I had a wonderful meal here. The spiciness was perfect, the flavors were well balanced and the naan was large and perfectly baked. Best Nepalese food I have had in several years. The atmosphere was cozy and the staff spoke perfect English with subtle humor. Thoroughly enjoyed this experience.

Everest Katajanokka is probably the best Nepalese restaurant in Helsinki. The food is excellent while the stuff is always very friendly.

Was jet lagged having just got to Helsinki and didn't realize a mango lassi was exactly what I needed.

There are a lot of Indian/Nepalese restaurants in Helsinki, so I decided to never eat at the same…read moreone twice. Tonight I took the metro to a random stop I've never explored before and ended up here at Nilgiri. It is definitely a small place with exactly seven tables for four. Another table and myself were the only ones here. And some lady came and got take-out. I ordered the Sabji ko Pakoda (deep fried veggies. I think we call them veggie fritters in the US) and Nilgiri Mixmas Karai which is a variety of lamb, chicken, prawns, paneer and veggies in a spicy tomato spinach sauce. It was served with basmati rice and naan. The Sabji ko Pakoda needed salt and there wasn't any on the table. The dipping sauce it was served with also needed salt. Otherwise it was fine. Just a bit bland. That would have knocked off 1/2 star, but the rest was delicious. The Nilgiri Mixmas Karai was very nice, spicy enough that I had to blow my nose, but not too spicy. Just right for my tastes. The spinach in the sauce gave it a good deep color. When the meats and veggies were eaten, there was plenty of sauce left to scoop onto the naan. Good food. This would have been a 4 1/2 for the bland fried veggies, but I scored based on the main dish.

We went in for a quick take away and that's what we got. We ordered vegetarian meals and they were…read moreready in about 5mins. The meals were plentiful and tasted like regular Nepalese restaurants in the city. The use of spices seems to be a bit mild as a standard. Friends of spicier food should ask for extra. One portion can easily satisfy two average joes.

I will never stop complaining about the price of mediocre food in Helsinki. Deal with it, natives…read more There are a lot of things I like to bitch about back home in San Francisco or New York, too. I am an equal opportunity critic. I notice that doesn't always go over well here. Too bad. On that note, Satkar is by far and away the closest thing to the REAL Indian food I grew up with in San Francisco, the land of cheap, delicious, authentic ethnic foods. Satkar is like the best of both worlds: outstanding and authentic Indian food at dirt cheap prices at lunch time (€8.50 for lunch deal - main, side, raita, rice, salad bar, and potato salad or special salad of the day), fantastic service, and a really lovely and comfortable interior. The Aloo Ghobi and Chicken Tikka Masala exceeded all expectations and the service is quite honestly among the best I've enjoyed in Helsinki in 2 years. Smiles, conversation, a genuine interest in whether or not we enjoy our meal...where am I!?!?!? Since moving here, I've been unhappy with the lack of really good Indian cuisine but Satkar has changed all of that. Satkar is now in my Top 5 favorite places to eat in Helsinki. Outstanding! Bravo! Even if the food was just ok, I'd come back again and again for the wonderfully warm customer service alone. Thanks for making me feel at home and thanks for filling my belly with the best saag aloo ghobi I've had in 5 months or so.
