I really wish the front of 'Pick A Card' didn't say est. 1983 over the door. Because the rest of it looks really Dickensian. The slanting because it is on a hill, the maroon paint. The random 'Roly's' in front of the main shop name. Ah, all the mysteries of this crazy, dark, little, ramshackle shop. There has been no chance of updating to the 21st century, anyway.
But it isn't really that old it just looks like it is. A disappointment for some. They have a fair old amount of stuff out on the street. Cards obviously (please do pick one) and they have also branched out into gift ideas like candles and calendars. Worth having a look if you are short on cash but long on time just for the delight of the lack of neatly divided sections and Clintons' Me to You bears/ mugs/ candlesticks or whatever it is they do.
It looks a bit out of touch but aren't the best things always the ones that don't appear so until you dig a bit? read more
