After several years of traveling 3 hours from home to support a local business we will no longer be shopping here. We have had two specific instances where mistakes were made and each time their resolution was at my cost. Obviously this local business is too perfect and makes no mistakes!! I work too hard for my hard earned money I prefer to do business with people like me. As clearly as my above message is I was very professional while in the phone with the manager on duty and also with the new owner. Your word is all you have at the end of the day and for someone to misinform the public on my behavior speaks volume on the quality of service this business provides. Let me be clear the message states two instances. The first one was when we were sold a 30/06 and gave us a .308 clip. When we called they stated that they couldn't help us and gave us the 1-800 to Tikka. The second incident we picked up a gun with a 243 tag on it for $399 no scope. Between handing them a gun with a tag that said 243 they then played a switch a ru and it turned into a 223. When my husband signed the sale voucher he didn't realize the scam. All we wanted was to trade it for a 243 and if there was a difference pay it. The owner stated because it left his front doors it was now a used gun and he would buy it back minus $125.00. Mind you Ace Hardware in my town is selling a 243 same brand with a vortex scope for $350. Buyers beware. Owner you should be ashamed of yourself for saying that I was rude on the phone. You took the words of your employee and you yourself spoke to me over the phone. Facts! read more

Dishonest. Will lie to you about the law. I have dealt with a LOT of FFLs. Pickett Weaponry is hands down the worst I've ever dealt with. They have absolutely no idea about the laws and will make up lies to suit their needs. NEVER transfer a firearm through Picketts. read more

My husband wanted a gun safe. We heard an ad for a sale at Pickett on the radio, and drove all the way out there, from Bradford County. He found the safe he wanted, and payed for it that same day. We were told it would be one or two weeks for it to be delivered. when two weeks passed, he called the store. He was told that he'd "fallen through the cracks, and then the delivery truck was in an accident. Long story short, they were supposed to make the delivery between 10 and noon today. No delivery, no phone call. read more

I've used Pickett's for several different firearms projects, and I highly recommend their services. The in house gunsmith is top notch, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the prices are always fair. Anytime I run into an issue that I can't solve or don't have the tools for I take it to them and have yet to be disappointed. read more

After visiting three other stores trying to figure out why my firearm wasn't cycling properly and having them sell me "better" ammo and "better" magazines and "better" cleaning kits that didn't solve the issue, Pickett Weaponry was the only place with the integrity and experience to (very politely) tell me that it was "user error." They then showed me how to operate my weapon properly. Didn't even charge me for wasting their time with my ignorance. They worked on my Rem.700 because it would not pull the shell out after I fired it so they call and said it was fixed but should only shoot Federal ammo out of it witch was a little weird so got home shot it same dam thing ended up it had to go back to Remington because of a bad spot in the chamber and only Remington could do it the gun was 10 years old and Remington fixed it for free with in the week I bow hunt more but someone got me the gun for some work I did for him a CBDL beautiful gun now the guy want $85 to adjust the trigger I did buy a pistol there but the boy who sold it got in trouble because it was to cheap which is why I got it he's not there any more.I only go in there to waste time and check ammo prices you can always take a few more dollars off some where else read more

They're supposed to specialize in suppressors, but the experience was not that good. You had better school yourself on exactly what type of suppressor trust you need, if any. I made it clear to them that I wanted my wife to share the suppressor even when I was not around (first suppressor I bought from them a couple years ago). They set up a private agreement so that only I can use it unless I'm present with her which is not what I asked for (but bear in mind is much easier for them to set up, sell and make money on). Second time around I read up enough to know I wanted a single shot trust. I wanted my wife to have one of her own on her pistol and me to have one on mine and we would each share to the other. They put them both in my name. It works, but it's not what I asked for. I wanted her to be the main Trust Maker for her own suppressor, but instead she's just a Supporting Trustee. I kept asking...when does she enter her background info in the kiosk for her trust and they kept putting me off making it sound like it was something to be done later. It was just never going to happen because I was ignorantly made the Trust Maker for both suppressors. Additionally, I didn't understand the process and that I had to take the tax stamps and get them notarized for my wife to be able to use either suppressor. In my opinion, they should be a notary for these things so that we the customer don't have to run all over the place and figure these things out. How can a gun shop with a suppressor kiosk not know all these things? A number of times, whomever I worked with claimed that some other guy in the store who wasn't around was the expert. It left me with the impression that they just want their money for the piece of hardware and for you to be gone. Now having said that, one guy was helpful getting the adapter for my gun to the suppressor as he claims he gave me the part from "his gun". But if they had taking the time to check my guns which I brought in and get the right part ordered to begin with, that would not have happened. Suppressors and these "trusts" can be complicated for you and me and Pickett are either not much better at it or just take advantage with whatever shortcut they can to get money from you and get you out the door. Money is really the problem here because you have to pay for the suppressor up front. So, you pay 3 to 10 months ahead and when you walk in to get your suppressor, you are not new business; you're basically a big time consumer for them; time that they could spend with "spending customers" that day. That is how I feel about having bought three suppressors from them. I don't like putting up bad reviews, but I'm hoping to educate folks in the area. Maybe it's not much better at other stores either, so you had better do your own homework on the subject and know what you're doing otherwise you may end up having to redo stamps or trusts. read more

I'm not sure why there are not more reviews. They have a great selection and even better, a friendlier staff. They took their time to answer all my questions and was a pleasure having a conversation with everyone. One gentleman even offered to give my firearm a cleaning while I shopped around. Great prices, great staff, was well worth the 45 minute drive out of the way to visit. read more

Customer service is very poor. Drop the gun off to get cleaned seven months ago. When in every other month and kept hearing I'll get right on it. I'm sorry for your wait. You've been patient? Finally went in and picked it up unfinished. They never even touched it. I'm taking it to another place now pretty sad. read more

Small town feel, but large town choice. Friendly, good prices, and large selection of guns.

This shop is hit and miss with me. They have a large inventory of fire arms new and used, however their "support" can lack at times. Depending on who you talk to they may not be very knowledgable, or I've received conflicting opinions. They offer some quality upgrades for rifles, but also have an abundance of cheap stuff. Their safe prices run higher than most but otherwises the prices are competitive. Overall I'd go here over pawn shops but I'd pick a Bass Pro, or Gander Mountain over these guys. Which is unfortunant as I usually prefer locally owned businesses. read more

Pickett Weaponry had been the only show in town for a while. They have a history of poor follow through on their word, with long delays and excuses for unacceptable waits on gun repair all the while stringing you along. When I listed my shotgun for consignment with them they lost my choke tubes and then jacked the consignment price up by $200 in addition to what they said they were going to sell it for which was already my cut plus their agreed cut. Therefore, i went to get the gun b/c it did not sell for their astronomical price and they had lost the choke tubes. I went back 3 times for the tubes but they couldn't find them and made excuses over and over about them. They would say they were going to order new ones and never did... every time I went back and talked to Staff it was like it was the first time I ever asked him about it. I took my Walther HK 416 22LR to Nick, one of Pickett's in house gun smiths, when it kept jamming. All I can say is that from this day forward Pickett will be my local gun shop. If you have a firearm that needs any work this is where you want to bring your weapon! I had a very negative experience with a Gainesville gun shop not far from interstate 75 and Newberry road, Pickett's was a breath of fresh air in regards to professionalism, courtesy and product knowledge! read more

I went in to pick up a gun I purchased form last week. The man that sold me the gun told me I could come on Monday to pick up the gun. When I go in on Monday he tells me to come back after 5, this gun shop is an hour drive round trip for me, so I come back after five. Then I was met by some Tall old guy telling me that I have to come back Wednesday. I tried to explain to the fellow that the other man told me I could come today and the only thing this dude kept saying is that he can count, not that I ever questioned his ability, I was simply Trying to ask why I was told to come today and when I was in there earlier that day why didn't they tell me then to come back later in the week. The man at the counter continued to tell me he could count at this point I was questioning whether he could in fact count because he made it a point to keep telling me. That all said the experience was rather unprofessional and I do not recommend this place. Customer do not do business to be treated poorly by the staff. read more

My son and i first visited Pickett"s, on about his 9th birthday. We bought his first .22 rifle there and his first shotgun when he was 12. The staff treated him as if he were the most important customer they had had that day.He is 18 now and is still isiting regularly.I have always found them very knowlegable and Friendly. They are Kid friendly too! The owners are great patriots and strong defenders of the 2nd amendment! Give your kids a big treat, and go visit Pickett't, they will love it and so will you! read more

I gave Picketts of Newberry, FL five stars just to make sure it gets read. If I could give Picketts of Newberry negative stars I would. I do not know about their Micanopy shop but am limiting my review to their Newberry store which has insanely overpriced merchandise that can be purchased elsewhere far cheaper. The staff while not totally ignorant is not so knowledgeable as to make it worth the trip. I've seen them prey (read lie to) people who know very little about firearms. That alone tells me what they are all about. Gunsmithing services are available....if you don't think that leaving your firearm there with them for anywhere from 6 months to a year is ok, and being verbally abused if you dare ask them why its taking so long. Customer service/Attitude toward the customer......this is where they really fall on their face. Rude, arrogant and condescending. If gasoline was $17 per gal. I would gladly drive 2500 mi. across country to avoid doing business with Picketts of Newberry. I spend several thousand dollars per year on guns, gun gear, and hunting equipment.....not here....NO WAY!!!! read more

If I could give them a zero I would! I want to start out by saying that I have purchased several guns, ammunition, and various other things including a gun safe. After my experience I have nothing good to say, and the only reason I am taking my time to write this is to safe you the time and disappointment I experienced. My experience started when I went in to buy a gun safe. I only choose Pickett's because of my step father's praise of their store. I have to say it was a complete and utter disappointment. I arranged for them to deliver my gun safe and when Jack "the major" and his son started unloading the safe I quickly pointed out that this was not the safe I purchased. Jack was even quicker to point out that it was the safe. I stand 5'6" and the safe dwarfed me. I restated that this was not the safe I purchased and it wasn't even new. Jack then informed me that my step father made a deal to get this used safe for the same price, and that it was much better than the one I purchased. After bringing the monstrosity into my house they proceeded to crash into the walls and door frames just to get it into the room. After they left I could help but to get angry. I had a huge hunk of steel that was a major eye soar. I swear it jumped out and said look at me every time I walked in to the room it was so big! After a few minutes my wife received a called and gave me the news that Jack and his son had in fact delivered the wrong safe. That meant they had to come back and remove the safe that they literally squeezed in after banging up my house. Yes, I was getting pissed. Guess what, they offered me $100 off. Wow, that didn't even cover the cost of repairing the damage. As you can imagine I really wanted to tell them where to go, but I didn't I just wanted them out of the house. So in my opinion Jack lied to me about my step father making a deal to cover up for his mistake of delivering the wrong safe and at bare minimum it showed how stupid he is about not knowing what he was doing. Clearly they delivered the correct gun safe the second time. Why the hell didn't he check his inventory when I questioned it the first time? After this I swore off Pickett's for years. I guess I am a sucker for crappy customer service and poor selection, because I did go back to purchase several guns, after all they are one of two gun stores in the area. When I purchased a shotgun from them and ordered a camo stock Carl Pickett one of the other brothers tried to sell me a mismatched stock. Again I must be dealing with business owners who are use to customers who deal with second hand merchandise, because there is no way in hell I am paying several hundred dollars for a mismatched set. What a dumbass! I patiently waited for it to show up which it finally did. My next experience was trying to get a replacement front site for a pistol, and after standing around waiting for help I finally left. Yes they did know I was there and what I was there for, since I had spoken to them before about the gun. I figure I can order it online and replace it myself faster than I can wait in line at Pickett's. My final straw that made me write this review was when I went in today 10/31/11 and asked for a specific scope base and the young girl behind the counter brought them out to me, and I asked if she was sure these were the correct bases. Her reply was yes they were. I read the front of the package to her and she again replied that they were the correct bases. Upon paying for them I was informed that since I was using a credit/debit card there would be a one dollar fee. Are you freaking kidding me! You sorry sons of witches! Now I own a business and fully understand passing on the fees, but credit card fees are no more than 32 cents per transactions. Debit cards are 28 cents. If they are paying more then they need to get some financial help with fees. To top it off they are the wrong bases. I could go into other transactions and mistakes they made on my purchases, but I am not here to help them learn to run their business better, but they could hire people who at least understand the difference in adding and subtracting. That would help them keep money from walking out the door. At least I am honest and pointed out their error in my favor that would have cost them $550 dollars. All in all, I would have gone to Harry Beckwith's, but since the one man who knew his business sold it to Pickett's and then passed away. This leaves no choices in gun stores in the area. Please make the drive to Ocala, Jacksonville, or even Orlando to get help instead of Pickett's they don't know customer service let alone weaponry. Good Servest and friendly people but I have to give it a 2 star for one problem I used cash to buy a single shot shotgun for 120$ I give then six 20 dollar bills after I talking to one of the gun smiths they said I only give them five 20 and one 10 so I gave then them the extra and left I was not happy at all I will not sue over 30$ but I am likely not to go back there read more
