We were there earlier this winter and they were the only pie place open that day. There were people from Texas and other states there waiting when we got there 20 minutes before they opened. The atmosphere was AUTHENTIC! The green chile stew was very good, but not very spicey. Neither of the pies that we had were outstanding: we had the pecan and a chocolate cream something. I'm glad we went once, but I wouldn't go out of my way again to go there. read more

Great place to visit!! Very quaint and friendly!! I had the New Mexico Apple with green Chile's and pine nuts!! Very good and somewhat spicy! A must!! read more

Great pie and a quaint little town. Well worth the stop. I had the cherry pie -- great. Well balanced cherry tart to sweetness. Kiddos gave thumbs up. Rustic but clean and pleasant. read more

We go out of our way to ensure hat we hit this place just right on our trip from Texas to Arizona. We have never been let down. We even show up after the closing time to still be ushered in and treated like family. Rather you pick the blueberry or cherry (my favorites) or the chocolate pecan or coconut cream (family favorites), you really can't go wrong. Roll on in and grab some pie guys! read more

Lemon chess pie, ala mode. SO GOOD. Wonderful friendly staff, and Willie Nelson was on the radio so that rounds this review out to 5 stars.

My friend and I just had to stop in on my way through Pie Town, we had heard so much about it. Everything was fabulous! My friend had the pecan pie and I had the Moonglow which is blueberry and Peach. Both were amazing! I will certainly be stopping in again on my next trip through. read more

So, we drove from Grants to Pie Town, down a 26 mile gravel road. We were very excited to have this pie that the Food Network showcased. We arrived on Saturday at 11:30, only to discover that the famous Green Chile Apple Pie had not even gone in the oven! I explained that we drove 26 miles of gravel to get to them, and the response we got was, "well, next time you come out be sure to call first" Are you freaking kidding me???? Will NEVER go back!!! I am instead simply going to make my own damn pie! read more

We happened upon this place on our 'tour of the country' vacation, thinking it must be a joke, and boy were we surprised!! The Apricot Pie was unbelievable, and we will def. make it a must-do stop on all our future trips. read more

This place has it all - ambiance - charming owner - friendly wait staff. If you have never had decision making challenges you will here. The pie choices will dazzle, so have a piece and take another with you. The food ain't too bad either. The black bean soup was to die for and my husband still raves about the green chili stew. This place is a jewel on the lesser-traveled byways of the "Land of Enchantment." Oh, I forgot to mention, if you call 24 hours in advance they will have your favorite pie waiting for you. We walked in to a rhubard pie hot out the oven. read more

Get here early and try the NM Apple pie. This one is excellent. Green chili makes a starring role here. It has heat but not too much. Ask for a la mode to make it a real treat. Enjoy a different century here. Put the cell phone away and just enjoy visiting with the people who work here, live here, and stop here along the way. read more

Thank goodness they weren't out of pie is all I can say. We had driven 6 hours from Phoenix to go to the Daily Pie and it was closed. See my previous review. So we meandered up the road and happened upon this place. It was open so we went in. We didn't even know it was there. We tried the chocolate meringue pie (ok) and the peanut butter pie. My husband said the PB pie was the best he had ever had. Then the next day we stopped in on the way back. The Daily pie had no full pies so we came back to see if they did. They didn't either but they offered to make us a Pie-Pourri. It was a combination of 5 slices of pies put into one tin for the drive back. We got the chocolate meringue, the pecan, the apple crumb x2 and the green chili apple. We served them as dessert for our 4th of July picnic. Of all of the ones we got the green chili apple was outstanding! read more

What's the Sara Lee jingle? I'm thinking about Sara Lee pies because while my pie from Pie-o-neer is beautiful to look at, it has absolutely no flavor. read more

A fun diversion but thing worth a serious detour. Pie was good but not great wth the exception of chocolate cream. Decor is fun but self consciously kitschy. Highlight of the visit was the 75 yo cross dressing customer in a short blue denim skirt and Candies. read more

I'm so disappointed. We were traveling through Pie Town, NM and when I saw the pie shop I thought I'd stop for a piece of coconut cream pie. They were out so I decided to try their pecan oatmeal pie (not many pecans). They put pumpkin pie spice in it!! Really nasty combination. Long story shorter, I paid $6.30 for a piece of pie that was inedible. I took a couple of bites and threw the rest away. read more

Truly a charming little stop in the desert. I was heading to the Very Large Array and this was the perfect fortifying station for a bowl of potent green chile stew and, of course, delectable pie. You will have a hard time choosing. Oat pecan was close, but I went with the pear/cranberry pie. Absolutely delicious. Economical, with friendly service--should you find yourself in this corner of the country, be sure to drop in for true Americana. read more

We visited here four years ago, and fell in love with the place. It was on our short list of places to get to on our vacation this week - in fact, i specifically checked to make sure they would be open this week (honestly we cancelled a trip earlier this year when we realized the shop was still closed for the winter). Kathy and Stan have switched to only selling pie (and ice cream), so they can focus on the good stuff. Yes, between us we had 7 slices of pie at the shop, and took one with us back to ABQ (chocolate chess red chile - yum!). I can't tell you which is the best; trust me, that will simply be a matter of preference. Suffice to say that the options range from chocolate and coconut cream to pumpkin to apple macaroon to blueberry, and others I didn't mention. The pies are not super sweet, and the ingredients shine to perfection. I did not see one dissatisfied person, well, except one soul who apparently wanted a sugar-free pie but had not called ahead to request such an option (word to the wise . . . ). So, when you have a day to kill, and want to take a long drive to Catron County on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday (CHECK THE CALENDAR FIRST) for pie, go. Just go. read more

Seriously, as good as it gets. It's not just that Pie-O-Neer has a great name and delicious pies to match, it's the atmosphere. Picture yourself on a long, long drive over hours and hours of beautiful New Mexico landscape. You're only problem = your getting hungry and there is nothing (absolutely nothing) in sight. Suddenly, on the horizon comes Pie Town and the lovely oasis Pie-o-Neer Cafe. Warm and toasty with a big, wood burning stove, the nicest proprietors who make you feel at home (and will play a little music with you if you are so lucky), yummy homemade food topped off by a selection of about 4 pies in traditional and/or creative combinations. Each one better than the next. Did I dream it? Maybe. But I hope Pie-O-Neer cafe really exists because its a pie wonderland. p.s. wait. I know it wasn't a dream cause I still have the coffee mug! A ha! read more

My wife and I left Caballo SP headed for Springerville, AZ this morning. My plan was to stop in Pie Town for lunch. Yes, I know that their web site says to call ahead and ask what pies might be available today but I figured I would just roll the dice and take whatever we could get.....if they were open. We were not even sure they would be open on Sunday. Yes, they were open when we got there just before 2pm and the note on the door said open till 4pm. We did check online and found out they had just opened for the season a week ago. Was there any pie left? Yes, 1 slice of pecan, several slices of the Pear Ginger, a piece or two of the Chocolate...something pie and a whole Apple Cranberry pie. I was all game for the Apple Cranberry and my wife was going for the Pear Ginger. We both ordered today's special Green Chile Stew ... ; Pork, potatoes, pinto beans, green chile, onion and garlic. It came with one tortilla if you ordered the bowl. The cup comes with crackers. WoW!!! it was absolutely delicious and it sure had that "more" taste even when our dishes were empty. But alas we must now partake in pie. When I ordered my lunch the waitress told us, when we asked what pies were available, that they had a Coconut Cream and a Cherry Pie in the oven that should be coming out in 15 minutes or so. Of course the Coconut Cream had to sit for a while to cool down so it could be cut and not run all over the place. I'm a big Cherry Pie fan and this pie was very good even though they did not make it with sour pie cherries. The crust was the hit on the pies as well....I wonder if it was made with lard...maybe that's why it was so darn good. My wife's Pear Ginger was one of those food items that screamed...."give me more!!!". And the ambiance of this cafe....indescribable unless....you come from an era before the 70's. With a wood burning stove sitting in the middle and tables that look like the old dining table from home along with the old cafe counter with stools sure took me back in time when such a place was where the locals gathered and gossiped about everything and solved all of that day's issues over a cup of coffee. That is the Pie-O-Neer Cafe. We will stop again...and again... read more

Once again, work had us driving through Pie Town. We pulled up and saw the pie lady standing outside. They would not be open for another 20 min, but she let us come in and purchase a slice from the day before. I loved the sweet potato pecan from the first visit and was dying for a slice. Since we were there before opening, the days pies were not quite done. So we had to see what was left from the day before. I was lucky and the pie lady offered me pecan oatmeal. It was sooooo good!! The pie here is excellent! I love that work sends us out to Pie Town and I love yesterdays pie! read more

You can always skip the pie and coffee, and have the green chile stew instead. I did, and it was worth it. Decidedly chunky, and the chile hot enough, although I do like a bit more heat. The only thing keeping this from a 5 star review was the use of saltine crackers instead of a nice, warm tortilla. Not really a big deal since the stew was so tasty. Oh, and my wife did have pie, and said it was amazing. read more

On a road trip from Phoenix to Austin, we found ourselves in Pie Town, NM around lunch time. We decided to stop in at Pie-O-Neer mostly due to the Yelp reviews but also because we were unsure of what lies past Pie Town (nothing!). This is hands down the best pie I have ever eaten! They have a limited food menu (Green Chile Stew and Quiche) and they suggest you order your pie first as they can get busy at a moments notice. True story! When we arrived we were the only people and by the time we got our drinks there were about five other tables that had just arrived. We tried the Chocolate Cream, Coconut Cream and Cherry Pie. All equally delicious and perfectly prepared. The Green Chile Stew was phenomenal. The staff treated everyone like they were guests in their own home. If we ever find ourselves anywhere near Pie Town we will most definitely be back. read more

Went to the Pie Festival on 09-09-17. What great pies ,nice people and great food. Ate lots of pies and brought pies back home to share. All the pies were great as usual. YUM! The pie in this place is delicious. My husband and I each tried a slice and then decided to purchase a whole pies worth of slices for takeaway! The customer service was friendly and efficient and the place has a really nice relaxed feel to it. Everyone was chatting away to each other by the end of our meal (and we were complete strangers from overseas!). A few bits and pieces of craft for sale and some photography from a local guy on the walls for those interested. If you're going this wa, do yourself a favour and stop for pie. read more

Wow! Friendliest restaurant ever! They do offer sandwiches, but we arrived about 2:30 pm so we wanted pie. We settled on Blackberry. Crust was perfectly crisp and the filling was all blackberry. No gelatin or anything. Plus they don't dump sugar in it. We have never had a better pie. One review said the pies were expensive. Really? I had dessert the night before at a bar/restaurant. Paid $7 for a sliver of cheesecake that was manufactured somewhere else. We bought two pies for the road (Pear/ginger/cranberry/almond and coconut buttermilk). They said the pies are good for 3 days, but there is no way we're going to be able to resist them for that long. If the sandwiches are as good as the three pies we got, look out. Plus the pies were still warm from the oven. Had to have ice cream with it. YUM! read more

As one gets older, you reach a point in your life where pride in your job is what keeps you clocking in every day. Money and public recognition are good things, but reaching near perfection in your craft is most fulfilling. Which brings us to the subject of pies. Not just ordinary pies, but likely the best pies you will ever eat. When asked by my co-workers what I was going to do this weekend, I replied going to drive over two hours to eat some pie. Most questioned my judgement. Plenty of pie in ABQ they said. I will be happy to report that our pie pilgrimage was successful and wouldn't anyone drive the distance to taste the best of anything, pie or otherwise. Kathy and Stan, the pie wizards of pie town, are baking pies just for the love of perfection. It really does not matter what we ate. Everything was perfect, from flaky crust to wonderful fillings. These are no chain restaurant pies, walk into the cafe and you are immediately overwhelmed with baking pie smell. Make sure you email or call ahead for a to go pie. Bring some forks from home, you will need them for the trip home. read more

Stopped in the have pie in Pietown just because we were traveling though and felt we could't miss such a cliche opportunity. Much to our delight the pie was AWESOME! The owners were wonderfully warm and friendly. Put it on your bucket list! read more

After seeing an episode on the Food Network featuring the pie shops in Pie Town, NM, we drove out of our way on our trip home to Tucson just to check it out. The cafe that was featured on the show was closed that particular day but, believe me, the Pie-o-Neer was a perfect stop! I had a cup of their green chili stew and my daughter sampled their chocolate chess with chili pie. Both were delicious! I brought 5 samples of pies including their Mexican Apple Pie made with pine nuts and green chilies. All were excellent. I believe I could have ordered a whole pie in advance but I had no cell service throughout this whole section of New Mexico. (Kudos to Verizon! I have AT&T which had no coverage!). The staff was so friendly and they showed us their scrapbook showing all the magazines that have written articles featuring them. Very impressive!! Well worth the extra time on our trip -- and an extra bonus was the beautiful drive through the mountains instead of a long freeway drive! We want to go back! read more

Forget about nice town ladies making homemade pies for passing truckers. I was the first customer just as Pie O Neer opened in the morning on a weekday. There were about five pies on display. The blueberry pie was dry and flattened down like the cat had slept on it. I asked where the blueberries came from, and was told in a nasty tone "frozen on a truck." I was just in New England where I bought a fantastic blueberry pie for $12 made from the store's own fresh handpicked blueberries. The price for Pie O Neer's pie was $30!?! and I said "$30 for a pie?" The little militant owner lady yelled at me "This is not Walmart. Do you know how UNBELIEVABLY expensive it is to make a pie?" I actually contemplated buying a slice just to experience their $30 pie, but she kept yelling "The other places in town are even more expensive. This is not Walmart" I apologized for making her angry as she slammed the door behind me. I didn't see any truckers stopping in Pie Town for $30 pie. read more

We were on our way back to Washington State and came across the little Town of Pie Town. we had to stop by this Cafe. It had the best pie and great service. It was very clean as well. Disappointed in this community. 4 restaurants, all closed at 9:30 am. On a Saturday. And asking locals why?.., "thats pie town" their hours are whenever they want to be open around vacation, sleeping in etc. Save your gas, stop in Dateline if you are in area. No pie is worth it... read more

One of the highlights of our trip! The restrooms are for customers only so regardless of my weight loss aspirations and my strict diet i had no choice but to have a slice of pie! I chose the chocolate and it was rich and delicious! You could tell the ingredients were top notch. Crust was flaky and delicious! My husband enjoyed his blueberry just as much. The service was grand and the pie was affordably priced. For a small additional charge, a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream was added. Ordinarily i wouldn't indulge but the slice of pie was lonely. The calories were worth it! And the diet starts again tomorrow... Its not like you can find pie this good at home. There was live music being played. We stuffed ourself with pie while listening to a talented guitar player. The shop is cute, eclectic and cozy! I have always wanted to stop here and now im so glad we did! New fav on our travels thru NM! Be sure to call ahead for hours or to reserve your favorite flavor as they often sell out and do not stay open during off peak days and seasons. Its a mom and pop operation, not a convenience store- so be sure to find out if they are open if you are going out of your way to visit. Don't miss it! read more

Pie Town Pie - Entrance to pie heaven! - Bakeries Near Me - Pie Town, New Mexico

Is it really that difficult for this place to stock a couple of their top selling WHOLE pies to go? Apparently, if you want a whole pie you have to order it in advance over the phone. What's worse is that their website doesn't even warn you that you have to make phone orders. I'd be pissed if I drove out there specifically just to get one slice of pie. http://www.pieoneer.com/pies-at-pioneer.html#pieinfo read more

Who would have thought green chili in peach pie would be so good! Well worth the motorcycle ride into nowhere New Mexico!

WE used to go there, a 300 mile trip, for the great historical value of this place. They have removed 99% of the interesting things, and replaced it with a couple of booths, and a few of tables. It used to be really fun. You could read all about its history on the wall, and see all neat old photos. It was a great atmosphere. Now it is crappy. Nothing but a 'pie bar' that you have to walk up to and pick your piece of $6.00 pie, are rushed thru and ignored. All the ambience is gone. They expect you to grab a WOODEN fork.....and eat your pie and leave. We were surprised we got an actual plate and not a paper one. It is terrible. We were beyond disappointed. We will never go back again, it is gone.forever You used to be able to get soup or green chile stew and then dessert. It is beyond terrible. Whoever raves about this sure wasn't here when it was authentic. They have destroyed everything. Don't bother going. Its not worth the drive. read more
