I…read moreused to work at another business in the same plaza, so I came to Piggly Wiggly several times a week to buy snacks, energy drinks, etc. Because I normally used the self checkout (as I usually had only an item or two), I almost always encountered a certain gentleman who was supervising the area. I don't know his name. He's a middle-aged white guy, in good shape, and friendly. Every time I came in, he just treated me like a true friend -- not a customer service "friend," but a real friend. He asked me how my day was, joked around with me, gave me a genuine smile, and really made me feel welcome. This is the reason I come to Piggly instead of Food Lion most of the time.

I told her the young man was already helping me. She turned around and asked him what I ordered then another lady came over and scolded him for using the wrong slicer.They both just looked at him and shook there heads.Thats not how you should treat new employees. Then when I went to the register the girl working there was telling people to get in another line cause she was already backed up. Being that this Food Lion is one of convenience, I frequent this particular location (beats lunch…read morehour traffic in a city not known for traffic to get to a bigger retailer). They do well to have things in stock, and the management is some of the best that you could ask for, in my experience. The reason I've rated this particular one the way I did is due to several poor experiences I've had while visiting, and being that it was more than one I'd say that's fair game. For one, I'm almost never greeted with the familiar "Welcome to Food Lion". Big deal right? How about completing an entire transaction without being spoken to? Ok, stuff happens right? The pain point for me lies in the issues I've had using my MVP. I've had multiple experiences where my transaction was either rushed past me using my MVP or them using theirs. This severely hurts the brand, and makes the experience frustrating at times at the register. It's not all of the cashiers though, as a decent amount of them are super friendly. Customer service is a huge selling point for me. But if MVP is not a make or break point for you, this store will suit your needs just fine.

Tonight is a perfect example (please check your tapes, as the video will support my statement). 3 cashiers, but only 2 lines open, 2 cashiers having a prolonged, silly conversation with the women in front of me, which included the 3rd cashier, kind of dancing from iregister to register talking to my cashier and the customer ahead of me. This went on and on (around 7pm) , with other cashiers stopping by while is continued. I've learned that complaining only gets you worse service and an attitude, so I simply beat it. But why? Do you teach cashier to annoy the masses at the expense of the "employee friends"? I assume that one of the many other cashier that wandered by (shift change?) could have intervened, rather than participating, but of course, the only person that minded was me. So is an 10 minutes, 3 times a week, a big deal? 30 minutes x52 weeks is 1,560 minutes or 26 hours..... a year.... you might not care, but there are much better things to do with those hours than to listen to two women repeat the words "filet mignon" over and over.

Merchandise is well stocked and the produce looked good. Prices are quite decent. Perhaps a little higher than Walmart but definitely lower than Harris Teeter. Good quality and a good selection. Today the prices are skyrocketing but at PW, they are OVER skyrocketing, it's almost to the point of price gouging. If you're looking for clean, this is the place, it is very clean inside but maybe it's clean inside because people don't want to go there because it's not the friendliest place I've been and even the cash register (self-checkout) isn't friendly, I couldn't remember where to enter my customer ID, finally found it... I also dropped my item on the scanner and we had an error, I had to wait until a group of workers that were talking about music on the checkout line beside me!! Finally she (I'm guessing the front end manager) saw that we needed help, after my husband said "yep, we're waiting on assistance" because the register says "please wait for assistance". She walked closer to the register but never came over and never said a thing and went back to her friends/workers and continued talking about music. I was at the store on 10/16/25 at 11:51AM R024. The person called and left a message telling me that if I didn't call him back, he would return the items to the store. I called back and the phone number just hung up on me. I tried to text, no answer, I called customer service, no help at all. The items that I needed for my granddaughters picnic tomorrow were returned to the store. The most horrible service ever. If I had Target close by, I would use Target they're great about it. They normally deliver within two hours with no extra charge. If I could give no stars, that's what they'd get.

This Walmart does a relatively great job with keeping their inventory stocked. It's in a convenient…read morelocation and the parking lot, though packed a lot, makes for great parking. And even then, you know, it's Walmart and the only one in Kinston so you should expect that. The cashiers are friendly here. They close at 12 AM so be advised. I haven't heard of any conflicts appearing in the parking lot in my many times there. They have self service by both entrances, with registers in-between them.

These are your classic general stores with hot plate lunches and breakfast served throughout the day It's a small little place in a small little town just outside of Ayden a industrial town. They no longer have diesel pumps of course have gas and alcohol beer sales etc. Big on people traveling home or to work locals. they were pulled up years ago but they do have truck parking a lot of local truck drivers Park and leave their stuff here. It has a very strong following of locals every now and then a traveler will pass through but for the most part this is very big with the locals. I was hungry I saw the truck parking I pulled in I came in and used the bathroom it was clean this is an old building. They had a hot deli bar with plate lunches that were just getting finished it would be about another hour if you wanted Burger hamburgers and more stuff cooked till the dinner lady comes in and Cooks things ready until 5:00 or 6:00 p.m.. They had a still nice warm big giant chopped hamburger and brown gravy I got some nice hot french fries with brown gravy and it was very good. This is the kind of place where if you're a trial or you probably wouldn't pay twice a look and just Cruise right by headed up towards the main city. But it's classic little roadside stores that keep small little towns thriving.
