I've started going to Pick 'n Save on Maple Grove Road because they carry some items that I can't find elsewhere. If you are like me you continually look for best prices, selection and quality. This store has collard greens and FAGE 5% plus some great prices on quality produce. I stopped here for these items and also found a few other bargains. Overall, this is a pretty good Pick 'n Save location. It's right on McKee and on the way to get back onto the beltline, or at least, I always seem to pass it when I'm heading back to the beltline. For the most part, I've always been able to get everything off my grocery list. The produce at this location is generally pretty fresh. I feel like the center aisle selection is lacking in variety. I mean, I'm always able to get what I need to get. For example, I was looking for whole wheat pasta today, but they only had the Simple Truth brand. I'm generally not picky; I usually just like to see what all the options are. read more

I've been shopping here for about 3 years. This location has really gone downhill in 2021. The Deli is understaffed, they can't seem to find enough help and the last kid I saw working behind the counter wasn't wearing a mask (we have a county-wide mask mandate in effect right now). I've gone past the Deli a couple times recently and it smelled like rotten meat. They recently started stocking only small quantities of chicken and beef broth in a can, and began placing it on the very bottom shelf while the easily reachable shelving is all taken up by very large boxes of broth, which you usually don't need as much of. So, normal sizes of chicken broth are usually out-of-stock no matter what time of day I go shopping. I happened to be walking down that aisle last week and an old lady asked me to get her a can. I literally had to lay down on my belly to reach the cans. What the heck?! Worst of all, they regularly, knowingly sell expired foods. Just now I unboxed some pot pies I bought on November 4 and discovered the expiration date was September 22. I suspect much of the issues with lower quality produce and raised prices are due to ongoing global supply chain problems, but selling expired food (their common tactic is to put them on sale to move them quick) and forcing people to buy the bulk-sized products so they can make more money is unacceptable. read more

I enjoy this neighborhood grocery store. I find their everyday prices very reasonable with excellent weekly sale prices. Wednesdays and Saturday they'll double up to five coupons ($1.00 Max) with a minimum purchase. I really love the weekly Free Friday Online coupon! Plus there are many other coupons on their website. I admire that the store marks down foods about to expire. Look for the "Last Chance" stickers on fish, packaged veggies, meats....brilliant. Keep it up Pick and Save! read more

This is my favorite Copps/Pick-N-Save location! I used to stop here in between my Woodman's shopping but ever since Kroger took over the prices are as good as Woodman's. I don't get overwhelmed by the size of the store or the amount of people there. The aisle are wide enough for two carts to get through. The produce is always good and the staff is always friendly. This Pick'n Save (6655 McKee Road, Madison, WI) is a nice grocery store. The store is very clean and organized. The shelves are always stocked and item are always available. They also have a liquor area and a floral shop, both with an excellent selection and variety. Excellent location just off hughway PD/McKee Road. Easy to get to. Prices are very reasonable. The bathrooms are very clean and maintained. Above all, the employees are exceptional. They are helpful, friendly, and courteous. It is never too busy and the checkouts are always well staffed. Have 9 self check out stations which is great and they are easy to use. I highly recommend this store. read more

This Copps has seen better days, and both the store and employee morale show it. I shopped here for a few years, after moving from the East side, and had always found them adequate as a grocery store. Their produce was always fresher than that at Woodmans, but their liquor department smaller and more expensive. I appreciated that they had a dedicated gluten-free section I could shop without worry, and the meat department was always quality. Then Target opened up down the road with its own grocery. Instead of rising to the challenge, Copps started REMOVING staple items from its shelves (who creates a huge ethnic foods section, then refused to stock tahini or sesame oil?) They guaranteed their rotisserie chickens to be available from 4-7 every night, yet when I'd go to pick one up just before six, they were often out. Sure, I could go beg customer service for a rain check/free chicken, but that still means there's have to be one here to pick up in the first place. Then HyVee opened. Having lived in Iowa, I'm familiar with HyVee - they're a mid-to-upper scale grocery who knows how to market their everyday products like they're high-end jewelry. And it works. They matched or slightly underpriced their competition for the first few months. HyVee even opened an entire Health Market section of gluten-free goods, and runs a 15% discount on them every week to entice customers. What'd Copps do? RAISED the prices of their gluten-free/allergen-friendly goods, sometimes by as much as 50%! As someone on a limited budget, I simply couldn't afford to keep shopping there. I've been back once or twice since then, and, similarly to how their Whitney Way location went after a HyVee moved in across the street there, the stores just exude sadness and desperation, like they've given up, and I'm starting to wonder if they have.. read more

This is a two-part review: So I've been shopping here since this was a Piggly Wiggly then a Copp's and now a Pick n' Save. I've gotta say overall the place is about the same with a few minor adjustments, mostly to placement which frustrates me (ala everything just takes longer to find). Fried Chicken - 4 stars! My main reason for this review is the fried chicken. So Madison does not understand the Southern need for a bone-in fried chicken and as long as I have lived in Madison, I have searched for a decent place. Now, while I realize there are fried chicken variations, I'm talking about bone-in, eat-the-skin, salty, my grandmother coulda made it, breast, thigh, drum leg, AND the wing.... fried chicken! After 15 years, I have concluded, Pick n'Save (formerly Copp's), has the best day-in, day-out fried chicken in Madison. The skin is medium salty, chewy, a tad garlicky, just a yummy layer of seasoning, that is not crunchy but truly finger-licking good (like an original version). And I know when the fresh batches come out (4 and 6 pm) so everytime it's hot, steaming and still juicy, even the breast meat. A true test is the "next day" test - it passes with a small run in a toaster oven. The ownership change did lose a little seasoning kick, but it's still pretty close. Consistency is also big here. The rotisserie chicken is good, but not as great as the fried (3.5/5 stars). The store - 3.5 stars Many items remain the same (which are great!): the salad bar (4/5), deli (5/5), fresh (4/5), and fried areas (5/5). The bakery area remains top-notch (5/5). They believe in sugar and not adding milk to every pie (still moist though) so I can eat naughty little everythings all day long here! Aside from Dunkin Donuts, these donuts are fabulous! The deli has 3-4 different potato salads and you can sample them all until you find your favorite! New additions are Kroger deli items, a pick-and-grab fried section (convenient), a fancy packaged meat (prosciutto, genoa salami, etc) and cheese area, and a sushi bar (but I've never seen it made). Changes: Frist, the liquor selection changed fractionally, but mostly minimized local beers and added more nationally recognized ones then upped the prices on mix-and-match: overall, it's still a good selection but now has nothing over competitors (3/5). Confusingly, they kept an organic section (3/5), but spaced out the gluten-free, dairy-free, and other specialty items to random areas elsewhere, which is inconvenient. Thirdly, they moved their large junk aisle (4/5) to the front of the store, which is just tacky. Fourthly, the seasonal aisle (4/5) seems to be taking up prime real estate in the middle of the store (instead of the side), but it has a nice selection. However, I get pickles and sauces WAY more than seasonal junk. Lastly, they finally added BP fuel points to their membership (4/5), but there aren't many BP near me so I'll say Hyvee is better. Overall, this is a convenient store, clean, nice employees, a bank inside, fresh and good fruit, a flower area, and a GREAT deli, bakery, salad bar, fresh and fried section with two entrances and many self-checkout machines (that usually work). So grateful to have a grocery store with departments that care about their products and service. Best donuts on the Westside, hands down!!! These donuts rock! I also like their deep fryer. I sometimes pick up regular fried wings and drummies, make my own sauce, and shake them in the sauce...perfect go to Gameday snack! Produce is a bit pricey and not too varied. I don't have a problem with the food selection, but what I do have a problem with is the management. The best way I can describe it is a bunch of chickens with their heads cut off. I would not go back to this Pick 'n Save on McKee Road. No Clorox wipes to wipe down cart, no one keeping track of how many people were allowed in store at a time. No arrows on floor for traffic flow or staying 6 feet away at check out! ALL the self check stations were open! Certainly not 6 feet apart from each other!! People were very close to one another, while checking out their groc. read more

I really like this Copps/Pick n Save location. It is very close to my house and therefore super convenient. It is never too busy and the checkouts are always well staffed. They have a lovely floral department and I really enjoy shopping their bakery. The store is very well lit and always clean and easy to shop. Poorly stocked and understaffed lately. This used to be our favorite grocery store - conveniently located, well-priced, and generally had everything on our list. However, in the last few months, their produce selection has gotten really bad. Many fruits and veggies are droopy, moldy, brown, or not in stock. I've tried going on different days to see if I'm just hitting it at a bad day for stocking, but it seems to be a regular thing. And there are never enough cashiers at check-out during peak times. read more

This copps it is very convenient for me since I work close by; However, I don't do my grocery shopping here, these 5 stars are for their wonderful muffins, if someone would have told me I would find better quality muffins here than in a bakery place I would have never believe it, but I did the test by myself and believe me, I have done it many times any day of the week and they are always wonderful! They are moist, great texture and with the right amount of sugar, my favorites are the cranberry walnuts, mmmmm...the tangy flavor of the fresh fruit it's so good! You have to try them :) the chocolate chip and the banana walnuts are good too. read more

Not high-end like Metcalfe's or service-focused like Hy-Vee and doesn't have the overwhelming selection of Woodman's, but Copps fills the niche of a clean, modern and reasonably priced neighborhood market. The bakery offers some splendid desserts -- try the Tuxedo Truffle, Death By Chocolate or strawberry cream cake pieces. They're big enough to share for $3 (if you're not sharing with my wife, that is). The meats and produce are of good quality and this location pays tribute to its Stevens Point roots by selling Portesi frozen pizzas -- awesome! The Roundy's store brands are usually adequate and plentiful --- I'm especially impressed by their coffee K-Cups. They also have a decent if not huge selection of whole/natural foods. The lines are never too long when I'm there and the parking is easy, although it can be hard to see the place from McKee Road as the entrance is actually on Maple Grove. read more

I generally like this location, but today the bagger at my check-out line was obviously extremely sick. He was blowing his nose right at the bagging station, a LOT, and snuffling and rubbing his nose on his arm. This guy NEEDED to go home. I didn't see him sanitize his hands before he started bagging my stuff, so I asked the checker if she could bag my stuff instead (I had lettuce and other produce that wasn't going to get cooked). She did, but it ended up feeling like I was being a diva. I wasn't. I'm paying for food, not the flu. For the love of god, Pick n Save, send people home when they're sick! I'll be switching to Metcalfe's from now on. read more
