I saw Dr. Pierce-Davis years ago when I was experiencing a traumatic divorce. My ex-spouse is a distant memory now, but I will never forget one of my sessions with Dr. Davis.
My spirits were crushed and anxiety was unbearable. Divorce was one of the most painful things I had ever experienced. Very emotional, difficult to think and communicate. Dr. Pierce was supposed to help me through it.
One moment, from one session, I will never forget:
[midway through session] Holding back tears, I said that my ex-spouse called me their "favorite mistake." Carol looked down, made this awful grin, and said, "That's actually kind of cute." She even seemed to let out a little snicker as she said it.
I immediately felt anger, sadness, and betrayed. How could my therapist take pleasure in my agony? I was insulted and she laughed it off as cute.
It was one of the most awful feelings I ever felt coming from a trusted medical professional. Dr. Pierce-Davis's face in that moment will forever remain imprinted on my memory.
