King prawns tandoori with Nan bread
    Gustavo A.

Supposedly one of if not the best Nepalese restaurant in Helsinki! Delicious Asian cuisine with many dishes and variety. Good for a nice dinner or lunch gathering, place is small but mostly no need to reserve ahead. The decor is a bit cliche but don't let that put you off. Waitresses are friendly. Try one of the tandoori dishes and you will surely appreciate it!

I have a baby (whom I mention every chance I get, because kid = sympathy) and he is exhausting. So Pikku-Nepal, you can thank him for my initial enthusiasm. Starving or not (and I usually am), I don't like crappy food. Pikku-Nepal is anything but. While their salad bar left a bit to be desired (Satkar has spoiled me), they still do a pretty great job providing the basics: lettuce, some dressed salads, corn, etc. It is enough to keep you full while waiting for the main meal. Their lunch special is outstanding. I had the saag with rice, daal, and some other side for around 9 euro. Standard but a great value. They also win "Best Naan" award from me. Even I ate it and I usually don't eat naan. I wish they offered papadum like Satkar does - that would take them up to 5 stars for me. Here's the summary: super flavorful everything. Nothing is an afterthought here, like it can be at other similar spots at lunch time. The presentation is lovely, service is good, they are patient with folks with babies (they do have baby seats but they're limited). Everything is just a few steps above "good". It's not fine dining but it is more than fine for me. I thought my food was great. My friend ordered a 14 euro version of the lunch special and hers was like a meal fit for a king. The price differential was clear in the variety differential and it all looked so amazing I almost went rogue and ate meat for once (she got the chicken tikka masala, I believe). Pluses: there is stroller parking in the back if you are more polite than me and don't haul your (my) Bugaboo that is the size of a Land Rover into the actual restaurant. They have high chairs. They don't mind your kid "eating" while throwing his/her food on the floor (I always clean up after mine), and the interior plus the service makes you feel like you're dining someplace special vs. schlepping around in your sweaty mom Lululemons frantically shoving massive mounds of food down your throat in case your kid loses his/her shit and you have to make a run for it. I love this place. You should totally come here. All of the specials look out of this world and I can tell you that the veggie options are some of the best in town.

And they offer naan bread with every meal - that is really a good point for me. Good service and large portions of food. It is also worth mentioning that a lot of people from Nepal go there - cannot be more authentic than that. I will surely visit that place again next time I'm in town!

Deal with it, natives…read more There are a lot of things I like to bitch about back home in San Francisco or New York, too. I am an equal opportunity critic. I notice that doesn't always go over well here. Too bad. On that note, Satkar is by far and away the closest thing to the REAL Indian food I grew up with in San Francisco, the land of cheap, delicious, authentic ethnic foods. Satkar is like the best of both worlds: outstanding and authentic Indian food at dirt cheap prices at lunch time (€8.50 for lunch deal - main, side, raita, rice, salad bar, and potato salad or special salad of the day), fantastic service, and a really lovely and comfortable interior. The Aloo Ghobi and Chicken Tikka Masala exceeded all expectations and the service is quite honestly among the best I've enjoyed in Helsinki in 2 years. Smiles, conversation, a genuine interest in whether or not we enjoy our meal...where am I!?!?!? Since moving here, I've been unhappy with the lack of really good Indian cuisine but Satkar has changed all of that. Satkar is now in my Top 5 favorite places to eat in Helsinki. Outstanding! Bravo! Even if the food was just ok, I'd come back again and again for the wonderfully warm customer service alone. Thanks for making me feel at home and thanks for filling my belly with the best saag aloo ghobi I've had in 5 months or so.
