I eat a lot. Like: A LOT. And not as in often. As in: I eat a LOT in one sitting. I am a hollow-legged lady on a mission to fill up the tank. I have a baby (whom I mention every chance I get, because kid = sympathy) and he is exhausting. So Pikku-Nepal, you can thank him for my initial enthusiasm.
Starving or not (and I usually am), I don't like crappy food. Pikku-Nepal is anything but. While their salad bar left a bit to be desired (Satkar has spoiled me), they still do a pretty great job providing the basics: lettuce, some dressed salads, corn, etc. It is enough to keep you full while waiting for the main meal.
Their lunch special is outstanding. I had the saag with rice, daal, and some other side for around 9 euro. Standard but a great value. They also win "Best Naan" award from me. Even I ate it and I usually don't eat naan. I wish they offered papadum like Satkar does - that would take them up to 5 stars for me.
Here's the summary: super flavorful everything. Nothing is an afterthought here, like it can be at other similar spots at lunch time. The presentation is lovely, service is good, they are patient with folks with babies (they do have baby seats but they're limited). Everything is just a few steps above "good". It's not fine dining but it is more than fine for me. I thought my food was great. My friend ordered a 14 euro version of the lunch special and hers was like a meal fit for a king. The price differential was clear in the variety differential and it all looked so amazing I almost went rogue and ate meat for once (she got the chicken tikka masala, I believe).
Pluses: there is stroller parking in the back if you are more polite than me and don't haul your (my) Bugaboo that is the size of a Land Rover into the actual restaurant. They have high chairs. They don't mind your kid "eating" while throwing his/her food on the floor (I always clean up after mine), and the interior plus the service makes you feel like you're dining someplace special vs. schlepping around in your sweaty mom Lululemons frantically shoving massive mounds of food down your throat in case your kid loses his/her shit and you have to make a run for it. I love this place. You should totally come here. All of the specials look out of this world and I can tell you that the veggie options are some of the best in town. read more
