I was told the pies at Ace Hardware have a cult following and as such, I bought a peach and a boysenberry. Little did I know, the pies that are so highly rated are at the Ace Hardware stores in California and come from a totally different manufacturer. Both pies I bought that came from Pies Unlimited were horrendous, and we threw both in the garbage. The peach pie was basically a can of peaches including the liquid underneath a bitter, horrible tasting pastry. We cut into the peach pie and it was soup, and my wife and I were both shocked at how bad it was. We decided to keep the boysenberry pie frozen a few extra weeks, and just now decided to cook it. A similar experience ... a mostly liquid filling, a bottom pastry layer that was paper thin and didn't hold up any of the pie filling and a pastry layer that was bitter again and foul. I am not exaggerating when I say I have had frozen, generic brand pies from the grocery store that taste 10x better than these. I have no idea what they are doing at this place, but save your money ... I would give 0 stars if that was an option.

The problem is that there were no signs, ropes, chains, or any other barriers indicating that customers weren't supposed to enter. Since it was our first time there, we had no way of knowing. Instead of calmly explaining the mistake, a dark-haired, female employee immediately became confrontational. My mom tried to apologize and explain that we didn't realize it was a restricted area, but the employee continued berating her, repeatedly telling her to get out and physically ushering her toward the exit. The whole interaction was completely unnecessary and embarrassing. This situation could have been avoided with something as simple as a sign or a chain blocking off the area. Even without those, a polite "I'm sorry, this area is for employees only" would have been more than enough. Everyone makes honest mistakes, especially first-time customers. The lack of professionalism and courtesy we experienced was disappointing, and because of it, we won't be returning.
