Pie mushroom and feta and spinach
Lachlan C.

Went to pie in the sky. Ordered two pies, mushroom and feta & spinach. The mushroom was your average classic pie with nice flavour of the meat but just plain, nothing special. The feta and spinach was average too. We also ordered some chips as well but it was dry and definitely don't order. This is a nice cafe with average food but it was the best cafe around in this area but if you're not staying in Olinda and just passing by, definitely suggest going elsewhere

Rude and arrogant staff. Make sure not to arrive just before they are closing. You can't even use the tables outside to eat.

For the price and quality of food I left the Pig and Whistle Tavern a very happy customer…read more After a walk to Sherbrooke Falls, we were all starving and hadn't booked dinner anywhere but thought we would try our luck at the Tavern as recommended by a colleague. The service was consistent and average HOWEVER the decoration and the food was what made the night great! We ordered the Piggy Platter to share the it was a great mix of bread, olives, pork, cheese...all the goodies (there was 5 of us). For our mains we tried: Vegetarian Pizza - super tasty with thin base. Meat Lovers Pizza Eye fillet steak - medium to perfection, tender and juicy (expect for my sister not liking rocket leaves) Pork Belly - falls apart and juicy. Steak and Guinness Pie - I would have liked the chips to have had more flavour and more guinness in the pie. Everyone enjoyed their meals and we actually had half of each pizza left over so perhaps next time I would look at sharing more dishes instead of ordering a main each.

Basically it is an English style pub, but it has more charm, and more character, than a lot of others that I visit, namely because they don't go out of their way to make themselves appear to be an English tavern. Like, they have some rather nice beers on tap, and the staff are rather friendly as well. Yeah, this is actually a rather lovely place to be honest.

Really enjoyed it. We had the cheeseburger, a whole grilled trout with a side of rosemary fries,…read moreand a smoked sausage hot and pink from the smoker, a little spicy and served with pickled cucumber and carrot. One of the few places in Melbourne that cooks burgers to order, but unfortunately we ordered medium rare and it arrived well done. Still tasty though! The trout, however, was genuinely AMAZING. Succulent and cooked to perfection on a hot grill. Chips were golden and crispy with a rosemary salt, really good. The sausage and pickles were delicious. There's no phone signal (for us anyway) so it's a rare chance to fully focus without the temptation of peeking at the phone. The meals took a fair stint to arrive, but we weren't there for fast food and the location is incredibly beautiful so it was a nice chance to stop and breathe. Speaking of breathing - we were seated outside, and every time the wind gusted our way there was a waft of .... I don't know what. Sewage? Pigs? Something on the septic side of the scent spectrum (I know, pure poetry). It wasn't pleasant so I removed a star for that.

What a place! Well worth the drive and what a picturesque drive it is. The first thing you notice…read moreis the magnificent looking silos. On a wet summers day the mist was rolling in so it made it all the more pretty. Everything about the cafe is thought thru, from the bakery to finishing touches of the decor. Our waiter was efficient and had a great sense of humour. He certainly made it all the more memorable. The drinks came quickly followed by our delicious meals. We were there for breakfast but there is everything from buying a loaf of bread and toasting it yourself, pastries to the purchase of three different sized picnic baskets. And if the salads on display are anything to go by I'll certainly be back to order one and stroll through their gardens. They are currently expanding the gardens. But there is plenty to do! From lawn bowls, children's play areas, picnic area and meet bubble and squeak the residents of the pig sty. I couldn't recommend the Piggery Cafe enough. I will certainly be back. I could imagine that it will get busy on the weekends if during the week was anything to go by - so be prepared. Happy eating.
