As far as hotel bars go, the Pigeon Post is a-okay in my book. Located in the lobby of the Hilton Hotel in Cologne, Germany, this newly remodeled bar has a funky, stylish, and modern atmosphere that goes well with the hotel's vibe. There's plenty of seating and the bar is decently stocked.
When you check-in at the hotel, HHonors rewards members get a couple of tokens that are good for drinks in the bar -- well, just beer, wine, or soda (no liquor). That made us both laugh out loud. The house wine is decent (this is Europe, after all), all Old World choices. I wouldn't seek out this bar as a destination for drinks, but it's a good place to grab a nightcap if you are staying at the hotel.
I opted for a Coke Zero and a glass of Bordeaux. The wine was much better than anything you'd get when you order a house wine in the U.S., and the soda was served in a tiny little bottle (and it was cold), with a GLASS OF ICE! Yes, ICE CUBES! Overall, a massive win in my book!
Their gimmick is a menu of gin and tonics, with all sorts of different gin options. That's not one of my favorite cocktails, but at least they fully embrace their "thing." They also offer a small tapas style menu (but we didn't sample any food).
I really dug the decor of this bar too, it reminded me of a writer's lodge if it was designed by Wes Anderson. Check out my photos of the interior design, it's a really neat space.
The service was quite good and the staff all speak excellent English, so there were zero language barriers. They also happily provide complimentary glasses of tap water if you ask, which is a major win in Germany. read more
