Maybe it's just the time of year we came here, but this place was a madhouse. A MADHOUSE. We had our pictures done almost 45 minutes after our appointment time, had another group breathing down our necks because of the overcrowding, had to wait in line to change my baby's diaper and had people trying to open the door on me while I wiped her tush, and could barely get out the door because of the line of people. Insane, I tell you. INSANE. We had a better selection of shots taken at Target last year, and Target had a wider variety of backgrounds for poses, plus props. For how much more Picture People's prints cost, I expected the quality and organization to be better than Target, but instead we were taking our pictures in a space out in the open (they do have one in a separate room too) where the draft from outside blew on us every time the door opened. I was impressed with how soon we got our portraits and Christmas cards--we came back in 20 minutes to get them, and they looked fine. Unfortunately, the templates for the cards have mistakes in them, and I didn't notice that the one we picked contained an error until I already sent out some of my cards. It wasn't the custom text that has my family members' names or whatever you want to put there; it was the "Merry Christmas" in the template. It has no dot on the "i," and the "t" is not crossed. Do they seriously have no proofreader? How annoying! Maybe this place is good at a different time of year, but steer clear when it's busy unless you like long waits and sloppy work. read more

Went here in conjunction with an Origins offer which stated that I would get to do a photo shoot and receive a free 8x10 picture. There was no one at the reception desk and after a couple of minutes of being noticed by a photographer nearby, we were received. Our photographer, Erica was extremely friendly and creative with her ideas. It was a pleasure doing business with her. However, I cannot say the same about the other people who work here. When I called to find out about the pictures, the person who answered the phone was quite rude and made me feel like an idiot. I really feel that this kind of behavior is extremely disappointing and the company needs train their employees better. Will not be returning. read more

I went in with absolutely zero expecation of having good pictures and walked out paying $75 for the high res disk of all the pictures! they were good, one of a kind and i had to have the pictures that they took of my daughter. Mike was our photographer. he was very patient. working with my 1 year old daughter was tough, but we finally found a position sitting on the stool that solved our problems. I would come back here because the sitting fee is free if i wanted more professionally done pics of my daughter. just a side note, don't let your kids walk barefoot or in their socks. their socks or feet will be ridiculously filthy. guess they never mop down their floors. read more

I was a little gun shy when coming here. I know sometimes it can be a "zoo" with a lot of people waiting around and lots of crabby kids. I walked in and the manager was taking care of an unhappy customer and the place was packed. Tis the season!! Our appointment was at noon and we didn't get to start our photo session until about 12:25. Although I understand you can't take people right away, a few minutes makes a difference when dealing with a 6 month old. By the time they took us, he was crashing and becoming really tired. The photographer did everything she could to try to make my son happy but he was pretty cranky. We only ended up with about 10 good pictures so that was a little disappointing. $75 later, we left with a CD of our pictures. They are supposed to be "high quality" however when I was trying to print them from smugmug, they wouldn't let me chose anything bigger than a 5x7 since the quality wasn't up to par. I am giving this Oak Brook location 5 stars.... because #1) Soon as I walked in, I was greeted and asked to check in #2) I was called up for my appointment time within 3 minutes even though the place was swamped #3) every person who works here is positive and happy #4) they worked with my child without rushing me #5) they have lots of props for babies #6) after the pics were taken, I was able to view them within 10 minutes # 7) I chose my pictures and frame and was able to walk out of the store with it within 15 minutes #8) I was in and out in less than an hour total. This place knows how to work with kids...in fact, in talking with a few workers there, they have them themselves, and shared that they enjoy working with kids in general. This is key! The experience here sure beats their Lombard location. The distance is not far from each other, but this Oak Brook crew & location will make your experience 100 times better! read more

This was the bottom of the list of experiences I have had at Picture People. I started going to them 5 yrs ago with my 1 yr old. My mother in law had booked a session with them in FL. That studio was amazing and I had to remind my MIL that what ever she spent on this grandchild, to remember there would be two. My FIL was laughing cause she was about to drop close to $500 for the pictures. She restrained herself and we walked out spending $250. We had been going to the one in Fox Valley Mall (but it has since closed down) about 3 times a year or more. We are members of the Portrait Club, which gave you a year of viewing and storage (which I understand they no longer do this), 3 8 x10 free (which I understand that now you get a sheet of your choice) and 3 $10 off. So we came to this location yesterday to take Christmas pictures of our tiny humans and document the newest human to join the clan. The pictures were not great. I could barely find 4 that I liked. The studio was overcrowded and I was feeling claustrophobic. Our photographer, we assumed, was new cause she had to have someone come help her with the positioning, took 3 pics each and say ok done with that pose. I remember the other place just letting it fly to get several pictures, and at our very first session the girl was so good she just let our daughter do what she wanted and she would take pictures of her. Yesterday we spent $75. That was the least we have ever spent. Then one of the pictures showed my human holding a dirty candy cane; like I am going to send that out. They said they would go in the back and touch it up. I discovered this morning I never got the photo back. I called them and they are going to mail it to me. I gave them an extra star cause the other studios were AMAZING. I am just thinking that this might not be prepared for the extra business it is getting cause of the closures of Fox Valley, Old Orchard and some other ones. I think I will give them another try in 6 months, maybe they would have ironed our the kinks by then. read more

Store review: I was surprised that this experience was not bad at all. I have never had professional photos taken as a kid and now that I have my own kid, my wife received a groupon to this location and I had no choice but to go with. I can see by the other yelp experience that if you come on a busy day be prepared to wait wait wait wait. Some photographers are better than others. Ours was quite nice. I wish I remembered her name but she was patience and very helpful. Her shot of the family is probably the best one taken so far. They never charge a photo sitting fee, but the high quality dvd is quite expensive 75 dollars +. Our friend gave us a 80 dollar gift card as well so it offset the cost of everything. We ended up paying 119 dollars which got us the DVD, a large photo frame with 5 pictures, and a sheet with multiple of the same pictures. Overall I would say this is expensive, but if you want a keep sake picture then this is a place to go. Pros: no sitting fee, great staff Cons: very expensive, but if you don't like the pictures you can always come again with your kids, be prepared to wait a lot (wait for picture taking, wait for uploading to computer, wait for printing and prep, wait to pay) Hidden deals: Look for groupon deals. The 18 dollars for multiple sheets of photos was a steal. The DVD is quite expensive though, make sure they take more so you will have more to take home with you. I took my 16 month little lady in for Easter pictures this past weekend. I always am concerned when it's "too easy" to book appts at this location when the others are so much harder, but I waited too long and this is where we could go... Well, to my suprise, we had a great time! Trinity was our photogrpaher and she was so nice and patient with us and did what she could to get my daughter to smile and react to her! She was great with my constant need to fix hair and props, and got some GREAT shots! Latanya helped me pick out the photos and brought to my attention that if I got a membership, I could save money on the spot and I almost did... But we will definitely be back, so it is worth it. The pictures themselves (the printing) turned out pretty good! I really thought the B/W was dark and wish I would have spoken up then - but all in all I'm happy with the trip! Absolutely amazing. The price was great and the pictures turned out fantastic. I made an appointment and upon arrival I was taken right away, we went on a Saturday and i expected to wait a bit beacuse of the amount of people who were there. photographer was super energetic and great with my kids. The waiting time to view the pictures were within 15 minutes. All the pictures turned out so beautiful I purchased the cd with all photos for $160, (30) pictures were taken and (3) 8×10's were printed with no extra charge. They also gave me a paper copy release as well as one in the cd so I wouldn't have any trouble printing the rest out on my own. Would definitely recommend this to all. read more

I visited the Picture People this past Friday with my 6yo and 5month old. It took us 1hr to get there due to I290 traffic, needless to say my 5month old was restless and i had to re-schedule for the same day but an hour and a half after our original appointment time. When I called them they were extremely helpful and re-scheduled me right away. I actually made it 1/2 hr before my appointment and they took me in within minutes. The photographer that helped us went out of her way to make my 5month old laugh and look at the camera. She took as many pictures as she could and then some. I am EXTREMELY happy on how they turned out. Their prices are a bit higher than other places but so worth it. I have spent more $ at Sears and not nearly half as happy as i am with how these turned out. read more

Yes, my child was acting up. I'll admit that. However - the woman that took her picture could not have been more unfriendly, and worse - terrible with children. She didn't make a silly face, or try to make her laugh once. Instead my husband and I were left to it, sweating our butts off while she just sat there taking the occasional picture. GET UP WOMAN! Not to mention, she took the same series of photos about 100 times without trying to get her to do anything different. Sit, stand, nothing. After about 20 minutes of the same pose, I suggested adding a bench that was sitting there unused. I asked about different backdrops, I asked about props. None of this was brought to me - I had to ask. I mean, what am I exactly paying for here? I didn't come here to run the show myself - that is what the photographer is supposed to do. Not to mention the store experience was a complete nightmare. Could they hire more people? Perhaps someone to answer the phone that rang for at least 10 minutes straight without it being answered (no exaggeration here). Or help the 3-7 families that came in only to pick up their pictures, but waited for 20 minutes because there was no one to help them? And then there was me waiting for 15 minutes to even see my photos on the screen, another 20 before I could pick them out, and another 15 while they printed (and another 10 to wait because they forgot one of my pages). Ridiculous. While I felt bad for me - I REALLY felt bad for the other families that were also waiting. The customer service here is abysmal. I've had better, and cheaper experiences elsewhere. Have you ever gotten your photo taken at the DMV? That is what this felt like except the people at Picture People were ruder. Our appointment was at 4:30, but no one spoke to us until 5:15 when they begrudgingly took our photos. The lady would say a post to do, take a single picture, then move onto the next all without a smile. The pictures turned out horrible (shocker) and the backgrounds clashed. We had a Groupon, so we had to get prints of the photos and the lady complained about having to wait til they printed the whole time. They swept around us while we waited for the photo, then came out at around 6:10 in their coats with our photos and their purses. Thank god we don't have little kids and our teenagers can laugh it off. read more

I went to Picture People yesterday. At first I was annoyed because I had to wait 10 minutes for someone to tell me they were 15 minutes behind. 30 minutes later, my sitting finally started. However, the end result was great. I love the pictures and will go back. Next time I will call ahead to make sure they are not running behind. I will also bring some of my own props. I worked with Dawn and Donna. They were both really sweet and attentive once things got rolling. It's great they let you change outfits and they have good ideas. At some points I thought they just needed to take the picture quicker because my 9-month old was crawling all over. But, again, it all worked out! read more

This place keeps getting worse. Hard to believe but true. Not to mention its dirty and it appears they have never ever cleaned any of their props. Considering the number of kids and animals that go in and out...gross! The quality of the pics is terrible. The last time we went all of our photos showed masking tape on the floor. The time before that out kid's shirt was riding up showing his belly but the photographer just kept taking pictures as if we would want belly pics of our kid. uhhhhh...no. Its maddening that the photographer doesn't ever say, hey I'm looking at the pics...do you want to adjust his shirt or comb down the one crazy hair that is sticking out or....instead they snap tons of pics and hope that one or two is decent. Bad quality picture, that they did not touched at all so you could see where the background finishes and then the wall starts... they wasted my time to "fix" them, then on my CD were still the unfixed pics with someone else's pics ( they looked as bad as ours)! I was upset, since it takes some good amount of effort to prep the whole family and do the photo shot, so I gave my pics to a friend of mine to try to get them better, fix, crop etc. He said that the pics quality is bad as well, he said " they would have looked better if they have used an Iphone" ! Terrible customer service. It was a mad house when we walked in 15 minutes before our scheduled appointment time and there was nobody at the front desk to manage the chaos. 45 minutes later we were still waiting. When we asked someone how much longer they couldn't commit to a time, and said it could be more than another half hour! We spent a lot of time and effort getting our 2 young kids ready. As others have noted in their reviews, I will admit... my children were not in the best mood for the pictures. My infant was awful crabby. But I think it was some of our photographer's attitude rubbing off on them! When she came over to get us, she did not smile, introduce herself or anything. She just pointed to where we needed to go. Then the fun began. As she just sat there, I proceeded to set the kids up for the shots. I asked for her suggestions and she literally just sat there, I don't even know if I heard her speak! Once I got them set up, she did absolutely NOTHING to engage them.... no smiling, no funny faces, nothing. Just an occasional camera snap. As I sweat and ran around and my kids started to melt, I caught her staring out the window a few times or looking around the store, completely disengaged!! UM, hello.... why don't you just keep the camera going and maybe we'll catch SOMETHING usable!! For someone whose JOB IT IS is primarily to take pictures of children, I was appalled at her lack of social skills, with children OR adults. After about 10 minutes, she basically just looked at me and said I've got plenty of good ones... let's call it a day. I'm like, really... I saw you take about 5 pictures. I knew the results were not going to be good. The end results were beyond awful. There were about 10 shots total, and NOT ONE was even close to usable. I take better pictures at home with my point and shoot camera. And she didn't even care! At the very least, she could have tried to appease me by apologizing, or suggesting a time to come back or something... but she basically just ignored me. I did not purchase anything. So I walked out with a painful hour of my life gone, and no pictures! I had hoped that this would be a good experience.... I've dropped a ton of money over the years on professional photography, so with the holidays and everything I had hoped to go the "little less expensive" route with Picture People. This was clearly one of those experiences where you "get what you pay for" ... in my case, I paid for nothing, and never would. And the woman who was my photographer, should not be getting paid for what she is doing...awful! read more

The only reason we got any decent pics was because the other 2 photographers saw what was going on and came over to help. We went in to take couple shots and we were taken in after waiting about 10 minutes, no big deal. The children there were very entertaining as we waited since they kept trying to push the prop car out of the shooting area. It was obviously loud and hectic, but that is to be expected when their main work is working with little kids. Our photographer was very nice and made us feel comfortable since my boyfriend and I never have taken professional photos. We did around 20 different poses and we were laughing throughout it and having fun. The photographer new what she was doing and we were happy with the poses she was giving us. It took about 20 minutes to get the photos done. I thought that was the right amount of time because it kept it fresh and fun and didn't get to the point where your smiles were hurting and you wanted to be done. After the shoot we waited 10 minutes then we reviewed our photos. All the photos were of nice quality. Some were slightly blurry but there were enough to choose out of where that wasn't bothersome. Our photographer gave us the pricing for the packages and then left us alone to decide on what we wanted to do. I thought that was nice because we didn't feel awkward trying to justify to her why we didn't want the 135 dollar package. Once she came back we narrowed it down to 2 photos and we bought them for 18 $ each. We were very happy with our experience and we would definitely come again. read more

I went here because I had a goupon and I wanted some pictures for my 3 1/2 month old son. We went on a Saturday and the place was CRAZY. Waited 35 mins after our appointment till we got called. By that time my son had fell asleep so was very cranky when we woke him up for pictures. The shoot didn't go well which is not the ladies fault. However after the shoot waited around another 30 mins till I finally asked someone what the deal was about viewing out photos. Once our order was placed she said your photos will be right up more time passed and then they said there printer was down and they had no idea how long it would be. With a very cranky newborn (we had been there for 3 hours!) we said we would leave and they said they would mail us the photos, I spoke with Veronica. Then come Monday I called a lady answered I explained the situation and asked if I could just come pick them up, if they weren't already mailed. She was rude said she was on a conference call and would call me back in a hour. Never received a call back, called them again spoke with Mary, she said she didn't see my photos anywhere had no idea about them mailing me photos, told me to just come in. If I wouldn't have called I would have never got my photos that is for sure. So now I have to make a trip there again today, hopefully I will get my photos and NEVER have to go there again. I went to the oakbrook picture people for my daughters 6-month pictures. WHAT A DISASTER!!! We had an appointment and were helped right away, but our photograher was a middle-aged woman with white hair who obviously does not have a lot of camera experience, or baby experience! I'm not sure who conducted the interview to hire her, but they didn't do a very good job! After about half an hour of me trying to keep my daughter smiling and the photographer just standing there holding the camera, I finally said "can you maybe start taking some pictures.. even when she isn't smiling?" She took about 7 and said "ok... I think she is done." And that was the end of it! I had 7 pictures of my daughter - some out of focus, some with the store floor/camera equipment in the background. When I tried to find a corporate office number, I was told by a store employee that there is no corporate number, she said that they do not even have a corporate office phone number and all she could do was email them for me and if they wanted to answer my email, they would. Guess what... they did NOT answer! There is only one district manager available by phone, and when I spoke to her, her answer was "We have a lot of new employees right now, but I have not had a chance to review the pictures yet, so I do not know if the photographer did a bad job or not." She told me she would call me after she reviewed them. My daughter is now 9 months old, and still waiting for that phone call! She did also tell me that I could come back and have her (the manager) do a new shoot herself, but they would charge me again! What a joke! I just hope others read these reviews before they have a bad experience ther, or at least before they waste their money on a membership! read more

Went in with the groupon - won't be back. The groupon gives you pictures of one pose, you are on the hook for additinal poses if you want them. The studio was loud and crowded. We felt very rushed and then when it came time to actually pick out the pictures, no one gave me pricing information. I ended up buying the CD for $75. Only to have no include all of the images from our shoot. I called to complain and was told I could just come back in and get new CD. No apologies, not offer to mail it. I also send a complaint through their corporate website - no response. I was not expecting much with the groupon, but they really were worse then my already low expectations. I have never written a review before, but my experience was so egregious, that I feel it is necessary to warn others. We showed up to our appointment 10 minutes early. The place was a madhouse, but it is the holiday season, so it was to be expected. After waiting at the reception desk for several minutes, we had to get the attention of one of the staff to check in. The woman asked several questions like party size and we took our seat to wait for our session. About 45 minutes past our scheduled time, I felt like everyone that was there previously to our arrival has had their picture taken. I figured we would be next. Once I started noticing that people who arrived after us were being called for their session, my wife and I went back to the front desk to inquire about our position. I was told that they did not have us checked in. The woman asked who had checked us in, to which my wife replied "you did". After recalling our initial conversation to her, she still denied that she had checked us in. She disappeared into the back room to look for the paperwork and was sidetracked with other tasks. I am starting to get very aggravated that we are being blown off. I understand mistakes happen, but to run a successful business, everything possible should be done to rectify them. After restating that we have been waiting for over an hour past our appointment time, we were told that we would be next. We take to the seats to wait some more. Two studios open up simultaneously, and two groups that showed up about 15 minutes ago were called!!! At this point, I start putting on the kids jackets and I make a scene about the customer service. I confronted the woman at the desk and said "You said we would be next". Her only reply was "That is what I told them, I don't know why they didn't call you". The commotion of packing the family up while complaining has practically the whole place looking at us. You would think they would try to rectify the situation, but I was told, and I quote "I am sorry you are unhappy, have a nice evening." That just blew my mind. As we are leaving, one of the photographers that we have had several times in the past was nice enough to apologize and take our number down, but it is now three days later, and we have not received a call. Had the company as a whole reached out to apologize, I would not be writing this review, but it is clear that Picture People does not care about their clientele. I had an absolutely awful experience at the Picture People. The photographer simply would not take pictures. When you are taking pictures of small children, you cannot wait for them to sit still. You just need to let the camera fly. While the photographer told me that she would change the background she never did. The employees are not friendly and do not even acknowledge you when you walk in or try to check in for your appointment for which you will rarely be taken on time. They start off late from the first appointment since they do not open the doors until 10:00 am for a 10:00 appointment. They do not provide any time to dress/change your baby or get your baby acclimated to the studio. The place is also incredibly filthy and most of the props are old and have holes. read more

I'm giving picture people of Oakbrook 2 stars because their props and backgrounds are cute and they run decent promotions,but I took my 4 month old son for Spring pictures and I made an appointment at 10:20a to coincide with his nap/ eating schedule. Well, I guess appointment times don't mean much. We waited almost 40 minutes to even get pictures taken. By the time they took 5 photos he was screaming because he was tired and now crabby. After the session ended and it was time to review the photos he wasn't actually looking at the camera for ANY of the pictures. They attempted to sell me a CD of all the photos which was kind of a joke. I purchased a couple sheets for the sake of the visit not being a totally lost cause. we just left there at 12:00p... 1hr and 45 min after our appointment time and still don't have the photos. I have to go back and pick them up. Complete chaos for average quality photos. read more

The Oak Brook Picture People is great!!! I have been bringing my son there since he was a newborn and now he is two. I have loved every photo shoot and have purchased the disk every time. Groupon had great deals once in a while for huge discounts on the cd and photo packages. All the staff are great and experienced. There are no pushy sales people either. They show a love for your child and influence great smiles and poses. I would suggest making an appointment and going on a weekday before 3pm. My daughter recently had an informal college graduation photo session. First things first, customer service is poor. We tried calling the Oakbrook Center location numerous times to ask a few questions and the phone just rang. When my daughter arrived, she was accompanied by my 13-year old son who was really turned off by the layout /atmosphere of the room where photos were taken. A 13-year old said it didn't look professional! As for the photos, they lacked creativity and professionalism as well. I could have done a better job with my cellphone. The quality of the photographs was okay. She used a voucher from Amazon, but ended up spending 4 times as much on photographs that will likely collect dust. read more

zero stars. this place is a joke. had a 5 o'clock appointment. arrived on time. place was a zoo. people everywhere. no one greeted us. finally, at 5:30 they checked us in. no introduction given. just rushed us through the whole entire process. like a fast-food drive through. we asked for pumpkins and Halloween props. the girl gave us one pumpkin for our baby who was dressed in her costume. she snapped a bunch of pictures with my daughter holding a bottle, even though we told her we didn't want pictures of the baby drinking a bottle, we were just trying to quiet her. out of all the pics she took, we liked 1, and chose a 2nd one just because we felt we had to since we spent so much time and energy getting ready for this. later after the session ended, we saw all these cute halloween props she didn't ever offer us!!! the place was filthy. the rug that my daughter was photographed on was disgusting. a bunch of teenagers snapping terrible photographs as quickly as they can so they can be done. no private rooms. just out in the open with tons of distractions, kids running around, etc. Now, we have to reschedule an appointment with a REAL studio so we can get what we want. read more

I will say out of the four times I have been to this location taking and purchasing photos from one session, there was only one time that I felt respected. I don't want to say it had anything to do with the way God shaded me, but... One of the staff members continued to brush me off on one occasion, and she insisted on waiting on another couple who had already been helped. The guy (customer) had to tell the staff member that it was ok to help me. t On another occasion, my appointment with my very large family was set for 7:00pm and we were treated rudely and not seen until 8:45pm and they pictures were less than stellar. Lastly, on yet another occasion, another staff member knew I was next in line and blatantly serviced the lady who came in after me. The customer in that case actually mouthed "I am sorry." Is it every staff member? No. I have met a few very nice employees. However, instead of advertising with coupons there needs to be a refresher on customer service. I don't know how much money they make but they could surely make so much more by treating ALL of their customers WELL. read more
