We drove over 2 hours. Got there at 12:30 and it wasn't open yet. Some people had been waiting over an hour. Finally opened the doors and were told pies weren't ready yet. Would be an hour or so before they were cool enough to cut. What? Also website has menu listed but they do not serve food. Cool building but obviously won't go back. read more

If you find yourself in this remote location, stop by and have some pie. I was on a long cross-country trip and a major interstate accident forced me through here (I was familiar with it from an earlier trek). Last time through we were there before opening. This time, I didn't plan to stop for a meal or table service, but I bought a $36 pie. Worth...every...penny! I know it seems like a lot but it was really good. Enough said. read more

ONE HOUR and 30 MINUTES!!! Yep, 90 minutes and no food! We were seated, had our drinks and ordered as a car club arrived. 16 in their group. How do I know? I heard the guy headcount for the waitress. We ordered from our table as the car club scanned the day's pies and ordered from the counter. We asked for a BLT and bowl of chili. (Menu said best BLT in the world so of course we wanted to try it). And then we waited. Finally after the car club got their pies and coffee we thought our food would arrive. But no. The table next to us said service is slow, "real slow" one guy says with raised eyebrows. So we asked and were told by a woman from the kitchen (who looked overheated and overwhelmed) that she hadn't even started our order. Honestly, we weren't mad. We said ok, canceled our order. We paid for a soda and mini pie. Yet the owner acted defensive and insulted that we were leaving. Which was confusing. Why were we considered at fault? Did she really think we would wait even longer? For such a simple order. (I believe she was unaware of the situation. Still she was rude/unprofessional). Even our waitress kept apologizing to us over the owner's grumbling. Again, AN HOUR and A HALF! I was shocked when we got in our car and it said an hour and 45 minutes we had been there. (I'm not counting the time we took to sit down before ordering). Can't give a pie review, the whole experience left us ignored and unsettled so we threw the pie out. It's a cute place, be aware it's not the best managed place. Yet for pie and coffee, which is what we should have done, it's probably just fine. And remember, service is slow, real slow read more

A Must Stop for NM travelers!!! We stayed off freeways from Alamagordo to Flagstaff after a truly awe inspiring visit to White Sands Missile Range Museum. On the way to Flagstaff, we were lured to the Pie o Neer shop. The best pies and legacy photos of Pietown awaited us. The owner took time to walk through the historical photographs and memorabilia. A great experience! read more

Delicious pie. Delightful owner and staff. A real throwback to the stuff that matters. Good food. Good service. A nice atmosphere. That's it. Makes you feel connected again. PS do yourself a favor and take a New Mexican Apple pie to go. Yes, a whole pie. You'll be glad you did. read more

We've passed this place so many times and never stopped. So glad we did today. So cute inside and out with rockers on the porch. But the best is inside. Starting by being greeted by a very busy lady behind the counter. She still found the time to welcome us. The menu we asked for was a blackboard with 4-5 items. I remember seeing quiche, but home made pizza was it. After all it's pie! Then came the hard part, picking slices of pie. All looked wonderful. I chose apple with chilis. Had to try it. Beyond yummy. Wishing I'd bought the whole pie. Hubby chose pecan. He said the best he's had. They brought our slices of pie first! Beyond delicious. Then came the pizza along with a fresh greens salad with a delicious vinaigrette. Of course had to have something to take home. So chose a mini fresh peach pie for tomorrow. That is if it lasts that long. You must stop here. The place is filled with original photos of the people who've come before us. Who made this place what it is. Friendly staff, wonderful atmosphere, and the best ever food and PIE!!! read more

We stopped in at 4:15pm, after the posted closing time and were warmly greeted by the staff. We had 4 pieces of pie and coffee. My wife is a pie expert, and she proclaimed her cherry pie "great!". I had the Apple Macaroon, and I really liked the eggy top crust. It's hard to serve fresh pie all day long, but considering we arrived after closing the crusts on our pies were nice and flaky. Nice touches: fire burning in the wood stove, art gallery. I wish they had more than 1 bathroom (unisex), but if that's all I can complain about that indeed is high praise. If you are passing through this is a must-stop. read more

We were extremely disappointed. We drove out of our way due to recommendations and at the request of family to get some pie here. The sign on the door stated a noontime opening. There was a group of hikers on the porch and more and more people gathered outside, but the shop remained closed. The wind was howling and the hikers were freezing. Someone called the number in the door and it went to voicemail. People came and left. Around 12:30, a gentleman came up and said he had contacted the owner and they'd open soon. A short time later frazzled woman opened the door and said they weren't going to open. Then she noticed the locals in the group. She said she would let people inside, but they couldn't ask for anything. She said it would be an hour until any pies would be ready. What a terrible way to treat customers. So shameful. I'm glad the hikers got to go inside and warm up, but overall, it was a bad day in Pie Town. read more

I didn't have super high hopes, given how small and weathered Pietown is, but this place blew me away. Yes we had to wait a long time for our lunch (45 min) but they let us know ahead of time and when our food finally came (spinach/cheese quiche and beef stew) it was absolutely delicious, plentiful, with an excellent side salad and pecan muffin. We topped off with coconut cream pie and apple pie and they did not disappoint. If you're passing through Pietown, don't miss the chance to stop and enjoy. read more

What a wonderful little restaurant. They have a limited menu but lots of wonderful pie. When we got there the front porch was packed with musicians playing country music and happy people eating their favorite pie. The main reason we come to this restaurant and this part of the state is the annual Pie Festival. This will be are 6th year going to the Pie Festival and it seems it only gets bigger and better every year. read more

What an awesome stop on a roadie through New Mexico back roads! Like a pie oasis! Yummy pie! This kind of place (unique local flavor) is why I love road trips off the freeways! So if you are driving from Phoenix to Albuquerque or Santa Fe you can go this route. It adds about an hour to an hour and a half but you will be able to stop in Pie Town at the Pie-O-Neer and you will see other cool things like the Very Large Array (as seen in Contact, Terminator 3 and many other movies). We drove from Albuquerque to Pie Town just to visit this place. It was worth the drive. Not to mention the scenery is nice on the way over and back. I also liked seeing the VLA. As an added bonus, leave Albuquerque as early as possible so you can stop here too. Once we arrived at Pie-O-Neer, our senses were instantly heightened with the smell of sugar and butter. We like seeing how the place was decorated. I liked picking out which tee shirt I wanted. Our pies were all delicious. The feel of the smooth ice cream instantly complimented the amazing pie. I chose a slice of the blueberry pie. That dessert was worth my time and money spent on this day trip to Pie-O-Neer Cafe. Well done. read more

I struck Gold at Pie-O-Neer ;) Indeed a charming & rustic cafe full of lots of love & pie memorabilia all over the walls, you definitely know alot of love & passion was involved in this little "goldmine" I had the pleasure of speaking with Kathy over the phone a month ago about coming down and by golly she is the sweetest most passionate woman "Pioneer of Pies" you will ever speak to! She truly is such a gracious & lovely lady on the phone as well as in person. So glad to meet such a genuine & humble owner like this! We took the boys on a short road trip back in June and thought it would be the perfect weather for some sweet "Summer Skies & Pies". The drive down yonder is quite picturesque and not long as the scenery is simply peaceful & tranquil! We were the first to arrive as Kathy mentioned loads of folks come on down in anticipation of getting first dibs on the selections of Pies and she was right......glad we listened we ordered 4 different slice, blueberry, cherry, chocolate cream and the number one "Sweet Molasses" I really enjoyed all the pies however I do think they could be ALOT sweeter but hey maybe that's just me as I like to be extra "Sweeter" you know! The Aroma of fresh delicious Pies made with lot of sweet love and stellar customer service is what Pie-O-Neer stands for and certainty this little "Goldmine" should be on everyone's bucket list!~~~~Y'all come back now, y hear?~~ read more

People stop for pie here just like they have for decades. They named the place Pie Town for a reason and if you stop in at The Pie o Neer you'll get to find out why. I lucked out and snagged a chocolate cream slice fresh out of the oven. And as much of a coffee snob as I pretend to be - the classic Folgers coffee was a fresh and tasty side to a perfect meal... of pie. I guess they serve other things - but I was fixated on the pie. Up along the highway in the middle of, some-where - this is one of those treasures you'll be glad you came across. This is one of those places worth driving to, and the type of highway that motorcycle riders dream of. So go in search of Pie town and enjoy a slice of something yummy on the road less traveled - in the high roads of southwest New Mexico. read more

Pie Town Pie - Very Berry Pie from the Pie-O-Neer Pie Shop - Bakeries Near Me - Pie Town, New Mexico

Wow! Just WOW! I proclaim this to be the best pie place in America. Somewhere between the VLA and Gallup, NM was a wide spot in the road and the name Pie Town on the map. I was expecting a nice photo stop and cute name and fell in love that day. We pulled in front of the Pie-O-Neer about a half hour past closing. A truck that passed us a half hour earlier and 50 MPH faster was parked in the front . We walked up to the door that was still unlocked and were welcomed in. We only wanted some of the free smells that was emanating from inside. The staff was gathered at the counter talking with the locals and speed offender who was on a cross country trip from Boston to LA and made the several hundred mile detour to get some sweet, sweet pie. We were told that most was gone and there was 3 random slices left. An apple & hatch chili, a mixed berry, and a sweet potato and something-or-other mix with it. We talked with the staff, locals, and speed offender before headed out to the table outside to have our try at the sweet, sweet pie. The apple and hatch chili was the best of the lot. It was sweet with a bite and completed by ala-mode-ing the heck outa that thing. If they have it...try it. The very berry and sweet potato concoction of something-or-other were good too, but the apple hatch stood out. As we sat enjoying our sweet, sweet pie another speed offender pulled up as a couple got out to try and make it before closing time. They were saddled to see it closed and were on their own several hundred mile diversion to get their own taste of sweet, sweet pie. Obviously these speed offenders know something I now know. It's worth the several hundred mile diversion from Rt. 66 for a slice of pie, but if you're a foodie this place is your crowning achievement for bragging. Enjoy! read more

On a long drive into NM from the west, I made a pit stop at the cafe. There was local art that adorned the walls and a homey feel as I entered. The pie station had an array of freshly baked pies lined up that included pumpkin spice, ginger pear, apple pepper, and strawberry rhubarb. Unfortunately, some other diners who had arrived before me had beat me to the punch. By the time the waitress came to my table there were only two choices left- pumpkin spice or ginger pear. I decided on the ginger pear a la mode. The pie was served warm, creating more of a pile than a pie slice. The hint of ginger wasn't overwhelming, but still noticeable. It was evident the light and flaky pie crust was homemade. Spend some extra time here and have a slice or two if you're not in a hurry. Or better yet, call ahead to order a whole pie to take with you. Note: If they run out of pies at the stand, no worries they are putting new pies in the oven. The only catch is you'll have to wait 30 minutes or so. Yum! Two thumbs up. read more

The woman who owns this restaurant sure does know how to make pie! I discovered this place driving through a number of years ago and was so impressed that I planned a number of future trips going this route just so that I could stop here. (The air quality in this part of New Mexico is really good too, and that also is really important to me in terms of being motivated to visit here.) I am a pie fan in general, and the pies here are among the best that I have had. Usually I try to only eat organic food and this pie makes no such claims, but all in all, the ingredients seem like they are good quality to me. At least in the past, the hours for the restaurant have been pretty erratic, and so calling before making a big effort to go here to make sure they are open has been worthwhile. I'm a little sorry to see on their website that they are only serving pie and nothing else now though. They used to make some light entrees, such as soups or quesadillas, that were good-quality and served as a nice snack before eating the pie. Whereas just eating pie and nothing else is not something I am inclined to do. It definitely is fun to be able to eat such good pie in Pie Town though. I am looking forward to coming back. read more

This place is about 3 hours off the beaten path but SO worth it! There is nothing else in this town but pie & really really friendly people. I got the berry pie with ice cream. Slice of pie is $6, alamode +$2. They use all eco friendly plates, silverware & cups! Whole pies are $30. Friends got the almond joy pie, she said it was delightful, another friend got Chocolate cream...it was still warm, she liked it but we both agreed would be better if it had a chance to get cold. read more

My last review on Pie-O-Neer was 2 years ago when Kathy and her husband owned the Pie-O-Neer. Was such a great place, the new owners are nice but there pies are absolutely not the ORIGINAL Pie-O-Neer ! I stopped in with my wife expecting great pie but got cold pie like it came out of the fridge ! Bummer the pie was thick and there apple green Chile pinon pie was depressing. My wonderful husband, Jim W, and I set off on a foodie road tour of New Mexico, or part of it anyway. My reviews of that trip will serve as a yummy travelog so I'm going to write them in order. Warning: don't read them on an empty stomach. OUR FIRST AMAZING STOP: Before we drove into Pie Town we didn't even know it existed. Imagine a town actually made of pie! Well, not exactly. But it is a town built on pie. They have a pie festival, of course, and restaurants up and down the main street opened solely to celebrate that most delicious and versatile of baked goods. Kathy, owner and purveyor of pie-shaped decadence, offered a warm welcome when we arrived. When we told her we were new to Pie Town she provided a history of the town and her restaurant. She told us about the pies, offered us information about the region... Then came the pie. Jim and I decided to try two flavors and share each (a thread that ran through our entire trip). We got apple crumb and peach blackberry. Both were delicious. Since I liked the apple better and Jim liked the peach blackberry better we wound up each eating most of our favorite flavor. The restaurant was charming and had an art gallery featuring local Pie Town artists. The staff was kind and attentive and the restaurant had a fun, rustic vibe. High-tail it to Pie Town and say hi to Kathy. Go with an empty stomach and time to spare. read more

My daughter rode her bike from Maine to Santa Barbara this summer with the 'Bike and Build' group. Things can get pretty boring on a 4000 mile bike ride, so I looked on Yelp to see if there was something that I could do to break their tedium. Pie-O-Neer looked liked a standout stop in the middle of nowhere, so I gave them a call...and my credit card number, and told them to prepare for 40 sweaty tired cyclists. I couldn't have made a better choice! I got thank you letters and texts and emails all praising the delicious reception that welcomed them on their arrival into Pie Town! And, the photos they sent had my mouth watering!. So I guess I can't tell you what the pie tasted like, but I can tell you that if you go there you will find warm and welcoming people. i also have the highest recommendations from 40 bikers who are still raving! read more

The Pie-o-Neer is perfect in every way except one: it isn't a regular feature of my life. I have only been lucky enough to make four piegrimages to the Pie-o-Neer but, every time, the pie has been delicious and the atmosphere has redefined welcoming. Pecan with toasted oats? Genius--and not too sweet. Peaches and cream? Summer with a crust. The Almond Joy pie? Decadent... like a gooey macaroon the size of a hamburger. Kathy is a guru of pie baking and one of the nicest people you will ever meet. She sources incredibly high quality ingredients and throws down serious meringue skills. If you are ever passing through Pie Town, you owe yourself a visit. Ignore your doctor's advice, get a slab of pie, sit on the porch and enjoy life. Because the Pie-o-Neer is a very small business, it isn't usually open early in the week or in the middle of the winter--it is worth checking their website to confirm hours. read more

This is a place where a nice lady makes awesome pies. As a favor, she also puts on some good green chile stew. Wash it down with some coffee. Ahhh.... that's nice, isn't it? I like having mine on the porch so I can slip my dog little bites. She is wild about the crust. Who isn't? My favorite this time was the sweet potato pecan - it was lick the plate deelishus. We also had the cherry, which if it hadn't been eclipsed by superstar sweet potato would have been the favorite. We called ahead and the nice lady had an entire green chile pinon apple pie ready for us to take home. Love. Love is what I feel when I have a tum full of pie. Here is a tip for a great day: take I-40 west out of ABQ and then hop on 117 into the badlands - El Malpais National Park. Trails, lava tubes, arches, elk. Elk! Then continue through and take the dirt road, route 14 I think, to Pie Town. Then treat yourself to whichever pie the nice lady has ready. Complete the loop with a pass by the Very Large Array. If you have room for it, green chile cheeseburgers are waiting for you at The Owl or at Buckhorns in San Antonio. After all that you should have just enough energy left to roll up I-25 back to the waiting arms of home. Live it! Love it! read more
