kind, professional and didn't even want to charge me! He said it was an "easy fix." This kind of service isn't something I even thought was offered any more! Well that was a flop. I wasn't greeted upon entering the store and when I was I didn't necessarily get a warm and fuzzy hello. I came in looking to replace the soles of high heels I own, he looked at the shoe for probably 10 seconds and told me it was impossible to fix that was just the shoe. I'm never the type to write a bad review but I am Unsatisfied with the work that was done to my Christian Louboutin shoes.. These shoes are originally 700+ I asked him to put on Vibram on my soles.. He did that and he scraped off my patent leather on the sides which is impossible to fix, he got paint on my patent leather, glue in my patent leather, and painted my soles poorly. It looked like he rushed because the paint is a different color than my original sole color and very uneven.. He is a very kind person but I am very disappointed on how my shoes turned out.. This is a gem of a place located so tucked away from all the other stores and behind the strip mall that it's so hard to find. I posted a couple of photos here but I don't think they do enough justice to show the simplicity of the place. That said, Byrum was amazing. I was looking for a place that I could have my leather shoes cleaned and brought up to perfection and Byrum did just that. My shoes are now perfect just like the day I bought them. I found that he also does leather bags, so I'm going to bring him my leather purse which I so like but can't use anymore since it's all faded. Hopefully Byrum can restore it for me. read more

Took my favorite irreplaceable heeled black leather Dansko boots in for a new zipper expecting a wait time of about a week and was asked what time *the next day* I'd like to pick them up! They were done on time, beautifully cleaned up and waterproofed, and the zipper is better than the original one! Their pricing is on par and very reasonable for their high standard/quality of work. As has been mentioned, a bit hard to find, but completely worth the (slight) trip off the beaten path. Go into the inside area with the Asian market, turn left at the first hallway, and the shop is down the second hallway on the right side. Byrum himself was very courteous to me and did a fantastic job fixing both my shoes and my suitcase. The work was quality - I didn't think the torn nylon strap on my travel backpack could be repaired but Byrum "triple stitched it" and it's as good as new. He also fixed up my Bostonian shoes with a new insole and "tongue pad" to help them fit better, gave me some great athletic insoles to keep my indoor squash shoes in good condition, and sold me some new shoelaces for another pair of dress shoes. In sum, I was so happy with my experience here. I think Byrum might charge a little bit extra for his services, but he can fix anything and does quality work. I had him stretch a pair of women's boots that were too narrow. He did the job within a couple of days for $20. I also had him add another hole to my husband's leather belt. He was quite pleasant to work with. I've already referred his services to a few friends and coworkers. Apparently he also is a leather worker, who will create custom pieces upon request. I was charged $30 to shine two pair of men's shoes! You can get your shoes shined at the Philadelphia International airport for $7 each. The shoes were in good repair. Just a shine. Complete rip off by a scheming black counter person. The owner was talking to his friend saying he was getting a new computer. The friend suggested one for $400. The owner said he was spending $1,500. The friend asked him how he's going to do that. The owner said he'll get the money somehow. Then the owner came back with my shoes and said it was $30. I took them in around 5:30PM on Tuesday and I received a phone call Wednesday at lunchtime that both pairs were ready for pick-up, so I was pretty pleased with the quick service. As another reviewer mentioned, it did cost $20 per pair - but I love these boots so much that the $40 was worth it instead of the alternative of buying brand new boots. He also cleaned up the scuffs and scratches on the heels, cleaned the suede on one pair and shined the other leather pair. Super-nice guy, too! FYI... He only accepts cash or checks, no credit cards.
