I called to make an appointment with the Dr. for a check up because we were going to be traveling and an Acceptance of Liability form from the airline needed to be signed by ME. The questionnaire asked for the Veterinarian's license number. Again, this is an Acceptance of Liability Form, one that I sign. I was told by Emma, that the Dr. would not give me her license number at our visit without seeing the form. I mentioned that this license number is public and I didn't understand why they would need the form. I told Emma that I felt this didn't make any sense and that they were losing a client over this, she said, "Not a problem". I have found a new vet, sadly, was not a problem. read more

My husband and I came here since it's closest to base a while ago but wish we hadn't. The staff has always been kind but unfortunately the Doctor at the facility is not. He is blatantly rude and the way he speaks to you is like you know nothing. This visit, our pet had a shakey head but we can't successfully clean his ears properly on our own. Dr. Baybordy is AMAZING. He recently removed two benign bumps from our very old yorkie...which was a risky procedure because our Yorkie already suffers from a pretty severe collapsing trachea...so at this point any procedure is risky for our pup. But, Dr. Baybordy talked us through the risks and thoroughly answered all of our questions and the whole procedure start to finish went really well. I had the worst vet experience of my life today. I've been taking my dog Hank here for over a year. I took him in for a routine check up and updated shot. The vet noticed he had allergies and prescribed a variety of meds. My total was around 500 dollars. Pretty standard considering my dog's breed. I went to pay and realized I had accidentally forgotten my wallet. I told the receptionist I would just run home and get it really quick and come back or I could call and pay over the phone. She said she would have to let her manager know. I told her that was no problem at all. She and another employee insisted I use Apple Pay but I've never used it before and they tried to walk me through it but of course you need a credit card to set it up and I didn't have one. When they released that wasn't going to work the receptionist told me that I would have to pay by the end of the day or it would go to collections. Again I told her that was not a problem as I was just going to go home and get my wallet and pay right away. She kept having to go to the back and talk to her manager, who never came out and I never even spoke to, and was gone for long periods of time. At this point I started to text my husband and family members to see if someone could give me a credit card number over the phone because I felt like they were treating me as if I was a scam artist. She then came back and said I couldn't have the meds my dog needed until I returned with a card to pay, I was annoyed but totally understood and said that was fine. She then told me I needed to sign a letter that I intended to pay and give her a copy of my drivers license. Again I told her I didn't have my wallet which contained my drivers license but I signed the form anyways. Then she just left and I was by myself at the front desk, wondering if they were ever going to give me my dog back so I could go home and get my wallet. I started to get really afraid that they had called the police on me and were holding my dog hostage until someone arrived. Finally by husband called me back and give me one of our card numbers over the phone but at this point I'm so shaken I cried all the way home. You could be the best vet in the world and I would not come back here. I've never been treated so poorly in my life. read more

i can't imagine having a worse experience at a vet. i had to euthanize my dog recently & not only were they horribly unorganized, but they don't seem like they know what they're doing at all. everytime i'd try to call, id be put on hold for a MINIMUM of 25 minutes. they told me after he passed that it would take 2-3 weeks to get his ashes back, but i still hadn't heard from them for 3 1/2 weeks so i decided to call. they put me on hold for more than 30 minutes & i literally drove there faster (i live in rsm) than they picked up the phone. when i showed up, there was no one in the waiting area which upset me even more cause, why was i still on hold???? i asked about my dogs ashes & said no one has contacted me & they are so difficult to get ahold of & the woman at the desk went in the back to grab someone else. when they both came back out, they opened the bottom drawer of their front desk & mixed in with multiple others, they pulled my dogs ashes out of the bin. they have no sympathy. not only do they hide him with other dogs who have passed in a drawer, but they failed to communicate to me that they had him at all. whether your dog is alive or going to be passing, i wouldn't trust this place with an ant's life. they are unempathetic, unprofessional, & all over just shouldn't be in business. do better. read more

I don't ever do reviews but I would go elsewhere. I got an antibiotic for my dog and they charged me $86! I thought that was extremely high so I looked on 1800petmeds.com and they had doubled the cost of this antibiotic. I asked if they would price match or take the meds back and give me a prescription 5 minutes after walking out the door and they said no. This just goes to show they aren't honest. I'd spend every penny I have on my pups but I don't like being ripped off. read more

After learning today that the "breeder" I had bought our puppy golden retriever from back in December 2018 was just arrested for selling sick puppies (most of whom reportedly passed away from illness within weeks of taking them home), I feel incredibly grateful for Pico Veterinary Clinic. They are 100% to thank for saving our puppy. Thanks to Dr Amir and Dr Arsalan's expertise, thoughtful care plan, and compassion our puppy was one of the fortunate ones who lived. The doctors determined early on that our pup had kennel cough. Over the course of a few scary weeks; Through multiple rounds of antibiotics, injections, and constant care, our puppy beat the horrible disease. He is a full-grown, 100% healthy dog to date. Every experience has been awesome at Pico Veterinary clinic! Originally we went to a different vet when we first got our puppy. After a few visits, it wasn't the right fit. After finding Pico Vet on yelp, we called for an appt and they got us in right away. The front desk is always so nice and genuine. The vets treat our puppy with care and consideration anytime we visit. We have gone to Pico for about a year now and love their service. We got our pug spayed here and have come for check ups, teeth pulling and flee prevention. They are truly great and our puppy even seems to like going. They also have yearly payment programs that are worth looking into. Overall, highly recommend for vets in the San Clemente area. We are so happy with our experiences here! read more

Comes out 20 minutes later with a bottle of med. without telling me why. I also gave them a stool sample. Long story short the cat hates medicine by way of eye dropper .Dr. Baybordy never told me the cause of her diarrhea or why the stool sample test. He also mentioned her back molar. I was more concerned about her diarrhea. She is fine now without the med. which is not returnable. read more

They do a really good job in terms of bringing your furry friends back to good health but it's def not cheap by any means. But prefer this vet over my ordinary vet for physical ailments/injury.... but I have to back up and change my rating from 4 stars to 5... I originally put 4 stars cuz their services are quite pricey, but in my opinion, you can't put a price on the well being of any family member, pets included... their services may come at a higher price but like everything in life, you get what you pay for so if you ask me, it's worth every penny read more

We are a new family in the area and the vet we established care with for vaccines a year earlier refused to help us with post care because their schedule was too full. The front office staff listened to my plea for help after calling multiple other vets in the area who were also too busy and squeezed us in. I brought my animal in here, she was on her way out, I believe she ate a poison rat. I was desperate, and they knew she was not gonna live. They asked me if they could start an IV, they did not tell me it would be $700 later. And they knew she wasn't going to live; 10 minutes later they let me know that she was going to die and I had a huge bill on my hands. They are not good people. They are just out to take your money. Do not come here do not I repeat do not take your animal to this facility!!!!!!!!! They charged me $125 to cremate/dispose of my cat and I actually took my cat back with me. They owe me money! On top of being a single mom, crying my eyes out, they would not work with me on the bill or help reduce it! They have no heart. Take my advice go somewhere else!! read more

Took my dog in last week for an allergic reaction that he gets 2-3 a year, gave all the vet info and past med info that has helped. Doctor (nice guy) insisted on an ointment which is not only incredibly messy but it didn't work. I'm calling today to see if he can just prescribe an antibiotic or something oral that will help all over (like in the past) instead of buying 5 products for each individual area, and he is wanting me to bring him back in, get another injection, buy a shampoo, a spray, basically he can prescribe and give anything except for the one thing really needed. I can't shampoo by dog twice a day and put an sticky ointment on him twice a day everywhere as well. Very upsetting. Now I have to go take him to another vet. I'm definitely not paying the same one twice, clearly it didn't help. Should have gone with my first instinct. When I called to make the appointment I didn't have the greatest experience with the receptionist. Didn't make the appointment at first but called back because they are so close and had an immediate opening. Save yourselves and pets the trouble. read more

TLDR: Excellent service and care at an affordable price. I am very thankful for the staff of the Pico Veterinary Clinic being so accommodating to me and my family. I had called several clinics in a desperate attempt to schedule a euthanasia for my dog, Minidog, and only the Pico Veterinary Clinic were ready and willing to see Minidog on such short notice. They said they could squeeze us in at 3:00 pm. I wasn't aware at the time, but that was their closing time! They were ready and willing to stay late to see us! Anyways, I ended up calling around 2:00 PM to postpone the appointment because my father still hadn't fully come to terms with Minidog's condition and wanted to wait one more day. I called early the next morning and was able to schedule an appointment within the next hour. I am very appreciative of how accommodating and patient they were to us. During our visit they asked if we needed a few minutes to say goodbye. Thy gave us our privacy, and my fiancé and I took 10 minutes before we knocked on the door to tell them we were ready. After the procedure, they gave us our privacy to grieve and say one final goodbye to our beloved pet (we took 5-10 minutes before seeing ourselves out of the room). They also took the time to write a very touching card and mailed it to us :) I only visited the one time, but the kind and respectful nature of the staff and vet really speaks volumes. Do not board your dog at pico vet. We usually board our dogs with camp bow wow or with family friends, but bow wow was full and all of our friends were gone for the holiday, so we contacted our vet (pico vet clinic) and they said they did boarding. Long story short.. we got our family dog back and he has a UTI from probably holding his urine for a long period of time, he's been throwing up all night, when we got him back he smelt like cat urine, and he apparently did not pee for over 48 hours under their care and they did not tell us until pick up. We called them for an update and they didn't answer phones. His harness came back chewed up and they said he chewed it on his walks but he's never done that before and I feel like they definitely just left it on him and he chewed it because he was stressed out. So after picking my dog up from a weekend home for the holidays I now have a very sick dog who was not treated well at all and now is suffering with a UTI and stomach issues... never will board there again and ruined our experience boarding with any vet. Just wanted to let neighbors know if they were looking at options stay away from pico vet for boarding. I thought having him at the vet would be the safest place for him, but ended up being a nightmare for us we feel terrible. Update: took him in for uti treatment and they charged us $300 and are not taking any responsibility read more

Pico vet has gone way downhill in the last 4 years. They miss diagnosed my dog for leaking bladder for old age and when I took her to another vet they immediately said it was a bladder infection, gave us medication and she was better within a week. They will up charge for EVERYTHING. read more

Doctor with really bad attitude and he gave a regular routine vaccine to my Frenchie puppy, as a result she has serious allergies and suffered from heavy breathing. When I ask the doctor the reason behind it, his answer is 'I don't know'. He even double charged us for their negligence when I brought our puppy back afterards. Then we brought our Frenchie puppy back for urinary track infection on a separate occasion. I asked the same doctor what caused this and anypreventive measures, again, he gave same answer "I don't know", this is totally unprofessional for a veteran to treat his patient in this kind of uncaring manner. This last time they would not even let me go back with my dog to ask questions. They said it was due to Covid ?? Stupid since we all know it's just a flu now. Anyways. They took my dog back & not even 2 minutes later they came out & started telling me I need to do all these tests & trying to up sell me on a bunch of things that aren't even needed. The vet has no clue what turmeric is, or anything that is natural. Once I started asking questions he pretty much just shut me down and told me that I needed to move to a 1 level house. Very disappointed. I called today to see if they had an over the counter probiotic for my dog. They sell this stuff on Amazon and PetSmart. It's non prescription. As I've been taking my dog here I thought I'd try them first. When I got them on the phone the woman said I'm required by law to pay for a full dog exam before I could get a non prescription probiotic. Wrong. I tried to explain to her that this isn't a prescription product and it's readily sold over the counter. I called Pico Vet first to give them the business since I've taken my dog here. She said that even though it's over the counter the law requires a full exam because they are a vet - which will cost me. This is completely false. When I tried explaining that she was incorrect she went in about the law, etc. As I know this is incorrect I know she was making it up as we went along. This is a ripoff and an unsuspecting person would probably pay it. Shame on Pico Vet!! I went to a different vet in town after verifying they had what I wanted and just picked it up - like it's supposed to work. I don't do business with people who are dishonest. read more

After seeing the kitty lying in the road, a couple other drivers and I stopped to help. One of the gals had been a vet tech. She knew time was of the essence; we rushed across the street to Avenida Veterinary Clinic but were told they would not help. ...They were too busy and sent us away, unwilling to even check if the cat was still breathing! Dismayed but undaunted we drove to Pico Veterinary Clinic where they immediately showed concern and rushed to help! :) The team at pico veterinary did everything they could to discern if there was any hope. The receptionist was not very pleasant, also told me my dogs paperwork said she was 2 years old. After I reviewed, it says she's 8 months, which is correct. Everything seems very disorganized. I had bloodwork done 06/26/23, was told results in 1-2 days, it's 06/29/23 and I called for results but they still don't have them. I had an appointment for spaying on 06/28/23, which I canceled. What was the point in doing bloodwork prior to surgery if results don't come in beforehand? In addition, I asked for one dew claw to be removed while in surgery for spay, the estimate provided was $700-800.. that's an absolute joke. When I called to cancel my spay appointment, I was on hold for 15 minutes by the receptionist. Decided to hang up and call back, they answered right away. Must've forgot about me. Just not professional at all. I would not refer friends/family. I'd recommend getting a little more organized in the reception area. It's the first thing people see and get an impression of, and mine personally has been terrible. read more

I've just recently moved to San Clemente and came here due to the good reviews. My dog has allergies that have been getting worse and worse. His skin turns black, scabs all over his body, hair falling out, etc... I've always been able to be seen the same day if necessary. They have been very helpful, informative, and caring about my doggos needs. At the moment he is doing much better, and I feel better that I can rely on this office for affordable help. They always let me know the cost before they do anything and tries to find the best and most affordable option. The vet is very upfront about what he thinks is best. Being a recent college grad, this helps me a lot. I also love that they write all the dogs names of the office board to welcome them. Very cute! read more
