Lawn mowers while we try to tee off. In the fairways, on the tees etc. I guess that's what you get for trying to get out early! The course itself was beautifully manicured and the tees were level. Like others noted, the front nine was much "friendlier" and the back was more of a challenge. Had the olive burger and it was fantastic. Here's the ugly....not a rake to be found and the most unkept bunkers ever. When I inquired about it I was told that the younger generation doesn't use them (takes) and so they won't be provided. Maybe I'm old school, but bunkers are a part of golf, and just because some don't take care of them doesn't mean others won't. It also certainly doesn't release the club from starting each day with them well manicured. That's part of what I feel I pay for. All that said would I go back? I would, but I think I'd smuggle a rake on the course, and clean it up along the way!

The first time I scheduled for 10am on a Friday to correspond with my wife's lesson, they rescheduled my slot for 10:30am and said I shouldn't have been able to schedule that time. Odd because their system allowed it. The second time I scheduled an hour for a Friday afternoon. During the book it said it was $35. a few days before my booking I got a notice that my slot was rescheduled for the same day and time, but they didn't say why. My wife and I got there and the server set us up and we used our slot. Then they brought the bill over and they charged us $50 for the hour! If they were switching prices we should have been told up front. I don't plan on using them again. I would rather pay more up front for a business that doesn't "bait and switch". A really poor experience.

There are water jugs available for drinking halfway through which is a really nice and an appreciated touch. Benches scattered throughout the course for leisure viewing. Golf carts run great and they go decently fast. Push carts are free if you choose not to ride. It is a cheaper golf course in the greater Grand Rapids area; $17 riding, $15 walking. They have a driving range across the road too. I like the props they have set out there including a submarine. Makes the range more fun. Great golf course to start playing at if you're just getting into golf.

Mini golf was fun and just enough challenge. At first, there was no one in front of us or behind us. However, the crowd soon caught up to us. So we had to wait for people in front of us and then people were waiting behind us. It could hardly be helped though since the golf course is small and compact. The bowling was fun and they even had option of using bumpers. My kid had a good time and it was nice that there was no one else bowling around us. The arcade was nice. It had plenty of free games. The pay games were mostly the claw games where you can win a stuffed animal or plastic duck. They offer food, ice cream, and drinks. Ice cream was delicious and my kid approved! It is not a hard course by most players standards however they don't advertise to be a Pro tournament course. I hold an annual charity golf scramble here every september and they are very accommodating. I love the course and the people. Outside of American Dunes which is under construction, It is the closest to me. Having a great experience there is about timing - avoiding busy times and league nights. I like West Ottawa when I just want to play a casual, low cost round and not make a big production out of it. Greens are better than you would expect, fairways are of basic level quality. The course design is not highly challenging, but it is a relaxing easy round. My biggest suggestion to all golf courses is to have golfers adhere to tee times. If I have an 11:20 tee time, I don't want to walk up to a line of people who are teeing off early.
