A small quaint sized restaurant is serving up favorites like Tri-Tip with coleslaw and a baked potato is what I ordered. A strawberry watermelon limonade was refreshing in this heat and service is fast and hands on deck. I don't think I waited more than ten minutes for the tri tip dinner plate to come out, service here is pretty fast. The ambiance is casual and cool and delivered a good dinner and good time. I'm thinking to try the meatloaf sandwich next time! It's nice to not sit in a hustle and bustle type place and enjoy your dinner. read more

I'm sorry to have to do this but.... This place USED to be great. Unfortunately it's one of those stories where shit goes south and it goes south fast. The new owner doesn't seem to care about quality and it tastes like it. The meat tasted old. There's no better way to describe it. $30 lunch for a few pork ribs and some fatty old tasting brisket ends. Not to mention they totally forgot to bring me the ribs until I reminded them. The meat had a bad taste to it, like it had gone bad or was past the point of passable but they served it anyways, maybe hoping the taste would be buried with enough bbq sauce. Well, that couldn't even cover up the bad flavor. I did ask clearly for no sour cream on my potato, which he acknowledged... and yet it came with sour cream on top. Did I complain? No. I just dealt with it as I realized it was going to be my last time there. I really didn't want to leave this review but in case the owner reads this, here is your advice. Do better. Care about the quality of your product and you will get customers. Perhaps that is why I was served old tasting meat because your turn around is not so good. Best BBQ restaurant to get 1 star by a girl who only rated Baze Pizza 5 stars. First. Is this the best BBQ place in OC? No. Is it better than Lucille's, absolutely! Sauce: Thin Texas style sauce. Yes, its ketchup base but there's a bit if complexity going on in there. Spicy has a good kick and decent flavor. Meats from good to great: Ribs. Well smoked, good flavor, unique rub that my gf and I both enjoyed. Definitely something I'd order again. House Sausage: comes peppers & onions style. Definitely Kielbasa, obviously house made or made for this restaurant. Color gives it away. I'm really impressed. Only complaint, I'd like more peppers and onions next time because they were delicious. Smoked Turkey: double smoked breast meat that was absolutely phenomenal. I did not think it would be that good. Tri Tip: the rub on this absolutely blew our minds. Cracked black pepper and Santa Maria style. Better than the places I had in SLO (San Louis Obispo.) Sides, in no particular order: Greens were good. Best I've had in OC, but most places in OC dont even offer greens. IMO, better than Georgia's greens, which are above average. Baked Beans: average, little too watery, good flavor. Fries: above average, good seasoning, would order again Mexican Corn: Its elote folks. Pretty good standard elote at that. We came here on a Tuesday for their $3 tacos Tuesday special. The tortilla is so delicious, handmade. The barbecue meat was tender, juice and the shrimp was comes to perfection. I squeezed some lime, added their spicy BBQ sauce and their green sauce and everything tasted balanced. I would definitely come back. Funny story, my husband and I both ordered another taco bc everything was so delicious but then had regrets BC our eyes were bigger than our stomach haha. When we go back, I would probably order the shrimp and tri tip (I felt they gave more for these). Service was friendly and plenty of parking. I really wanted to love everything from this spot because the greens with smoked turkey were absolutely delicious, easily a 10/10. They were flavorful, well-seasoned, and exactly the kind of side I was hoping for. Unfortunately, the mac & cheese was a completely different experience. I was expecting a baked, Southern-style mac & cheese, but what I received seemed much more like stovetop mac & cheese. More importantly, it lacked so much flavor that I honestly could barely taste any cheese. I ended up mixing the greens into the mac & cheese just to give it some seasoning and flavor. Even the bacon bits failed to elevate the flavor. That was especially disappointing because the whole reason I ordered sides was to make dinner easier , I had the protein covered and thought I could save myself an hour in the kitchen. For the price and expectation, I would have rather just made my own mac & cheese. Greens: 10/10. Mac & cheese: 2/10. I'm not writing this to bash the restaurant because clearly they can cook , those greens proved that. This place is small, but they are turning out some of the better bbq in socal. They definitely do not overprice like a lot of other bbq places in OC. Not sure how I missed this little gem. The food was not what we expected being the price on the tacos were so reasonable on Taco Tuesday. All of the different meats were so delicious. Picked up the Monday special full rack baby back ribs to go around Noon. There weren't any other customers so my food was ready very quickly. The ribs were meaty and tender but not exactly falling off the bones. Mildly flavored so the sauces did save the day. Cornbread side is moist and fluffy. I did notice that to go orders ($28.33 before tax) cost a bit more than advertised special ($26.99, see attached picture), perhaps that's normal for them? Just have not seen that elsewhere. Probably the worst bbq I have ever had. The Mac n cheese was grainy, the meats were all unseasoned, the bbq sauce was ketchup and the spicy version was just spicy ketchup. The only thing that tasted good were the mango and strawberry watermelon lemonades. read more

Ever since I started working and living in the area I've been on the lookout for decent bbq joints. Somehow though I've never come across Pig n' Pig before. And that's a shame because it turns out there's a tremendous stop for bbq right in my backyard. Not only were the pork ribs well above average, but I found the burnt ends and baked beans some of the best I've had in California. I would definitely call those the standout items on the menu. I think the only lackluster side was the mashed potatoes, but--I mean--how much can you do with potatoes mashed to all hell? If anything I appreciated that it was one item that I could fall back on to get away from the strong presence of the baked beans and burnt ends. I had hoped the ribs were a bit better as that is my favorite bbq staple, especially St. Louis ribs, but it's very hard to compete when I've had some of the best ribs in the country. It still won't stop me from ordering it and--who knows--this may have just been an off day. Again, order the burnt ends and baked beans, because those really rocked my socks off at first bite. I appreciate the portion size though, and if you come w a group of friends, it's definitely a nice shareable size.
